Welcome to Alola Against the World, an egg and card-based challenge.

What is this challenge?
Revolves around using Pokemon hatched from eggs. Draws cards with random effects, based on what spectators want. Will be playing in Pokemon Moon.

Moon again?
Set up everything in Generation 7. Cannot deliver the same breadth of Pokemon, hidden abilities, and power elsewhere without a significant amount of effort.

What is this theme?
Countries. Created a list of the top 50 most populated countries. Names Pokemon in a fixed order. (Prevents stereotyping and unintended implications that way. Imagine naming Stunky, for instance. Benefits smaller countries too. Knows very little about most countries.)

Previous run: Moonside Up.

Rule Changes
  • Reduced the egg supply from 75 to 50. Limited the initial 50 to 8 of any given type.
  • Restricted Leftovers to 1. Explictly banned Revives and X items in-battle.
  • Permitted Lucky Eggs at all times.
  • Changed Pokemon Refresh to two free hearts for everyone, regardless of progression.
  • Allows level 1 for all Poke Pelago islands except Evelup. Upgrades them through cards.
  • Training Clause: Added immunity to Wonder Card effects while training new Pokemon.
  • No Pacifism clause: Removed the ability to purchase a Technical Machine.
  • Two new Pokemon-specific rules: 1. Allows resets for unwanted Sketch results. 2. No Shedinja.
Pokemon Changes
  • Expanded the list of possible eggs to all breedable Pokemon. Upstaged Sword and Shield, basically. (Newcomers for those curious: Nincada, Venonat, Farfetch'd, Bellsprout, Girafarig, Doduo, Poochyena, Carnivine, Bidoof, Kricketot, Stunky, Skitty, Glameow, Pansage, Gulpin, Chatot, Solrock, Lunatone, Cacnea, Castform, Phione, Numel, Tympole, Pidove, Seedot, Smeargle, Torkoal, Spinarak, and Tauros.)
  • More Hidden Abilities. Did not record all of them. Remembers things like Toxic Boost Zangoose, Reckless Starly, Weak Armor Kabuto, Water Veil Buizel, and Mold Breaker Throh. Never claimed for them to be better. Declined to hunt for some bad and/or boring Hidden Abilities, such as Klutz Audino and Heavy Metal Bronzor.
  • A few ball changes here and there. Example: Quick Ball to Ultra Ball for Elekid.
Card Changes
  • Created an order of drawing: Retire -> Other -> Negative -> Positive -> Random.
  • Renamed all cards. Kept many effects, however. Will not list all new cards. Please look at the list of cards instead.
  • Removed both art cards and the poll in Retire.
  • Added cards that affect the Wonder Deck to Other.
Sent 50 eggs over to a new file. Cannot use any other Pokemon. Permits catching wild Pokemon for Poke Pelago numbers or experience.

Draws one Wonder Card at the start of every whole-numbered update. Supersedes the rules written here, unless specifically stated. Draws more based on the audience.

Placed any "Retired" Pokemon into a separate box. Occurs as a result from Wonder Cards. Prevents them from being used henceforth. Always replaces a Retired Pokemon with a new egg.

Team Size: Begins with three Pokemon. Increases to four after defeating Hala, five after clearing Totem Salazzle, and six after defeating Olivia.

Victory Condition: Become Champion of Alola.
Naming Theme: Countries.
Item Limit: Three per battle. Does not count Adrenaline Orbs or Pokeballs against this number.
Item Restrictions: One Leftovers maximum. No Revives or X items in-battle.
Shop Restrictions: Cannot purchase Technical Machines.
Experience Share: Yes.
Pokemon Refresh: Up to two hearts for all Pokemon.
Poke Pelago: Level 1 for all islands except Evelup.
Z-Moves: No.
Battle Style: Set.
Perma-death: No.
Trade Evolutions: Yes, provided all the necessary items or Pokemon. May use Retired Pokemon for cases like Shelmet and Karrablast.

Level Limit: Present. Must deposit any Pokemon over the limit. May still be used in the event of going above the limit during the trial itself.
  • Totem Raticate: 12
  • Hala: 15
  • Totem Wishiwashi: 20
  • Totem Salazzle: 22
  • Totem Lurantis: 24
  • Olivia: 27
  • Totem Vikavolt: 29
  • Totem Mimikyu: 33
  • Nanu: 39
  • Hapu: 48
  • Lusamine Round 2: 50
  • Elite Four/Champion: 55
Sketch Clause: Allows resets for unwanted Sketch results.
Not Breaking the Game Clause: Cannot use Shedinja.
Lucky Egg Clause: Transferred Lucky Eggs over for use at any time.
Training Clause: Ignore all Wonder card effects while training new team members. Persists until the previous update's level limit. Allows any Retired Pokemon to assist in leveling new team members, if desired.
Shiny Clause: May catch any shiny Pokemon. Grants immunity to Wonder Trade effects to all shiny Pokemon.
White Flag Clause: May choose to retire the current team in the event of wiping three times to a given obstacle. Clear all Wonder Card effects. Get a new team. Draw one Wonder Card, plus half of the number drawn during this update (rounded down). (Exists to circumvent unwinnable scenarios. Hopes to not use it.)
No Pacifism Clause: Permits using a Technical Machine (if blocked) once on a Pokemon in the event of all Pokemon having no attacking moves. May retire the entire team in the event that TMs do not fix this.
Made a spreadsheet of all breedable Pokemon. Picked 50 random Pokemon without repeats. Fixed the results such that only 8 Pokemon of a given type will be present. Stops types like Normal and Water from dominating completely.

Geared many of these Pokemon with egg moves, good Individual Values, Hidden Abilities, and decent natures. Bred all of them with a Ditto with four perfect Individual Values. (Used the Matsuda Method as much as possible. Hopes for a shiny.) Gave the parents an Everstone and/or a Destiny Knot at a 30% chance each. Note: Always gave an Everstone to Kanto variants, due to breeding mechanics.

Split Wonder Cards into five categories: Negative, Retire, Positive, Other, and Legendary. Presumes the first four to be self-explanatory. Labeled cards with big effects as "Legendary". Removes a Legendary card from the deck upon drawing AND applying them.

Determines the Wonder Card through a random number generator. Picks between 1 and 106 for full random cards. Restricts it to 1-40 for a Negative card, 41-60 for Retire, 61-80 for Positive, and 81-100 for Other. Obtains Legendary cards solely through full random cards.

Draws a new card if the current card is not possible to fulfill. Redraws in the event of getting a card twice in the same update AND not having a stacking effect. (Example: Grabs a new card for a second "Censorship", but not for "National Holiday".)

Order of drawing: Retire -> Other -> Negative -> Positive -> Random.

Listed all possible cards below.

Negative
(1-5) Tourism: Give two random Pokemon the Strange Souvenir item to hold until the end of the next trial.
(6-7) National Holiday: Deposit a random Pokemon until the end of the next trial. Do not grab an egg to replace it. Do not apply any additional Wonder Card effects to this Pokemon while deposited.
(8-11) Nationalism: Delete all of a random Pokemon's moves that are not of its type(s). Select a move at random to remain, in the event of knowing no moves of its type(s).
(12-13) Censorship: Cannot use Technical Machines until the end of the next trial.
(14-15) The Pain of Progress: Learn all new moves from level ups until the end of the next trial. In the event of forgeting, delete a move.
(16-17) Embargo: Cannot use Bag items in-battle until the end of the next trial.
(18-19) Language Barrier: Check your team's official languages. Cannot use every Pokemon's fourth move during battle until the next update if half of your team (rounded up) does not share a language. No effect otherwise. (Do not draw a new card, if so.) Permits reordering moves. Bars the third move (and possibly second) if the fourth move is already off limits.
(20-22) Civil Unrest: Choose two random Pokemon. Must begin the next trial with a status condition of your choice.
(23-24) Volcanic Soot: Cannot give berries (in-combat or to hold) to all Pokemon with volcanoes in their countries until the start of the next update. Ignore the item limit and "Embargo" for Awakenings and Full Heals on these Pokemon. Must cure either Sleep and/or Confusion with the Full Heal.
(25-27) World Leadership: Choose a random Pokemon. Put them in the front. Cannot change its position until the end of the next trial.
(28-31) Taxes: Spend 50% of your current money total on Pokeballs.
(32-34) Reduced Military Funding: Lower this trial's level limit by 1. Ignore this card and redraw if this puts any Pokemon above the level limit.
(35-36) Tsunami: Draw a second Negative card whenever you draw (and apply) a Negative card (not including this card). Remains in effect until the completion of two trials from now. Does not stack. Add points to Negative equal to the number of non-landlocked Pokemon if no extra Negative cards are drawn.
(37-38) Wasteful Spending: Toss a Pokeball or Adrenaline Orb on the first turn of the upcoming trial. (Ignore "Logistics Error" for this turn, if necessary.)
(39-40) Political Marriage: Pair up Pokemon randomly. Cannot switch to any other Pokemon besides their partner unless both faint). Apply any Wonder Card (except Legendaries) that affects a single Pokemon to its partner too. Persists until the end of the update.

Retire
(41-43) Bankruptcy: Retire a random Pokemon.
(44-45) Health Epidemic: Retire the Pokemon with the lowest Hitpoints.
(46-47) Unsustainable Ambition: Calculate (Population / Highest Offensive Stat) for each Pokemon. Retire the Pokemon with the lowest value.
(48-49) Overbearing Overhead: Calculate (Population / Highest Defensive Stat) for each Pokemon. Retire the Pokemon with the lowest value.
(50-51) The Spoken Majority: Tally the number of countries for each official language. Retire a random Pokemon without the most common official language.
(52-53) Volcanic Eruption: Retire a random Pokemon with at least one volcano in its country.
(54-55) Alolaphobia: Retire all Pokemon from Alola. (Affects Rowlet through Kommo-O AND regional variants like Alolan Rattata.) Do not redraw if this affects no one.
(56-57) Minority Majority: Retire the Pokemon whose country has the highest population.
(58-59) New versus Old: Choose (Europe, Asia, and Africa) or (North and South America). Retire all Pokemon whose countries are on those continents. (May be all or none.)
(60) Foreign Aid: Wonder Trade a random Pokemon. Continue until obtaining one at the same level or lower as the original.

Positive
(61-62) Nuclearization: Enables Z-moves until the end of the next trial.
(63-64) Disaster Relief Money: Add or subtract 10 from a single card number of your choice. Cannot prevent or cause a Legendary card. Remains effective until at the conclusion of two trials from now.
(65-67) Science Funding: Buy any one TM from a shop.
(68-69) Luxury Resources: Increase a random Pokemon's maximum hearts in Pokemon Refresh by 1.
(70-71) Defensive Pact: Change the battle style to Switch until the end of the next trial.
(72-73) Imported Goods: Transfer a random item from the middle Battle Tree vendor (held items) from Ultra Sun. (Raise the Leftovers limit by one, in the event of receiving that.) May select a specific evolution item from the left vendor instead.
(74-75) Education Funding: Transfer a random Pokemon to Ultra Sun. May learn one move of your choice from a tutor on the current island or earlier.
(76-77 when possible) Olympic Training: Increase Isle Evelup's level by 1. Send a random Pokemon there for 25 sessions of Effort Value training at the end of the update.
(78-79 when possible) Infrastructure Program: Increase the level of Isle Abeens and another random island by 1.
(76-80) Birth of a Nation: Add two Pokemon eggs of your choice that are not on the list to the supply. Use the Everstone and Destiny Knot.

Other
(81-82) Local Delicacy: Purchase and eat a Malasada from the Malasada shop.
(83-84) No Selfie Sticks: Photograph two different Pokemon.
(85-87) Name Change: Rename a random Pokemon.
(87 when possible) Political Games: Enter a Normal Rank Battle Royal. Add one Positive point for every Pokemon you faint. Add one Negative point for every Pokemon of yours that faints. Add one Positive point for taking first place. Add one Retire point for taking last place.
(88-89) Alolan Hawaiian Shirts: Buy and wear at least two new articles of clothing.
(90-91) Blend in with the Locals: Get a random hair color and style.
(92-93) Government Secrets: Go to Lillie's loft. Attempt to read their diary.
(94-95) The Situation Room: Draw three random Wonder Cards. Choose two to apply. Must pick all Legendary cards (even in the event of drawing three Legendary cards).
(96-97) Raise the Debt Ceiling: Delay any remaining Wonder Cards plus one full random until the start of the next update. Ignore this and redraw if that will not exist.
(98-99) Repeating Itself: Perform the previous Wonder Card again. Add one point to Positive, Negative, Retire, and Other if not applicable. Does not work with Legendary cards.
(100) Never Again: Remove this card and the previous ten (applied) Wonder Cards from the deck permanently.

Legendary
(101) Living History: Use any number of Retired Pokemon until the end of the next trial. Do not apply this card if there are no Retired Pokemon.
(102) Landlocke: Retire all Pokemon whose countries are not landlocked.
(103) Diplomatic Negotiations: Add or subtract up to 10 from the next three Wonder Card numbers. Cannot cause or affect a Legendary card. (Do not count Legendary cards as one of the three cards, either.) May raise or lower a single number in the card effect by 1 also. Cannot become zero, however. (Example: Science Funding: Buy any one two TMs from a shop.)
(104) Election Day: Put up a poll. Give spectators two votes. Keep the two Pokemon with the most votes. Retire the rest.
(105) Global Uncertainty: Draw three additional random cards. Add one point to Negative, Retire, Positive, and Other. Apply all effects for an additional update. Ignore any other Legendary cards as a result of this and redraw.
(106) The Red Line: Reduce all of your Pokemon to red health levels just before the next trial. Unequip any Leftovers, Black Sludges, Shell Bells, and hitpoint restoring berries. Cannot use any hitpoint restoring items in-battle until the end of the trial. (Permits status recovery items and healing moves like Recover.)
Audience Participation
Gives all of you some sway over this challenge. Draws additional cards based on your whims. Post OR use a reaction to indicate what you want. Listed what each reaction corresponds to below.

:surprisedazurill:: 1 random Wonder Card
:thonkazurill:: 1 Negative Point
:sadazurill:: 1 Retire Point
❤: 1 Positive Point
:hmmazurill:: 1 Other Point

Draws a random Negative card for every 2 Negative Points. Selects a random Retire, Positive, or Other card for every 3 points in their respective categories. Carries over between updates.

Counts any post or reaction on the most recent whole-numbered update (including Update 0). (May post tiny updates to notify everyone about a poll or delay. Labels those as 2.5 or something similar.)

Note: Checks for posts/reactions prior to playing AND before the trial. Saves any Wonder Cards from new posts/reactions between the trial and posting the update for the start of the next update.

Concludes all of the challenge particulars. Apologies for the flood of information. Specifies as much as possible in advance. Cuts down on subjective interpretations.
Would have made a "Change the language" Wonder Card, if it were possible. Sticks to English full-time, sadly.

Random number: 6. Chose the female trainer, second from the left.

Trainer name: Petchenik. Named them after Barbara Petchenik. Contributed to several works about cartography, including the Robinson Projection (see above map).

"Ooh, I'll bet you have a stylin' hat to match mine." Sighs. Re-engage chicken hat. Technically obtained it in Kanto. Imagines it to be from Celadon, given the department store and Erika.

Random number: 2. Litten again. No complaints here. Seemed good for catching Route 1 Pokemon last time. Named them Robinson, because why not? Deserves a name.

...Oh. Input Robinson's :litten: stats into an IV checker. 0-9 for Hitpoints and Attack. 0-19 for everything else. Ouch. Will not contribute beyond this starting area, though.

Spent 18000 Pokedollars on 90 Pokeballs (plus 9 Premier). Caught 67 Pokemon in 83 Pokeballs. (Nabbed a few extra for Poke Pelago. Becomes more irritating with SOS later.)

Thoughts on the Pokemon list:
  • Sees several weak Pokemon: Finneon, Slugma, Chatot, Burmy, Spinda, Barboach, and Cherubi, to name a few. Approves. Wants to use different Pokemon. Tricked out several of them too.
  • Avoided most faces from last run. Upgraded Elekid and Mankey since then too. Could have their Hidden Abilities.
  • Zero starters. Amazing.
  • Maxed out Normal, Water, and Rock. Expected the first two, as the most common types (58 and 60 respectively). Did not see Rock coming (sixth most common at 30).
  • Shut out Steel completely. Not a huge surprise at third rarest (16 total).
  • Names Passimian as the overall best. Begins with good stats as is. Benefitted from both the Everstone and Destiny Knot. May have its Hidden Ability (Defiant). Gave it Iron Head. Ought to fare well at any stage in the challenge.
On to the exciting part: hatching. Scrambled all the eggs. Random egg numbers: 7, 6, and 3. Such low numbers.

Uzbekistan the Cranidos :cranidos::pokeball:
Nature: Modest (Ew.)
Ability: Mold Breaker
Moves: Hammer Arm, Crunch, Curse, and Iron Head.

...Again? Okay. Same glorious moveset as before. Appreciates Hammer Arm for Smeargle and Alolan Raticate. Sees an Ultra Ball for Egg #3. Please not Elekid?

Sudan the Smoochum :smoochum::pokeball:
Nature: Bashful
Ability: Oblivious
Moves: Wish, Fake Out, Nasty Plot, and Ice Punch.

The lone psychic in the egg supply. Hoped to see them later on. Sports a base 15 defense versus primarily physical attackers. Remembers the troubles for Ghost early on too. Applies to Psychics just as much. Picks up a special move (Powder Snow) before the trial, at least. 0/2 on Hidden Abilities, by the way.

Mexico the Barboach :barboach::ultraball:
Nature: Brave
Ability: Anticipation
Moves: Spark, Dragon Dance, Muddy Water, and Earth Power.

Grins. Hello. Savor those moves for a while. Stands atop the list of favorite starting movesets, alongside Tropius (not in the supply) and Dunsparce. Takes you by surprise. Please do not get tagged by a Retire card like Statue :buneary:.

Play time: 4:01. 30 minutes better than last time.
:surprisedazurill: Wonder Card: 0/1
:thonkazurill: Negative Points: 0/2
❤ Positive Points: 0/3
:sadazurill: Retire Points: 0/3
:hmmazurill: Other Points: 0/3

Considering how creative your last one of these challenges was, this definitely doesn't disappoint! I'll be keeping up with this one again, so best of luck! Honestly I'm quite happy to see a Barboach of all things, considering the abundance of water/ground types.

Begins with two full random cards, from one :surprisedazurill: and the base one.

Random number: 48.
(48-49) Overbearing Overhead: Calculate (Population / Highest Defensive Stat) for each Pokemon. Retire the Pokemon with the lowest value.
Uzbekistan :cranidos: : 32981716 population / 6 defense = 5,496,953
Sudan :smoochum: : 42813238 population / 6 special defense = 7,135,540
Mexico :barboach: : 127575529 population / 6 defense = 21,262,588

Amounted to shoving out the lowest population. Farewell, Uzbekistan :cranidos:. Lost the powerful Fighting move immediately again. Oh well. Played with you last time.

Replaces them with a new egg. Random egg number: 5. Low again, huh?

Saudi Arabia the Togepi :togepi::pokeball:
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Serene Grace
Moves: Charm, Peck, Nasty Plot, and Extrasensory.

Fit the name by removing the space. Dropped one unfortunate nature for another. Cannot use Extrasensory against Alolan Raticate. Learns very few attacking moves leveling up. Might use Metronome or Echoed Voice.

Random number: 87.
(85-87) Name Change: Rename a random Pokemon.
Not possible until Update 3. Redraw.

Random number: 100.
(100) Never Again: Remove this card and the previous ten (applied) Wonder Cards from the deck permanently.

Cannot technically do that. Says ten cards, not "up to ten". Would have been boring to remove one card (and itself). Should have made that a "when possible" card for clarity. Redraw.

Random number: 56.
(56-57) Minority Majority: Retire the Pokemon whose country has the highest population.
Sudan :smoochum: : 42,813,238
Mexico :barboach: : 127,575,529
Saudi Arabia :togepi: : 34,268,528

Aw. Come on. Goodbye, Mexico :barboach:. Never had a chance either.

Random egg number: 38. Double digits finally.

Ethiopia the Tauros :tauros::pokeball:
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Anger Point
Moves: Tackle

A solid Pokemon. No egg moves for Tauros, typical of male-only Pokemon. Received the worse ability, but oh well. Zero Everstones and one Destiny Knot in five eggs, also. Rough.

On to the adventure. Accepted the Experience Share. Promptly left the school to beat up on weaklings. Found a level 3 Spinarak first.

Round 1: :tauros: Tackle (15%) / :spinarak: Constrict (11/12, -1 speed)
Round 2: :spinarak: Poison Sting (8/12) / :tauros: Tackle (15%)
Round 3: :spinarak: String Shot / :tauros: Tackle (15%)
Round 4: :spinarak: Poison Sting (5/12) / :tauros: Tackle (15%)
Round 5: :spinarak: Poison Sting (2/12) / :tauros: Tackle (15%)
Round 6: :tauros: Switch :smoochum: / :spinarak: Poison Sting (8/11)
Round 7: :smoochum: Fake Out (the rest)

First battle victory. Thank you for no poison. Gained two levels on everyone.

Remembered to raise Saudi Arabia's :togepi: happiness during the fight. Stinks without the Soothe Bell and Tauros or Stoutland. Used the opportunity to inspect everything in the house.
  • Notices a globe in Petchenik's room. How fitting.
  • Placed Meowth's favorite berries on the table. Looks to be Chople (for supereffective Fighting moves) and either Pinap or Jaboca. Presumes Pinap. Questions it due to the red or orange stem instead of green.
Ran around for an additional ten minutes. "You look a bit tired but happy." Certainly hopes so. Aaaand yes. Evolved :togepi: Saudi Arabia :togetic:. Learned Metronome over Peck for fun.

Lost Ethiopia :tauros: to a Bonsly's :bonsly: Flail. Shied away from the others in case of a Rock move. Not a Nuzlocke, though.

Used Metronome against a Metapod :metapod: for fun. Thunder Shock, Dream Eater, Sandstorm, Secret Power (with accuracy drop), and Magical Leaf. Finished it off with Ethiopia :tauros: for experience.

Ooh. Water Spout against Grimer :alolangrimer:. Needed that because of Poison on everyone and several Hardens.

"What terrible thing did you do to get called to the office so soon?" United a bunch of countries against Alola. No big deal.

Froze Magnemite :magnemite: with Sudan's :smoochum: Ice Punch. Stayed frozen for several turns too. Defeated it alone, surprisingly.

Activated Ethiopia's :tauros: Anger Point on a critical Bite. One-shot the teacher's Meowth :alolanmeowth: with Tackle.

Took the mandatory Poke Finder pictures. One of the comments: "Look at that lovely sky!" ...Captured zero bits of sky.

Now for the important part: clothes. Chose the Black Casual Shorts, Green V-Neck Tee, and Green Over-the-Knee Socks. Ditched the chicken hat, obviously. Chose Medium and Wavy hair with sideswept bangs. Kept it black.
6882

"Watch me, world! I'm gonna beat even my old gramps someday!" Go ahead. Please weaken the Alolan defense.

Entered the Ilima fight with Sudan :smoochum: at level 10 and the rest at 9. Equipped Ethiopia :tauros: with the Silk Scarf and Saudi Arabia :togetic: with the Quick Claw.

Turn 1: :tauros: Work Up / :yungoos: Tackle (27/33)
Turn 2: :tauros: Horn Attack (85%) / :yungoos: Tackle (21/33)
Turn 3: :yungoos: Potion (heal to 90%) / :tauros: Horn Attack (85%)
Turn 4: :tauros: Horn Attack (the rest)
Turn 5: :tauros: Horn Attack (100%) / :smeargle::faintedazurill:

Definitely less scary than it could have been.

Skipped Hau'oli Cemetery once again. Reached level 10 across the board. Must be mindful of the limit of 12.

Stuck with Ice Punch (75 power, physical) over Powder Snow (40 power, special) on Sudan :smoochum:. Actually hits harder with Ice Punch, despite 15 Attack versus 24 Special Attack. Might have maximum IVs in Attack and something low in Special Attack.

Picked up the Brick Break TM. Learns it on...Saudi Arabia :togetic:. Ought to replace Metronome. Prefers the randomness, more for fun than power. Plus, with 16 Attack? Eh.

Faced Totem Raticate with Saudi Arabia :togetic: at level 12, Sudan :smoochum: at 12, and Ethiopia :tauros: at 11.

(Note: +1 Defense on Totem Raticate :alolanraticate:)
Turn 1: :alolanraticate: Tail Whip / :togetic: Charm
(New enemy partner: Rattata :alolanrattata:)
Turn 2: :togetic: (Quick Claw) Charm (at :alolanrattata:) / :alolanraticate: Tackle (32/36) / :alolanrattata: Tackle (26/36)
Turn 3: :alolanraticate: Tackle (22/36) / :alolanrattata: Tackle (16/36) / :togetic: Charm (at :alolanrattata:)
Turn 4: :togetic: Potion (heal to full) / :alolanraticate: Tackle (32/36) / :alolanrattata: Tackle (29/36)
Turn 5: :alolanraticate: Tackle (25/36) / :alolanrattata: Focus Energy / :togetic: Metronome -> Wish
Turn 6: :togetic: (Quick Claw) Metronome -> Ice Hammer (15% at :alolanraticate:) / :alolanraticate: Tail Whip / :alolanrattata: Tackle (21/36)
(Wish heal to full.)
Turn 7: :alolanrattata: Quick Attack (critical, 18/36) / :alolanraticate: Tackle (12/36) / :togetic: Metronome -> Scratch (5% at :alolanraticate:)
Turn 8: :togetic: Switch :tauros: / :alolanraticate: Tackle (36/39) / :alolanrattata: Tackle (33/39)
Turn 9: :alolanrattata: Quick Attack (critical, 24/39,) / (Anger Point) :tauros: Horn Attack (100% at :alolanrattata::faintedazurill:) / :alolanraticate: Scary Face
(Level 12 for Ethiopia :tauros:.)
Turn 10: :alolanraticate: Bite (22/41) / :tauros: Horn Attack (the rest)

Triggered Anger Point again. So fancy.

Ends this update while watching yet another tutorial. Thank you for reading, as well as the comment and reaction.

(Included the base card above. Only counts reactions on the latest update.)

Draws one full random today. Should be an easy update with Saudi Arabia :togetic:. Depends what the Wonder Deck has to say.

Random number: 32.
(32-34) Reduced Military Funding: Lower this trial's level limit by 1. Ignore this card and redraw if this puts any Pokemon above the level limit.
Drops the level limit to 14. Prevents Sudan :smoochum: from learning Confusion at 15. Would have been a liability, though, given all of the Dark moves on Hala's team.

Rescued Nebby. Fought Hau immediately.
Turn 1: :tauros: Horn Attack (critical, 100%, Static) / :pikachu::faintedazurill:
Turn 2: :tauros: Switch :smoochum: / :rowlet: Leafage (17/32)
Turn 3: :smoochum: Fake Out (5%) / :rowlet: Flinch
Turn 4: :smoochum: Ice Punch (94%) / :rowlet: Leafage (0/32 :smoochum::faintedazurill:)
Turn 5: :tauros: Horn Attack (the rest)

Blergh. Fainted to the damage rolls. Wonders if the Ice Punch was a bad roll also. Somehow outsped Rowlet with Ethiopia :tauros:, despite paralysis. Shrugs.

Also just realized that Primarina :primarina: will be on the Champion again. Dreads that already.

Fought a total of thr--shiny wild Mankey :mankey:. Appears to be slightly pale green. Caught it on full health on the third Pokeball. Lax nature. Middling IVs, although 30-31 in Attack. Cannot use it. (Thought about it when writing Shiny Clause, though.) To the box with you.

Back to the original comment. Fought a total of three trainers (Psyduck trainer, Hau, and Growlithe trainer). Could take on Hala now. Backtracked to get everyone to 14 instead.

Forgot Metronome for Fairy Wind on Saudi Arabia :togetic:. Learns zero other offensive Fairy moves by level-up. Waits until the Dazzling Gleam Technical Machine (after Hapu, so approximately level 48) for the next possible offensive Fairy move.

Time for an easy fight versus Hala.
Turn 1: :mankey: Karate Chop (38/41) / :togetic: Nasty Plot
Turn 2: :mankey: Karate Chop (35/41) / :togetic: Nasty Plot
Turn 3: :togetic: (Quick Claw) Extrasensory (100%)
Turn 4: :togetic: (Quick Claw) / :makuhita: Fake Out (29/41) / :togetic: Flinch
Turn 5: :togetic: Extrasensory (100%)
Turn 6: :crabrawler: Leer / :togetic: Extrasensory (100%)
(Reached level 15 on that final knockout.)

"The results come as no surprise to me." Same here.

Expands the team size by 1. Random egg number: 1. ...These numbers. A Net Ball :netball:, so probably Water or Bug. Guesses Dewpider, as the combination of those. Remembers that being in a Net Ball.

Canada the Dewpider :dewpider::netball:
Nature: Impish
Ability: Water Bubble
Moves: Bubble, Sticky Web, Power Split, and Stockpile.

(Picks eggs with random.org for a reason.) Good nature without the Everstone. Should have good stats from the Destiny Knot. Never used Dewpider before (among many Pokemon), despite looking quite good. Really wants to Power Split Totem Wishiwashi :wishiwashischool:.

Trained Canada :dewpider: a bit now, given the short update. Doubled as bumping up numbers for Poke Pelago later too.

Watched Canada's :dewpider: stats. Should have maximum Individual Values in Hitpoints, Defense, and Special Defense. Nice.

Thank you for reading and the reactions, as usual.

Ethiopia the Tauros :tauros:
Level: 14
Moves: Horn Attack, Work Up, Tail Whip, and Scary Face.
Hitpoints: 47
Attack: 36

I love the creativity and effort put into this. I don't think I'd be able to do this at all lol.

Lots of replies and reactions today. Appreciates it. Draws one Other and three full randoms. Begins with the Other, due to the draw order.

Random Other number: 95.
(94-95) The Situation Room: Draw three random Wonder Cards. Choose two to apply. Must pick all Legendary cards (even in the event of drawing three Legendary cards).

Ooh. Always liked the "Draw 3 and Play 2 of them" card in Flux (a normal card game). Made sense to stick it in here.

Random numbers: 102, 38, and 39.
(102) Landlocke: Retire all Pokemon whose countries are not landlocked.

Must choose Landlocke. Retires everyone except Ethiopia :tauros:. Wanted Canada :dewpider: to face Wishiwashi :wishiwashischool: in a totem battle. Oh well. Selects Political Marriage too.

Random egg numbers: 5, 22, and 12. Guesses Alolan Meowth :alolanmeowth: in the Moon Ball :moonball:, Elekid :elekid: in the Ultra Ball :ultraball:, and Voltorb :voltorb: in the Pokeball :pokeball:.

United States the Chatot :chatot::moonball:
Nature: Serious
Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Night Shade, Encore, Nasty Plot, and Boomburst.

Lots of Nasty Plot and Dragon Dance Pokemon in these eggs. Ought to hit hard with Boomburst.

Pakistan the Vullaby :vullaby::ultraball:
Nature: Impish
Ability: Overcoat
Moves: Gust, Leer, Roost, and Foul Play.

Better now than later. Evolves at 54. Ick. Comes with decent stats for right now. First Everstone recipient, also.

Algeria the Alolan Rattata :alolanrattata::pokeball:
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Thick Fat (Hidden ability)
Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip, Me First, and Revenge.

Could be decent. Received the Destiny Knot and Everstone. Evolves right at 20 (this update's level limit). Just passed Hala, fortunately. No Hustle either.

Random pair-up from Political Marriage: Ethiopia :tauros: and Pakistan :vullaby:. United States :chatot: and Algeria :alolanrattata:.

There. Completed the Other card. Now for the other three full randoms.

Random number: 6.
(6-7) National Holiday: Deposit a random Pokemon until the end of the next trial. Do not grab an egg to replace it. Do not apply any additional Wonder Card effects to this Pokemon while deposited.

...Uh oh. Randomed Pakistan :vullaby:. Triggers the Political Marriage effect. Takes out Ethiopia :tauros: as well.

Random number: 70.
(70-71) Defensive Pact: Change the battle style to Switch until the end of the next trial.

Clearly a good partnership.

Random number: 36.

Problematic next update, but not today. Could have been rough at the start of this update.

Finishes all the Wonder Card draws. Definitely yielded interesting results. Should be okay with United States :chatot: and Algeria :alolanrattata:.

Trained the newcomers up to level 14. Learned Pluck on Pakistan :vullaby:, Quick Attack and Bite on Algeria :alolanrattata:, and nothing on United States :chatot:.

Set out with just United States :chatot: and Algeria :alolanrattata:. Returned to Route 1 for Leftovers. Found a Munchlax :munchlax: on the first encounter. Caught it after an extended battle. Dampened its damage output by Encoring it into Odor Sleuth and Amnesia.

Picked up a Shell Bell and the Technical Machines for Infestation, Thief, Round, Fling, Confide, and Acrobatics. Included cleaning up Pokemon "trash" around the Hau'oli Mall. "I mean, you are the one who made the mess in the first place, but...still!" Liar. Just entered the mall. Almost wanted to refuse on principle, regardless of the Technical Machine.

Saw Lillie looking into the clothes store. Why is one of the options "You looking for the ruins?"? Sounds like an insult to the store.

Equipped the Leftovers to United States :chatot:. Fought Sina with United States :chatot: at level 15 and Algeria :alolanrattata: at 14.
Turn 1: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :delibird: Present (miss)
Turn 2: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :delibird: Present (38/51)
(Leftovers heal to 41/51)
Turn 3: :chatot: Boomburst (100%)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to 47/54.)
Turn 4: :chatot: Boomburst (100%) / :glaceon::faintedazurill:
(Another level up.)

No problem.

Lost Algeria :alolanrattata: to a wild Pikipek's :pikipek: Rock Smash. Did not see that coming. Dropped from 26/36 to 0. Learned Hyper Fang in the next fight, also.

Next notable battle: Hau. Level 16 for Algeria :alolanrattata: and 17 for United States :chatot:.
Turn 1: :pikachu: Electro Ball (25/40) / :alolanrattata: Hyper Fang (97%)
Turn 2: :pikachu: Quick Attack (17/40) / :alolanrattata: Quick Attack (the rest)
(Switch to United States :chatot:)
Turn 3: :chatot: Boomburst (65%) / :dartrix: Breakneck Blitz (36/57)
(Leftovers heal to 39/57)
Turn 4: :chatot: Boomburst (the rest)

Smiles. Just realized the team similarity. Two rats at 16 :pikachu::alolanrattata: and two birds at 17 :dartrix::chatot:. Used the same move on a turn even.

Dodged the Carbink trainer. Acts half out of difficulty, half out of watching experience.

Collected the Scope Lens, Amulet Coin, and Hidden Power Technical Machine. Hidden Power Electric for Algeria :alolanrattata: and Flying for United States :chatot:.

Fought a Double battle. One-shot Algeria :alolanrattata: with Boomburst. Ouch.

The next major battle: Gladion. 17 for Algeria :alolanrattata: and 19 for United States :chatot:.
Turn 1: :alolanrattata: Hyper Fang (85%) / :zubat: Wing Attack (26/42)
Turn 2: :alolanrattata: Quick Attack (the rest)
Turn 3: :typenull: Tackle (7/42) / :alolanrattata: Revenge (35%)
Turn 4: :alolanrattata: Switch :chatot: / :typenull: Tackle (46/62)
(Leftovers heal to 49/62)
Turn 5: :chatot: Boomburst (60%) / :typenull: Tackle (33/62)
(Leftovers heal to 36/62)
Turn 6: :chatot: Boomburst (the rest)

Thank you for not using Pursuit.

Charge Beam and Scald Technical Machines for no one. Also, Torment. Left Nature Power for another day. Cannot afford United States :chatot: to go over the limit (20).

Evolved :alolanrattata: Algeria :alolanraticate: just before the trial. Interesting Pokedex entry: "This gourmet Pokemon is particular about the taste and freshness of its food. Restaurants where Raticate live have a good reputation." Received a badly needed bump in stats. Matches United States :chatot: in several now.

Fianl fight of the update: Totem Wishiwashi :wishiwashischool:.

(Rain in effect. +1 defense for Totem Wishiwashi :wishiwashischool:.)
Turn 1: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :wishiwashischool: Growl
(New enemy partner: Wishiwashi :wishiwashi:)
Turn 2: :wishiwashi: Helping Hand / :chatot: Encore (at Totem Wishiwashi :wishiwashischool:) / :wishiwashischool: Growl
Turn 3: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :wishiwashi: Aqua Ring / :wishiwashischool: Growl
Turn 4: :wishiwashi: Helping Hand / :chatot: Nasty Plot / :wishiwashischool: Growl
(Encore over.)
Turn 5: :wishiwashi: Helping Hand / :chatot: Boomburst (100% :wishiwashischool: 100% :wishiwashi:)
(Level up. Learned Chatter too.)

Flawless. Expected to Encore Soak. Served up something even better.

Welcome back Pakistan :vullaby: and Ethiopia :tauros:. Returned from some national holiday. (Checked. Nothing in Pakistan for over two weeks. Suspicious.)

Ends this update. Thank you for reading. Contends with Totem Salazzle :salazzle: with the Tsunami card active next time.

One Positive and two randoms today. Thank you for the reactions, as always.

Random Positive number: 66.
(65-67) Science Funding: Buy any one TM from a shop.

Useful. Got roped into helping Hapu on the way back to Heahea. Options: Light Screen, Protect, Safeguard, Reflect, and Aurora Veil. Also the weather moves at Royal Avenue. Wants Protect once again.

Random number: 25.
(25-27) World Leadership: Choose a random Pokemon. Put them in the front. Cannot change its position until the end of the next trial.

Random Pokemon: 1. Pakistan :vullaby:. Needed levels anyways. Works out okay.

Triggers the extra Negative from Tsunami. Random Negative number: 20.
(20-22) Civil Unrest: Choose two random Pokemon. Must begin the next trial with a status condition of your choice.

Random Pokemon: 3 and 1. Algeria :alolanraticate: and Pakistan :vullaby:. ...May not be terrible, actually. Cannot poison them that way. Will figure out the specific status later. Either Burn or Paralysis.

Random number: 99.
(98-99) Repeating Itself: Perform the previous Wonder Card again. Add one point to Positive, Negative, Retire, and Other if not applicable. Does not work with Legendary cards.

Repeats Civil Unrest. Cannot target Pokemon with the effect already. Status for everyone, then.

No additional card from Tsunami. Says draw and apply. Applied Civil Unrest again. Did not draw it again, however.

Revisited old areas to find levels for Pakistan :vullaby: and Ethiopia :tauros:. Took on the true trial: the Carbink :carbink: trainer.
Turn 1: :vullaby: Switch :alolanraticate: / :carbink: Harden
Turn 2: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (miss) / :carbink: Sharpen
Turn 3: :carbink: Harden / :alolanraticate: Revenge (10%)
Turn 4: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Flinch
Turn 5: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Smack Down (57/67)
Turn 6: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Sharpen
Turn 7: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Rock Throw 44/67
Turn 8: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (miss) / :carbink: Rock Throw (31/67)
Turn 9: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Rock Throw (19/67)
Turn 10: :carbink: Full Restore / :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%)
Turn 11: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Rock Throw (7/67)
Turn 12: :alolanraticate: Super Potion (heal to full) / :carbink: Smack Down (54/67)
Turn 13: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (critical, 50%) / :carbink: Rock Throw (41/67)
Turn 14: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (12%) / :carbink: Smack Down (29/67)
Turn 15: :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (the rest)

Managed okay. Worked with what was available.

Discovered that Nature Power is off-limits for now. Asks to defeat all trainers on Route 5. Includes trainers on the ledge before Totem Lurantis :lurantis:. No big deal.

Ran into a mean Sudowoodo :sudowoodo:. Knew Rock Throw and Low Kick. Countered the entire team. Fainted Ethiopia :tauros:.
Will not record the Battle Royal. Ended with Type: Null :typenull: knocking out Rockruff :rockruff:. Missed defeating Dartrix :dartrix: by a sliver.

Encountered the Kadabra :kadabra: trainer in Wela Volcano Park. Switched in Ethiopia :tauros: for experience. Blasted them for 42 damage (out of 55 total hitpoints) with a single Psybeam. So nasty. Dispatched it in a single Bite from Algeria :alolanraticate:.

Lost Pakistan :vullaby: and Ethiopia :tauros: to a Roggenrola :roggenrola: and Machop :machop: trainer. Highlights the awful team composition and coverage further. (Avoided sending in United States :chatot: due to experience too.)

...Interesting. Trained up at the entrance of Wela Volcano Park. Fought a Cubone. First ally: Kangaskhan :kangaskhan:. Recalls that being rare. Caught it for style points and Poke Pelago numbers. (And later a second one.)

Leveled everyone up to 22, despite always leading with Pakistan :vullaby:.

Decided on a burn for United States :chatot: and paralysis for the rest.
  • Burn: Route 2 Growlithes :growlithe:. Encored Ember to avoid Roar. Took ten Embers.
  • Paralysis: Route 2 Cutieflies :cutiefly:. Only three moves. Easy peasy.
  • Paralysis (for Pakistan :vullaby:): Hau'oli Cemetery Gastlys :gastly:. Resists Stun Spore due to Overcoat. Knows Hypnosis, Spite, Lick, and sometimes Mean Look. Could not restore PP at the Pokemon Center. (Loses the statuses otherwise.) Sells Adrenaline Orbs after the upcoming trial too.
6902

Seven Licks. Felt like a long time, given the other moves and no good stall method. Caught ten Gastlys, on the plus side. (Considered Pichu, Magnemite, and Munchlax. May have been faster.)

Almost healed at the Pokemon Center so many times. Climbed the volcano for the trial. Learned not to target the Salandits :salandit: from last run. Calls them endlessly.

First battle: Alolan Marowak :alolanmarowak:
Turn 1: :alolanmarowak: Growl / :vullaby: Foul Play (90%)
Turn 2: :vullaby: Foul Play (the rest)

Second battle: Magmar :magmar:
Turn 1: :magmar: Smokescreen / :vullaby: Foul Play (80%)
Turn 2: :magmar: Smokescreen / :vullaby: Pluck (miss)
Turn 3: :vullaby: Switch :tauros: / :magmar: Feint Attack (59/68)
Turn 4: :magmar: Smokescreen / :tauros: Rock Tomb (the rest)

Totem battle: Salazzle :salazzle: (+1 Special Defense aura.)
Turn 1: :salazzle: Flame Burst (39/72) / :vullaby: Pluck (25% at Salazzle :salazzle:. Ate Salazzle's :salazzle: Petaya Berry. +1 Special Attack.)
(New enemy partner: Salandit :salandit:)
Turn 2: :salazzle: Torment / :salandit: Venoshock (critical, 6/72, healed to 16/72 with Oran Berry) / :vullaby: Foul Play (35% at Salazzle :salazzle:)
Turn 3: :vullaby: Switch :alolanraticate: / :salazzle: Flame Burst (59/72) / :salandit: Venoshock (43/72)
Turn 4: :salazzle: Flame Burst (30/72) / :salandit: Taunt / :alolanraticate: Paralyzed
Turn 5: :alolanraticate: Quick Attack (20% at Salazzle :salazzle:) / :salazzle: Flame Burst (17/72) / :salandit: Venoshock (1/72)
Turn 6: :alolanraticate: Lemonade (heal to 71/72) / :salazzle: Flame Burst (58/72) / :salandit: Venoshock (42/72)
(Taunt over.)
Turn 7: :alolanraticate: Quick Attack (the rest :salazzle::faintedazurill:) / :salandit: Taunt
Turn 8: :salandit: Venoshock (27/72) / :alolanraticate: Paralyzed
Turn 9: :salandit: Venoshock (11/72) / :alolanraticate: Hyper Fang (100%)

Good showing by Algeria :alolanraticate:. Leveraged that Thick Fat.

Unlocks Poke Pelago and easy travel. Permits all islands at level 1 except Isle Evelup. Uses them freely.

Increases the team size by one. Random egg number: 41 (the very last one). Continues to guess Elekid for Ultra Balls :ultraball:.

Turkey the Dwebble :dwebble::ultraball:
Nature: Bashful
Ability: Shell Armor
Moves: Fury Cutter, Curse, Night Slash, and Spikes.

Something different than the rest of the team. Brings Bug moves for Lurantis :lurantis:. Seems viable.

Ends this update. Removes the Tsunami effect now. Thank you for reading.

Nods. Enjoys a huge early-game advantage from egg moves. Showcased several great egg movesets thus far. (Nasty Plot + Boomburst, for one.) Outshines most cards and restrictions at this point, barring ugly match-ups. Fades as the game progresses.

Likes it like this, though. Turns conventional thinking around a bit. Expects most people to hope for Pokemon like Gible :gible: or Scyther :scyther:. Holds less true with these eggs. Ought to be excited by getting Chatot :chatot:, Barboach :barboach:, or Dunsparce :dunsparce: (especially early on).

Weighted the deck towards Negative for a reason, also. Do not feel bad for picking :thonkazurill:.

One Positive and one random today. Thank you for the reactions, whether Positive or Negative.

Random Positive number: 68.
(68-69) Luxury Resources: Increase a random Pokemon's maximum hearts in Pokemon Refresh by 1.

Random Pokemon: 4. United States :chatot:.
Goes up to 3 hearts. Accomplished that with a single Rainbow Bean. Occasionally survives at 1 hitpoint now. Cements their role as the lead against Lurantis :lurantis:.

Random number: 29.
(28-31) Taxes: Spend 50% of your current money total on Pokeballs.

Currently at 16706 Pokedollars. Bought 84 Pokeballs at the Thrifty Megamart. Now at 8306. Probably the least harmful Negative card in the deck. Hampers buying healing items, though.

Trained up Turkey :dwebble: to level 22 at Route 8. Turned the corner on experience grinding with Trumbeaks :trumbeak: and Fletchinders :fletchinder:. Slaughtered them with Turkey's :dwebble: freshly acquired Rock Blast. May have maximum IVs for Hitpoints, Special Defense, and maybe Speed. (Outsped a Fletchinder :fletchinder: four levels lower.) High Defense as well.

(Sidenote: Never knew about 🦃. Do not be surprised to see that instead of :dwebble:.)

Flame Charge Technical Machine for no one. Not even Ethiopia :tauros:.

Recalls several scary trainers on this route. Names the Miltank :miltank: trainer as one. Knocked it out in two of Algeria's :alolanraticate: Revenges. One-shot an Archen :archen: later with Pakistan's :vullaby: Foul Play.

Remembered one final tough trainer. Faced them for some revenge...hopefully.
Turn 1: :goomy: Bide / :chatot: Nasty Plot
Turn 2: :goomy: Bide / :chatot: Nasty Plot
Turn 3: :goomy: Bide (failed) / :chatot: Nasty Plot
Turn 4: :goomy: Bide / :chatot: Boomburst (100%)
Turn 5: :chatot: Boomburst (100%) / :sylveon::faintedazurill:

Absolute destruction. Do not be fooled by that performance, though. Struggled against that level 23 Sylveon :sylveon: last time. Knows Draining Kiss with its 110 base Special Attack.

Passed on Stealth Rock for Turkey :dwebble:. Yields too little value in the main story.

Entered the trial area at level 24 for everyone except Algeria :alolanraticate: at 23. Caught them up on the Pokemon within. Dropped Bite for Crunch. Boasts less speed than Kanto Raticate. Favored the power.

Grass Knot Technical Machine for...Algeria :alolanraticate:? Lacks enough Special Attack to be effective, unfortunately.

Gave a Sitrus Berry to United States :chatot:. Pounded and crushed some ingredients. Prepared to do the same to Lurantis :lurantis:.

(+2 Speed for Totem Lurantis :lurantis:)
Turn 1: :lurantis: Razor Leaf (62/77) / :chatot: Nasty Plot
(New enemy partner: Trumbeak :trumbeak:.)
Turn 2: :lurantis: Solar Blade (29/77, heal to 48/77 with Sitrus Berry) / :chatot: Boomburst (75% :lurantis: 100% :trumbeak::faintedazurill:)
(New enemy partner: Castform :castform:.)
Turn 3: :lurantis: Synthesis (heal to 80%) / :chatot: Boomburst (75% :lurantis: 100% :castform::faintedazurill:)
Turn 4: :lurantis: Synthesis (heal to 60%) / :chatot: Boomburst (the rest)
(Level up.)

Turned it to goo. Handled those +2 Boombursts relatively well, though.

Smart Strike Technical Machine for...Ethiopia? Shocking. Provides an answer to Olivia.

Realized something while thinking of an update name. Prevailed due to Nasty Plots, Revenge, and Foul Play. Turned into the villains at some point.

Flew through this update. No deaths for the first time too. Will almost certainly go far worse against Olivia, given three weaknesses :chatot::vullaby::dwebble: to Rock. Thank you for reading. Farewell for now.

Just the base card today. Appreciates the reaction. Makes the run more interesting.

Random number: 94.
(94-95) The Situation Room: Draw three random Wonder Cards. Choose two to apply. Must pick all Legendary cards (even in the event of drawing three Legendary cards).

Promises to make today livelier. Random numbers: 93, 95, and 8.

(92-93) Government Secrets: Go to Lillie's loft. Attempt to read their diary.
(94-95) The Situation Room: Draw three random Wonder Cards. Choose two to apply. Must pick all Legendary cards (even in the event of drawing three Legendary cards).
(8-11) Nationalism: Delete all of a random Pokemon's moves that are not of its type(s). Select a move at random to remain, in the event of knowing no moves of its type(s).

Government Secrets and The Situation Room round 2, undoubtedly. Knew of the possibility of drawing itself. Never expected it to happen.

Snuck into Kukui's lab. Left it unlocked. Peered in. No Kukui, just Pokemon. Climbed the ladder. Found the target on a desk. Locked that, of course. Do your thing, Murkrow :murkrow:. May be back another time.

More random numbers: 92, 40, and 54.
(92-93) Government Secrets: Go to Lillie's loft. Attempt to read their diary.
(39-40) Political Marriage: Pair up Pokemon randomly. Cannot switch to any other Pokemon besides their partner unless both faint). Apply any Wonder Card (except Legendaries) that affects a single Pokemon to its partner too. Persists until the end of the update.
(54-55) Alolaphobia: Retire all Pokemon from Alola. (Affects Rowlet through Kommo-O AND regional variants like Alolan Rattata.) Do not redraw if this affects no one.

Hm. Already fulfilled Government Secrets this update. Seems invalid. Never considered what happens if you cannot apply one of these cards. Will redraw that.

Replacement random number: 11.
(8-11) Nationalism: Delete all of a random Pokemon's moves that are not of its type(s). Select a move at random to remain, in the event of knowing no moves of its type(s).

Tough choice. Possible major losses from Nationalism: Nasty Plot :chatot:, Curse :dwebble:, and Revenge :alolanraticate:. Cannot target Pakistan :vullaby: due to only knowing Dark and Flying moves. Hates to lose Algeria :alolanraticate:, however, despite being an overloaded type.

Sighs. Chooses Alolaphobia, followed by Political Marriage. Sorry, Algeria :alolanraticate:. Already has two Normal types and a Dark type. Will miss your good Special Defense.

Random egg number: 27. Another Moon Ball :moonball:. Who else was in these? ...Alolan Meowth :alolanmeowth:. Come on. Gave the parent its Hidden Ability too (for fun, not power). Lowers the chances of Fur Coat.

Indonesia the Litwick :litwick::moonball:
Nature: Modest
Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Ember, Astonish, Heat Wave, and Clear Smog.

Whew. Brings Rock weaknesses up to four right before Olivia, though. Represents the only Ghost type and one of two Fire types among the eggs.

Political Marriage pairings: Ethiopia :tauros: + Pakistan :vullaby: (again?). United States :chatot: + Turkey :dwebble:. No love for Indonesia :litwick:.

Trained up Indonesia :litwick: to 24. Taught them Hidden Power (Ice) and Will-o-Wisp. Sort of regrets retiring Algeria :alolanraticate:. Had pretty good stats, moves, and a hidden ability. Says that after seeing their replacement, admittedly. Could warm up to Indonesia :litwick: against Totem Vikavolt :vikavolt:.

Entered the Interdimensional Research Lab. Talked about strange Pokemon from other worlds. Points you towards the books. Finds it odd to see Bronzong :bronzong: alongside Giratina :giratina: and Palkia :palkia:.

Shamed a Growlithe :growlithe: with Indonesia :litwick:. Nullified Fire Fang, Take Down, and Reversal.

Reached Konikoni City. Time for the real taxes: clothes. Spent 18850 Pokedollars. Dropped down to 3896 on hand. Could sell Star Pieces for cash, if necessary. Brings the true amount left close to 22000. Obligatory picture:
6907

Picked up the Eviolite. Handed it to Pakistan :vullaby:. Becomes fairly durable with that and Roost.

Rich Lady: "Which Pokemon do you think is fitting with the grave? Let's battle. Perhaps you'll figure it out." Fought them with Indonesia :litwick:. "Is it Ghost type after all? I'm also looking for something that's unexpected." Actually sort of fits.

What? Why does Turkey :dwebble: not learn Leech Life? Skewers that plan.

Remembers a mean Gyarados :gyarados: trainer near that Leech Life Technical Machine.

Turn 1: :staryu: Camoflague (Grass type now) / :vullaby: Foul Play (55%)
Turn 2: :staryu: Bubble Beam (62/74) / :vullaby: Pluck (the rest)
(Intimidate by Gyarados :gyarados:)
Turn 3: :gyarados: Thrash (critical, 30/74) / :vullaby: Foul Play (critical, 80%)
Turn 4: :gyarados: Thrash (11/74, Thrash over) / :vullaby: Foul Play (the rest)

Took that critical Thrash like a champion.

Shortly thereafter: Plumeria. Level 25 for Pakistan :vullaby: and Ethiopia :tauros:.

Turn 1: :golbat: Confuse Ray / :vullaby: Foul Play (75%)
Turn 2: :golbat: Air Cutter (64/77) / :vullaby: Foul Play (the rest)
Turn 3: :salandit: Flame Burst (46/77) / :vullaby: Pluck (45%)
Turn 4: :salandit: Flame Burst (25/77) / :vullaby: Roost (heal to 64/77)
Turn 5: :salandit: Poison Gas / :vullaby: (No longer confused) Foul Play (the rest)

Made up for some earlier confusion nonsense. How is Pakistan :vullaby: doing so well?

Leveled everyone to 27. Thought about giving Ethiopia :tauros: Protect and/or Work Up. Opted to keep Scary Face to slow down Lycanroc's :lycanrocmidnight: Bites. Picked Leftovers over a Cheri Berry (for Nosepass's :nosepass: Thunder Wave), also. Recalls Anorith :anorith: having Bug Bite. (Note: Did not look up Olivia's team.) May reconsider in the event of a wipe.

Good luck, Ethiopia :tauros:. Needs you to perform absurdly well.

Turn 1: :tauros: Smart Strike (35%) / :nosepass: Thunder Wave
Turn 2: :tauros: Smart Strike (35%) / :nosepass: Rock Slide (miss)
Turn 3: :tauros: Paralyze Heal / :nosepass: Rock Slide (miss)

Turn 9: :tauros: Scary Face / :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (26/82)
(Leftovers heal to 31/82)
Turn 10: :tauros: Super Potion (heal to full) / :lycanrocmidnight: Continental Crush (27/82)
(Leftovers heal to 32/82)
Turn 11: :tauros: Smart Strike (45%) / :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (5/82)

Turn 12: :tauros: Hyper Potion (heal to full) (Final item) / :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (critical, 42/82) (:tauros: Anger Point active)
(Leftovers heal to 47/82)
Turn 13: :tauros: Smart Strike (the rest)

Amazing. Finished the fight with one Smart Strike left. Feels nice to use that for a change.

Ah. Nearly forgot. Grows to a full team of six now.
Random egg number: 29. Normal Pokeball :pokeball:. Tyrunt :tyrunt:, maybe?

Kenya the Voltorb :voltorb::pokeball:
Nature: Modest

Picks up special moves while leveling, thankfully. Checked out its Hidden Power: Ice. Seems to be popular.

Concludes this update. Completed two straight updates without any fainting. Hopes to continue the streak versus Hau, Molayne, and Totem Vikavolt :vikavolt: next time. Thank you for reading. Farewell for now.

Definitely got more mileage out of both than expected.

Should have made Political Marriage more permanent, also. Sticks around too briefly. Barely even noticed it. Switched once during the entire update.

Probably completely permanent. Wanted a Wedlocke card without the -locke. Ought to disappear before long anyways. Stands a higher chance of being retired than unpaired Pokemon. Might knock it down to 40 too. Maybe, maybe not.

Could be a while before the next Egg + Wonder Card challenge. (Plans to try an ordinary monotype in X next at present.) Will probably switch up the formula too. Thought about dropping cards in favor of applying random attributes to Pokemon upon hatching. (Examples: Cannot switch out or always holding the Shell Bell.) Stole the idea from Small World, for those who know of that board game. Remains very subject to change, of course.

An Other, a Negative, and a random (in that order). Thanks for the reactions.

Random Other number: 89.
(88-89) Alolan Hawaiian Shirts: Buy and wear at least two new articles of clothing.

Will fulfill this upon reaching Malie City. Sells the final pieces of clothing there.

Random Negative number: 22.
(20-22) Civil Unrest: Choose two random Pokemon. Must begin the next trial with a status condition of your choice.

This again, huh? Random Pokemon: 3 and 6. Turkey :dwebble: and Kenya :voltorb:. Not great, but not Indonesia :litwick:, at least.

Random number: 52.
(52-53) Volcanic Eruption: Retire a random Pokemon with at least one volcano in its country.

Marks the first time looking at that information. Appears to be...everyone. Surprising. Remembers being about 50/50 on volcanoes.
Random Pokemon: 2. Pakistan :vullaby:. Aw. Did so well. Faced some tough match-ups ahead, though. May have been a good time to exit. Could have used them for Molayne, admittedly.

Random egg number: 3. Friend Ball :friendball:. Hm. Cannot recall anyone on the list in this ball. Maybe Mankey or Finneon?

Poland the Mankey :mankey::friendball:
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Vital Spirit
Moves: Night Slash, Close Combat, Counter, and Encore.

Aw. No Defiant. Added Counter and Encore to Mankey :mankey: since last run, as well as the ball :pokeball:change:friendball:.

Interesting note: Hatched a Mankey :mankey: last run after defeating Olivia. Enters at the same time, essentially.

Trained up Kenya :voltorb: and Poland :mankey:. Updated moves for Kenya: Hidden Power (Ice), Electro Ball, Thunder Wave, and Eerie Impulse.

Returned to Seaward Cave for an Expert Belt. Equipped it to Ethiopia :tauros: for the fights ahead.

"Imagine using the same Pokemon in your Boxes in battle again after hundreds of years..." How do you plan to live that long?

...Oh. +2 Defense to Nihilego :nihilego:. Defeated it in three Smart Strikes (the last one being a critical, of course).

Free Psychic Technical Machine. Something for Indonesia :litwick:.

Immediate battle with Hau. No party switching since Nihilego :nihilego:. Remembered from last time, fortunately. Hates to lead with Ethiopia :tauros:, considering the -Special Defense nature. Prefers going for the Payback one-shot over Eerie Impulse, given Kenya's :voltorb: iffy stats.

Turn 1: :alolanraichu: Electro Ball (critical, 21/85) (:tauros: Anger Point active) / :tauros: Payback (100%)
Turn 2: :tauros: Super Potion (heal to 81/85) / :vaporeon: Water Pulse (39/85)
Turn 3: :tauros: Horn Attack (100%)
Turn 4: :tauros: Horn Attack (100%) / :dartrix::faintedazurill:

Another Anger Point? Lamented about not getting Intimidate originally. Did a lot of good so far. Leveled up to 29 (the level limit) from that battle, also. Deposited Ethiopia :tauros: to be safe.

Evolved :mankey:Poland:primeape: on a sightseer :raticate::raichu: trainer battle. 71 Attack and Speed. Matches Ethiopia's :tauros: Attack, but 10 less Speed. Best Special Defense on the team at 52.

Accesses Malie City now. Beelined to the clothes store. Shopped around. Decided on this:
6913

Refers to them as bad phone pictures for a reason. Forgot to record the total cost. Maybe 15000?

Wait a minute. Read this at the library:
"A great and terrible battle waged between the tapu and the Legendary Pokemon, but neither side could claim victory over the other. Upon finding themselves equals, the Legendary Pokemon then gifted the tapu with great power of unknown providence."
Why would you give power to an enemy you just tried to defeat? What Pokemon author wrote this?

Spoke to a person nearby. "It's only by reading some really terrible books that you learn to recognize the good ones!" Answered that fast.

Snuck through Route 11 for the Gyro Ball Technical Machine. Aaaand only for Kenya :voltorb:. Incredibly worthless.

Shamed another Growlithe :growlithe: with Indonesia :litwick:. Laughed at three straight moves with no effect, just like last time. Learned Hex for its troubles.

Kukui: "I've always valued our old traditions here in Alola, but it's time to make a Champion the whole world will recognize!" Or just install a puppet Champion. Either/or.

"And then, when we have our own Champion, they can show the rest of the world what's so special about Alolan Pokemon and their Trainers, yeah!" Clearly not much, based on the last two updates.

And now for Molayne. Seems like a good time to use Indonesia :litwick:, right? Wrong. Prefers the old strategies, super effective or very much not. Level 27 for United States :chatot: and Turkey :dwebble:. 28 for the others (in the party).

Turn 1: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :skarmory: Air Cutter (63/95)
(Leftovers heal to 68/85)
Turn 2: :chatot: Nasty Plot / :skarmory: Metal Claw (41/95)
(Leftovers heal to 46/85)
Turn 3: :chatot: Chatter (35%, confusion) / :skarmory: Hit itself
(Leftovers heal to 51/85)
Turn 4: :skarmory: Full Heal / :chatot: Nasty Plot
(Leftovers heal to 56/85)
Turn 5: :chatot: Boomburst (the rest)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to 64/88)
Turn 6: :chatot: Boomburst (95%) / :metang: Pursuit (50/88)
(Leftovers heal to 55/88)
Turn 7: :chatot: Boomburst (the rest)
(Leftovers heal to 60/88)
Turn 8: :alolandugtrio: Sucker Punch (19/88) / :chatot: Boomburst (100%)
(Level up again.)

Kept Indonesia :litwick: out because of Metang's :metang: Pursuit. Had Alolan Dugtrio :alolandugtrio: in the wings also.

Trained everyone to 29. Remains miserable for Ghost/Fire types, with Assurance Fearows :fearow:, Alolan Raticates :alolanraticate:, Alolan Grimers :alolangrimer:, and Minior :minior: everywhere nearby.

Chose Burn for Kenya :voltorb: and Paralysis for Turkey :dwebble:.
  • Burn: Taught Gyro Ball to Kenya :voltorb:. Smacked a Route 8 Fletchinder :fletchinder: with it for a Flame Body activation. Worked in four attacks.
  • Paralysis: Route 2 Cutiefly :cutiefly: again.
Deliberated on who to lead with for Totem Vikavolt :vikavolt:. Decided on Indonesia :litwick: for Clear Smog. Worries about its Defense (tied for lowest) and Speed (lowest by more than double). Gave it a Quick Claw and hoped for the best. Bestowed the Eviolite upon Turkey :dwebble:. Taught Rock Tomb to several Pokemon as a backup too.

Battle 1: Grubbin :grubbin:.
Turn 1: :grubbin: Bug Bite (62/68) / :litwick: Heat Wave (100%)

Battle 2: Charjabug :charjabug:.
Turn 1: :charjabug: Charge / :litwick: Heat Wave (90%)
Turn 2: :charjabug: Bug Bite (55/68) / :litwick: Hex (the rest)

Battle 3: Charjabug :charjabug:.
Turn 1: :charjabug: Mud Slap (45/68) / :litwick: Heat Wave (100%)

Battle 4: Totem Vikavolt :vikavolt: (+1 all stats).
Turn 1: :vikavolt: Spark (0/68 :litwick::faintedazurill:)
(New enemy partner: Charjabug :charjabug:)
Turn 2: :vikavolt: Charge / :charjabug: Mud Slap (71/75, -1 accuracy) / :dwebble: Paralyzed
Turn 3: :vikavolt: Spark (24/75) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (20/76, -1 accuracy) / :dwebble: Curse
Turn 4: :dwebble: Super Potion (heal to full) / :vikavolt: Bug Bite (58/75) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (53/76, -1 accuracy)
Turn 5: :vikavolt: Bug Bite (37/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (33/76, -1 accuracy) / :dwebble: Curse
Turn 6: :vikavolt: Bug Bite (18/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (14/76, -1 accuracy) / :dwebble: Curse
Turn 7: :dwebble: Hyper Potion (heal to full) / :vikavolt: Spark (64/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (60/76)
Turn 8: :vikavolt: Spark (48/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (44/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 9: :vikavolt: Spark (34/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (30/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (at Vikavolt :vikavolt:, 2 hits for 60% total)
Turn 10: :vikavolt: Charge / :charjabug: Mud Slap (26/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 11: :vikavolt: Spark (7/76) / :charjabug: Mud Slap (3/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 12: :dwebble: Hyper Potion (heal to full) (Final item) / :vikavolt: Bug Bite (64/76) / :charjabug: Vice Grip (62/76)
Turn 13: :vikavolt: Spark (52/76) / :charjabug: Vice Grip (50/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 14: :vikavolt: Spark (38/76) / :charjabug: Vice Grip (36/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (at Vikavolt :vikavolt:, the rest :faintedazurill:)
Turn 15: :charjabug: Vice Grip (34/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 16: :charjabug: Vice Grip (32/76) / :dwebble: Paralyzed
Turn 17: :charjabug: Vice Grip (30/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 18: :charjabug: Vice Grip (28/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
Turn 19: :charjabug: Vice Grip (26/76) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (100%)
(Level up.)

Thanks for nothing, Quick Claw. Underestimated Vikavolt's :vikavolt: power, admittedly. Smacked Turkey :dwebble: hard, even with the Eviolite.

Lucked out overall, probably. 90% accurate Rock Blast, -6 accuracy, and paralyzed? Hm. (9/10) * (3/9) * (3/4) = 22.5% chance of hitting (and not being paralyzed). Better than expected.

Takes on Totem Mimikyu :mimikyu: next time. Thanks for reading. Farewell for now.

Two randoms for today's update. Thank you for the reactions, as always.

Random number: 69.
(68-69) Luxury Resources: Increase a random Pokemon's maximum hearts in Pokemon Refresh by 1.
Random Pokemon: 6. Ethiopia :tauros:.

Deserves it. Would have preferred Turkey :dwebble: for this update, but no complaints.

Random number: 8.
(8-11) Nationalism: Delete all of a random Pokemon's moves that are not of its type(s). Select a move at random to remain, in the event of knowing no moves of its type(s).
Random Pokemon: 5. United States :chatot:.

Takes out Nasty Plot. Sinks United States's :chatot: main gimmick. Replaced it with Work Up.

Level limit of 33 today. Began by picking fights with trainers on Mount Hokulani. Why? An evolution for :voltorb:Kenya:electrode:. Found the Volt Switch Technical Machine on the mountain too. Decided not to teach it, despite being very good. What do you remove between Hidden Power (Ice), Electro Ball, Thunder Wave, and Eerie Impulse?

Answered the above question by dropping Hidden Power for Protect (temporarily). Say hi to Guzma.

Turn 1: :electrode: Protect / :golisopod: First Impression (blocked)
Turn 2: :electrode: Electro Ball (65%) (Golisopod's :golisopod: Emergency Exit)
Turn 3: :electrode: Thunder Wave / :ariados: Fell Stinger (52/85)
(Leftovers heal to 57/85)
Turn 4: :electrode: Electro Ball (65%) / :ariados: Fell Stinger (24/85)
(Leftovers heal to 29/85)
Turn 5 :electrode: Protect / :ariados: Fell Stinger (blocked)
(Leftovers heal to 34/85)
Turn 6: :electrode: Electro Ball (the rest)
(Leftovers heal to 39/85)
Turn 7: :electrode: Protect / :golisopod: First Impression (blocked)
(Leftovers heal to 44/85)
Turn 8: :electrode: Electro Ball (the rest)

An underwhelming performance, but sufficient. Increases Volt Switch's value.

Lucked out. Ran into a Hariyama :hariyama: trainer. Smacked Poland :primeape: and United States :chatot: for 75% of their health with Vital Throw. Could have fainted Turkey :dwebble: in three hits. Knew Knock Off for Indonesia :litwick: too. Accepted losing someone and went with Close Combat from Poland :primeape:. Critical hit. Took it out from ~90% health.

Idle thought: Why does Kenya :electrode: have more facial expressions than Petchenik?

Finally found something for Indonesia :litwick: to fight: Porygon :porygon: and Magneton :magneton:. Comes after trainers with Ariados :ariados: with Sucker Punch, Herdier :herdier: with Crunch, Stufful :stufful: with Brutal Swing, Hariyama :hariyama: with Knock Off, Krokorok :krokorok:, and Cranidos :cranidos: with Assurance. Why does Alola love Dark moves so much?

Brought everyone up to 33 before Totem Mimikyu :mimikyu:. One level away from Turkey's :dwebble: evolution. Oh well. Plans to let Mimikyu :mimikyu: take itself out. Cooperates, hopefully.

(+1 to all stats for Totem Mimikyu :mimikyu:)
Turn 1: :mimikyu: Mimic / :dwebble: Curse
(New enemy partner: Haunter :haunter:.)
Turn 2: :haunter: Sucker Punch (failed) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (56/86) / :dwebble: Curse
Turn 3: :mimikyu: Mimic (Copied Curse) / :haunter: Night Shade (29/86) / :dwebble: Curse
Turn 4: :dwebble: Super Potion (heal to full) / :haunter: Sucker Punch (failed) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (70/86)
Turn 5: :mimikyu: Play Rough (54/86) / :haunter: Hypnosis / :dwebble: Asleep
Turn 6: :mimikyu: Play Rough (36/86) / :haunter: Night Shade (9/86) / :dwebble: Asleep
Turn 7: :dwebble: Hyper Potion (heal to full) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (68/86) / :haunter: Night Shade (41/86)
Turn 8: :haunter: Sucker Punch (38/86) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (22/86) / :dwebble: Asleep
Turn 9: :dwebble: Hyper Potion (heal to full) (Final item) / :haunter: Sucker Punch (failed) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (68/86)
Turn 10: :haunter: Sucker Punch (65/86) / :mimikyu: Play Rough (49/86) / :dwebble: Night Slash (at Haunter :haunter:, 100% :faintedazurill:)
Turn 11: :mimikyu: Curse (Hurt itself to 50%) / :dwebble: Rock Blast (miss)
(Curse damage to 28/86. New enemy partner: Gengar :gengar:.)
Turn 12: :dwebble: Switch :tauros: / :mimikyu: Shadow Claw (immune) / :gengar: Shadow Ball (immune)
Turn 13: :mimikyu: Play Rough (48/96) / :tauros: Payback (at Gengar :gengar:, 90%) / :gengar: Hypnosis (miss)
Turn 14: :tauros: Switch :chatot: / :mimikyu: Play Rough (10/103) / :gengar: Hypnosis
Turn 15: :chatot: Switch :litwick: / :mimikyu: Curse (Hurt itself to 1%) / :gengar: Night Shade (50/77)
(Curse damage to 31/77)
Turn 16: :litwick: Switch :electrode: / :mimikyu: Shadow Claw (36/93) / :gengar: Shadow Ball (9/86)
(Leftovers heal to 14/93)
Turn 17: :electrode: Switch :tauros: / :mimikyu: Astonish (immune) / :gengar: Night Shade (immune)
Turn 18: :mimikyu: Curse :faintedazurill: / :tauros: Payback (at Gengar :gengar:, the rest :faintedazurill:)

Technically went according to plan. Killed itself with Curse. Never broke its Disguise. Did not mean to stall it out of Play Rough, however. Encountered bad timing and circumstances.
  1. Fell asleep right before a Rock Blast on Mimikyu :mimikyu:
  2. Missed the other Rock Blast.
  3. Evidently has an odd number of hitpoints. Held on at 1 hitpoint after the second Curse.
Team health at the end:
  • Turkey :dwebble:: 28/86 (32.6%)
  • Poland :primeape:: 92/92 (100%)
  • Kenya :electrode:: 14/93 (15.1%)
  • Indonesia :litwick:: 31/77 (40.3%)
  • United States :chatot:: 12/105 (11.4%) (Asleep)
  • Ethiopia :tauros:: 48/99 (48.5%)
Thank you for reading. Escaped with no deaths this update, somehow. Faces Guzma round 2 and the third Grand Trial next. Farewell for now.

One Positive and three randoms. Thank you for the reactions. Keeps the challenge interesting.

Random Positive number: 74.
(74-75) Education Funding: Transfer a random Pokemon to Ultra Sun. May learn one move of your choice from a tutor on the current island or earlier.
Random Pokemon: 3. Kenya :electrode:.

Uh. Hm. Chooses between Signal Beam, Magic Coat, Magnet Rise, Snore, Shock Wave, and Telekinesis. Could use Signal Beam for Nanu. Worries about missing the one-shot on Krokorok :krokorok:, though. Lacked the power an awful lot of times already. Dropped Thunder Wave for it.

Random number: 21.
(20-22) Civil Unrest: Choose two random Pokemon. Must begin the next trial with a status condition of your choice.
Random Pokemon: 3 and 6. Kenya :electrode: and Ethiopia :tauros:.

This again? Not the worst choices, at least.

Random number: 37.
(37-38) Wasteful Spending: Toss a Pokeball or Adrenaline Orb on the first turn of the upcoming trial. (Ignore "Logistics Error" for this turn, if necessary.)

First time for this in either run.

Random number: 65.
(65-67) Science Funding: Buy any one TM from a shop.

Ooh. Lots of good choices between Swords Dance, Bulldoze, screens, Shadow Claw, and U-turn. What is likely to be the biggest problem in the future? Primarina :primarina:. Lacks any users right now (besides Kenya :electrode: with Eerie Impulse already). Could really help if they retire, though. Selects Light Screen.

Kicks off the actual playing part with a battle versus Plumeria. Dropped Hidden Power on Kenya :electrode: again for Thunder Wave.

Turn 1: :golbat: Confuse Ray / :electrode: Hit itself (85/93)
(Leftovers heal to 90/93)
Turn 2: :golbat: Poison Fang (60/93) / :electrode: (No longer confused) Thunder Wave
(Leftovers heal to 65/93)
Turn 3: :electrode: Electro Ball (80%) / :golbat: Poison Fang (35/93)
(Leftovers heal to 40/93)
Turn 4: :electrode: Electro Ball (the rest)
(Leftovers heal to 45/93)
Turn 5: :salazzle: Flame Burst (0/93 :faintedazurill:)
Turn 6: :salazzle: Flame Burst (44/99) / :tauros: Horn Attack (55%)
Turn 7: :tauros: Switch :litwick: / :salazzle: Flame Burst (immune)
Turn 8: :salazzle: Toxic / :litwick: Heat Wave (40%)
(Poison damage to 73/77)
Turn 9: :salazzle: Dragon Rage (33/77) / :litwick: Hex (the rest)

Lost so much confidence in Kenya :electrode:. Base 150 Speed for Kenya :electrode: (107 in actual stats) versus 117 for Salazzle and 90 for Golbat :golbat:. What? How are you slower? Another note: 66 Special Defense on Kenya :electrode: and 48 on Ethiopia :tauros:. Took 55 damage from Flame Burst on the latter. Hit Kenya :electrode: for at least 45. Could have died to a high damage roll or something.

Edit: Checked after posting the update. Level 34 Golbat :golbat:, Jolly, and 31 IVs + 252 EVs in Speed: 107 Speed. Tied Kenya :electrode: thanks to competitive training.

Taught Zen Headbutt to Ethiopia :tauros: over Payback. Never received the Payback damage boost. Makes sense to go for the flinch.

Wild Charge Technical Machine a few steps away. Something for Kenya :electrode: and Ethiopia :tauros:, but not now.

X-Scissor Technical Machine not long after. Taught it to Turkey :dwebble: over Bug Bite.

Evolved :dwebble:Turkey:crustle:. Knocked off the Eviolite in that battle, quite appropriately. Boosted them to #1 defense on the team (99) and one point under Kenya :electrode: for best Special Defense. Ties Ethiopia's :tauros: Attack stat too.

Two critical Heat Waves in a row for Indonesia :litwick:. Evidently saw an opportunity to not be the most worthless on the team. (Evolves at 41, so not this update.)

Fought the Flame Orb trainer. Wanted that for easier burn status. (Could have transferred one over. Did not feel like it.)
Turn 1: :chatot: Chatter (30%, confusion) / :hariyama: Knock Off (54/105)
Turn 2: :chatot: Switch :primeape: / :hariyama: Arm Thrust (4 hits, 32/95)
Turn 3: :primeape: Close Combat (40%, Shell Bell heal to 41/95) / :hariyama: Knock Off (0/95 :faintedazurill:)
Turn 4: :chatot: Chatter (the rest)
Turn 5: :chatot: Switch :crustle: / :alakazam: Psybeam (53/105, confusion)
(Leftovers heal to 59/105)
Turn 6: :alakazam: Trick / :crustle: X-Scissor (100%)

Expected a loss there. Cannot easily deal with Hariyama :hariyama:. Knows nothing effective on Turkey :crustle:. Smashes everyone else hard. (Should have sent Turkey :crustle: in after Poland :primeape:, also. Remembered that Alakazam :alakazam:.)

Outsped a different trainer's Golbat :golbat: with Kenya :electrode:. Still took a beating thanks to a Thunder Wave miss and Poison Fang critical + poison.

Poison Jab Technical Machine for Poland :primeape: and Turkey :crustle:. Declines for now, but yet another solid option.

Planned Experience Share usage around level 39 for Guzma for a few minutes. Spaced on actually turning it on, though. Definitely feels the effects of awful sleep last night.

Psh. Lost Indonesia :litwick: to poison damage after a Gastly's :gastly: Shadow Ball. Does not play Nuzlockes for reasons like this. Dislikes that feeling of tension and loss, certainly. Makes really poor decisions at times. Seems silly to not play a game because of bad sleep. Wants to play games more then. (Admits to feeling tempted to stop. Wishes to finish this challenge next week, however.)

Appreciates all of these Golbat :golbat: rematches for Kenya :electrode:. Usually seeks revenge for match-ups that should have gone better.

Leveled everyone to 37. Cannot trust spontaneous strategy today. Current plan:
  • Enter with Kenya :electrode:. Protect -> Electro Ball.
  • Send out United States :chatot: for Ariados :ariados: or Turkey :crustle: for Pinsir :pinsir:. Set up with United States :chatot:, if possible.
Double-checked items and moves. Go time for Guzma.

Oh, two Pokemon. No Pinsir :pinsir:, then. Curse you, Ultra.
Turn 1: :electrode: Protect / :golisopod: First Impression (blocked)
Turn 2: :electrode: Electro Ball (55%) (Golisopod's :golisopod: Emergency Exit)
Turn 3: :electrode: Switch :chatot: / :ariados: Fell Stinger (90/114)
Turn 4: :ariados: Sucker Punch (failed) / :chatot: Work Up
Turn 5: :ariados: Sucker Punch (failed) / :chatot: Encore
Turn 6: :ariados: Sucker Punch (failed / :chatot: Work Up
Turn 7: :ariados: Sucker Punch (failed) / :chatot: Work Up
Turn 8: :ariados: Sucker Punch (failed) / :chatot: Work Up
(Encore over.)
Turn 9: :chatot: Chatter (100%)
Turn 10: :chatot: Chatter (the rest) / :golisopod::faintedazurill:

Good. May want Leftovers over the Sitrus Berry in the next rematch.

Gladion next. Never remembers their team beyond Type: Null :typenull:. Another Golbat :golbat:, maybe? Whatever. Leaves everything to Turkey :crustle:.

Watched the flashback of Team Skull taking Lillie. Zoomed in on Lillie while saying, "I will go with you willingly. Wherever you want." Noticed the kid behind Lillie. Why are they smiling? Do they have Petchenik's problem too?

Anyways, Gladion.
Turn 1: :golbat: Acrobatics (81/111) / :crustle: Curse
(Leftovers heal to 87/111)
Turn 2: :golbat: Acrobatics (65/111) / :crustle: Curse
(Leftovers heal to 71/111)
Turn 3: :golbat: Acrobatics (52/111) / :crustle: Rock Blast (2 hits, 100%)
(Leftovers heal to 58/111)
Turn 4: :sneasel: Metal Claw (44/111, +1 attack) / :crustle: X-Scissor (100%)
(Leftovers heal to 50/111)
Turn 5: :typenull: X-Scissor (38/111) / :crustle: X-Scissor (55%)
(Leftovers heal to 44/111)
Turn 6: :typenull: X-Scissor (33/111) / :crustle: X-Scissor (the rest)

No special moves or Confuse Ray from Golbat :golbat:? How kind.

Grinded to 39 on everyone. Gave Kenya :electrode: a Burn and Ethiopia :tauros: Paralysis.

Arrives at Nanu's Grand Trial. Remembers Power Gem on Sableye :sableye: and Alolan Persian :alolanpersian:. Presents a problem for Turkey :crustle:. Strategy:
  • Leads with Sableye :sableye:. Eerie Impulse it twice (or three, if able). Heal as needed.
  • Switch to Turkey :crustle:. Curse to 4 or as able. Heal before smashing Sableye :sableye:.
  • Sends out Alolan Persian :alolanpersian: next. Take a nasty Black Hole Eclipse. One-shot with X-Scissor.
  • Sends out Krokorok :krokorok:. Switch to United States :chatot:. Switch immediately to Poland :primeape:. Removes the chance of Earthquake. Give Poland :primeape: a Persim Berry in case of Swagger.
  • Keep Turkey :crustle: in in the event of Sableye :sableye: to Krokorok :krokorok:.
Worries most about the start of the plan. Hinges hard on Kenya :electrode:. May be packing Shadow Claw. Wastes a turn at the start too. Uses Fake Out, hopefully.

Turn 1: :electrode: Pokeball / :sableye: Fake Out (96/108)
(Burn damage to 90/108)
Turn 2: :electrode: Eerie Impulse / :sableye: Shadow Ball (71/108)
(Burn damage to 65/108)
Turn 3: :electrode: Eerie Impulse / :sableye: Shadow Ball (50/108)
(Sitrus Berry heal to 77/108. Burn damage to 71/108)
Turn 4: :electrode: Eerie Impulse / :sableye: Shadow Ball (61/108, -1 Special Defense)
(Burn damage to 55/108)
Turn 5: :electrode: Thunder Wave / :sableye: Shadow Ball (39/108)
(Burn damage to 33/108)
Turn 6: :electrode: Switch :crustle: / :sableye: Shadow Ball (106/116)
(Leftovers heal to 113/116)
Turn 7: :crustle: Curse / :sableye: Power Gem (95/116)
(Leftovers heal to 102/116)
Turn 8: :crustle: Curse / :sableye: Power Gem (86/116)
(Leftovers heal to 93/116)
Turn 9: :crustle: Curse / :sableye: Paralyzed
(Leftovers heal to 100/116)
Turn 10: :sableye: Power Gem (84/116) / :crustle: Curse
(Leftovers heal to 91/116)
Turn 11: :sableye: Power Gem (75/116) / :crustle: Curse
(Leftovers heal to 82/116)
Turn 12: :sableye: Power Gem (68/116) / :crustle: Curse
(Leftovers heal to 75/116)
Turn 13: :crustle: Super Potion (heal to full) / :sableye: Power Gem (102/116)
(Leftovers heal to 109/116)
Turn 14: :sableye: Paralyzed / :crustle: X-Scissor (100%)
(Leftovers heal to full.)
Turn 15: :alolanpersian: Fake Out (115/116) / :crustle: Flinch
(Leftovers heal to full.)
Turn 16: :alolanpersian: Power Gem (44/116) / :crustle: X-Scissor (100%)
(Leftovers heal to 51/116)
Turn 17: :crustle: Switch :chatot: / :krokorok: Earthquake (immune)
Turn 18: :chatot: Switch :primeape: / :krokorok: Swagger (Cured with Persim Berry)
Turn 19: :krokorok: Swagger / :primeape: Hit itself (47/108)
Turn 20: :primeape: Switch :chatot: / :krokorok: Earthquake (immune)
Turn 21: :chatot: Hyper Potion (on Turkey :crustle:, heal to full) / :krokorok: Swagger
Turn 22: :chatot: Switch :crustle: / :krokorok: Crunch (79/116)
(Leftovers heal to 86/116)
Turn 23: :krokorok: Swagger (miss) / :crustle: X-Scissor (100%)

What hacks are the trainers using today? Poland's :primeape: base 95 Speed, Jolly nature, and +1 level versus Krokorok's :krokorok: base 74 Speed. Edit: Calculated this after the update too. 102 Speed for Poland :primeape:. Level 38 Krokorok :krokorok:, Jolly nature, 31 IVs, and 252 EVs in Speed: 105 Speed. More competitive nonsense.

Should have left Turkey :crustle: in versus Krokorok :krokorok:. Was afraid of a bad Swagger hit. Worked in the end, at least. Also, Shell Armor > all.

Forgot to grab the Buginium Z earlier. Rectified that. Grabbed the Return and Frustration Technical Machines in Malie City now too. Just unlocked. Taught the former to Ethiopia :tauros:.

Concludes this update. Thank you for reading. Started out rough. Recovered thanks to forming strict plans. Faces the terror of last run next: Hapu. Farewell for now.
