Personality: Although normally easygoing and friendly, Tom has a tendency to latch on to events and words and obsess over them when to everyone else, they were just a passing moment. This is exemplified in his idol worship of Jin Yuichi, who happened to be the Border agent who saved him during the Large-Scale Invasion. He also somewhat tends to keep to himself, despite outwardly seeming very outgoing and friendly, and from the outside looking in seemingly knowing and being friends with absolutely everyone.
Though he does tend to remember names, faces and events very well and can get along with people almost instantly, Tom tends to shy away from making any connections any deeper than say, being a person he would have a friendly conversation with if they found themselves walking somewhere together before separating and not thinking about the other person until they inevitably randomly met again.
Even he has no idea why he does this, but he doesn’t particularly mind. While he doesn’t tend to make any real friends now, he is content with the ones he does have. And it’s not impossible, or even hard to make friends with him as it is now anyway. If someone actually takes the time to think about him other than the times he is simply there and includes him in things out of choice rather than by chance, Tom will happily reciprocate the gesture.
Brief Bio: Tom had a relatively simple life. He’d been born in Cardiff and had lived there his entire life. Just like everyone, he had friends, family, acquaintances, and bullies. But in an instant, that all seemed to change.
He had just been hanging out with his friends after skipping class one day, thoughts of their looming GCSEs locked back far into their minds. Then a black sphere appeared in the sky, and out popped a grey monster that crashed down into the shop they were about to enter, destroying it. All around them, more of those spheres appeared, spawning more of the grey creatures, along with huge white armoured masses and flying grey machine-like things with propellers.
He and his friends tried to run, but Tom managed to trip on some of the debris thrown their way by the monster’s appearance. Sensing this, the creature approached him and prepared to strike – but never got close, as a man Tom later found out to be Jin Yuichi, Border’s former No. 2 Attacker and No. 2 overall agent, bisected it, saving his life. After defending Tom, he left as soon as he appeared, no doubt going to save some other defenceless civilian. Although he had been just doing his job, Jin’s act had left a huge impression on Tom.
Due to Jin, and the appearance of Border, Tom was able to live through the Cardiff Large-Scale Invasion – the third such invasion to have occurred on Earth – safely. However, not everyone was so lucky. Out of his 25 classmates, three were confirmed to be dead and another two had gone missing. One of those missing was his best friend, Nick. Those who had managed to survive still lost out – many of them had lost one or both parents, siblings, other assorted family members or their homes. While the damage was severe however, it was nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
Some of his class began to resent Border for those they failed to protect, thinking that if they had arrived sooner, maybe their brother or dad would still be there. Tom had the entirely opposite opinion. He simply considered the scenario of what would have happened had Border not been there at all. Simply put, if they hadn’t, he certainly would have died, and so probably would have a lot of these people who complained that they didn’t do their jobs properly. It seemed that most of the public, and the government shared this thought process, as it was only in a matter of months that Border became publicly sanctioned to remain in Cardiff permanently, as well as start recruitment there.
When Tom heard about this, he was ecstatic. He quickly noted down the first enrolment day and enlisted at the first possible opportunity. When the time came, he headed to the newly established Cardiff Branch, and with around 400 other trainees, joined Border as their new C-Ranks. Though he had wanted to be an Attacker specialising in Scorpion like his new idol, Jin, it turned out he was actually a Shooting ace, due to his good visualisation skills and relatively high Trion reserves. Once he rose to B-Rank in a month and a half, a rather short time, he also found he was unusually competent at using Composite Bullets, his creation time for them rivalling that of A-Rank agents back at Border’s main H.Q. in Mikado.
Even knowing this though, he refused to let go of his idolization of JIn, choosing to always have Scorpion in his Trigger set despite the fact his Attacker skill wasn’t even close to that of his Shooter skill.
Personality: Conscientious | Incisive | Blunt | Assertive | Insightful | Guarded
At first glance, Evelyn can be highly intimidating to those who don’t know her well, due to her capabilities and sheer intelligence. She can be impassive in her interactions, causing people to mistake her as being arrogant and cold. However, this tends to be more of a defense mechanism when meeting new people, as Evelyn can be quite lively and passionate when she becomes close to someone. It does take a while for her to completely open up, but when she does, Evelyn is incredibly loyal and protective of those she cares about.
That being said, she uses her skills as a shield for her uncertainty and fears of the Neighbors. In battle, Evelyn feels like she is most in control and is therefore most at ease with her surroundings. Furthermore, she tends to use her Side Effect to further distance herself in social situations. She is known for being quite intense in this way, which can further push people away. Evelyn is somewhat content with this, however, since she is comfortable with what is familiar. This is perhaps her greatest weakness: her lack of flexibility and need for control.
In comparison, Evelyn can be quite confident when she feels more at ease, which has been easier since she’s learning more about the world around her. She always strives to learn everything she can, and aims to excel at whatever she applies herself to. Still, Evelyn tends to adjust her personality based on the context, blending in or standing out when called for. In fact, she can be quite charming if needed, due to her skills at reading people and situations. People tend to be confused by her personality shifts and may misread her as hiding behind facades, but those who are close to her understand the reasoning behind it.
In the end, Evelyn’s intentions are always good, but her expression of those intentions may be misguided or come out wrong. Despite this, she aims to understand and can be unexpectedly compassionate. She is intensely aware of her own flaws and strengths, and always works hard at improving her shortcomings - both emotionally, intellectually, and on the battlefield. Because of this, Evelyn is a force to be reckoned with and lives up to her fearsome reputation - whether or not others like her or fear her, it’s not for her to care much about.
Brief Bio: When the first invasion hit Mikado, Evelyn at home with her parents in London when her father got the call. Since she was younger at the time, the whole situation was something completely out of her current understanding. She had never foreseen a future like this, never having understood the probabilities yet. It terrified her, of course, but it also fueled a new curiosity to understand these Neighbors and Trion itself. It was always assumed that the Neighbors would eventually attack outside of Japan, but no one could have foreseen the destruction of the Cardiff invasion.
Evelyn was away at boarding school when the invasion began. When the spheres arrived in the sky, she felt an overwhelming fear take over her like before. The possibility of having an attack at her own home - well, she had ignored it out of sheer hope. There wasn’t a Border branch in Europe at all, and Evelyn was sure that she would die that day - it was all too likely. However, she had eventually found shelter in a sheltered area on the outskirts of the campus, but watched in numb shock as buildings fell, fires burned, and her classmates were wounded or killed.
Luckily for her, her parents had not been killed in the disaster. Her father, a high-ranking politician, was out of the country for a foreign negotiation, while her mother was working a shift at a hospital that was somehow spared. Despite their lives, never in her life had Evelyn felt so helpless and weak than during the Cardiff invasion. Once the aftermath had settled, she swore that she would join Border as soon as she was able and train herself to lose her fear of the Neighbors.
When she learned about the new Cardiff branch, Evelyn told her parents that she would be joining Border on the first enlistment day. Of course, they were strongly against her decision and encouraged her to pursue her academic studies instead. They told her that she wasn’t strong enough to battle the Neighbors - even with her Side Effect, that her intellect would be wasted on the battlefield. The family was at an impassive stalemate for several weeks as the enlistment day loomed closer.
The night before, Evelyn made up her mind to leave home without telling her parents. She had calculated her chances hundreds of times, and knew that she stood a good chance with Border. Evelyn snuck out and made her way to the Cardiff branch before morning. She knew that she would have to face her parents’ wrath eventually, but she knew that her future was with Border and that nothing was going to come between that goal. However, while she was unpacking at a hotel, Evelyn found a note from her mother that said, “We love you, Evelyn. Your father and I knew that we couldn’t stop you from going to Cardiff, but please - stay safe, and don’t forget who you are and what you can do.”
With her parents’ blessing, Evelyn enlisted under her middle name, Ren. She didn’t give any other identifying information that could be traced back to her family, so as to keep them safe if anything were to happen. She started as a C-rank along with everyone else that joined in the first wave, but her skills and determination were quickly recognized by the rest of her peers and the higher-ranked agents. She started as an Attacker and began to gain points easily due to her Side Effect.
After becoming a B-rank in a manner of weeks, Evelyn realized that she was excellent as a Gunner as well, and altered her course to become an All-Rounder soon after. Once she began to build up more points as a Gunner, she was soon asked by a standing A-rank squad to join. Since that time, Evelyn eventually chose to leave her A-rank squad and head out on her own as a solo agent.
Side Effect: Probability Processing, Evelyn can instantaneously calculate the probabilities of outcomes. She must be able to either directly see the person/situation, or she must have a comprehensive understanding of anything that is not in her line of vision in such a way that she can effectively “visualize” it (such as the outcome of a tactical plan).
Personality: Danielle is most comfortable when her hands are being used. Danielle has often throughout her life been skittish and incapable of sitting still, but when her hands are occupied, she can relax and become sharply focused on a task. Danielle often treats people poorly, often citing them as tools to complete objectives, and as such has not earned many herself many friends.
This isn't to say that Danielle is incapable of positive emotions, far from it. Danielle often spends time on her hobbies, and gains enjoyment from these activities. This does also present the opportunity for her to actually communicate with other people outside of work, and is the reason that she is up to date on the casual gossip throughout.
Danielle can be firnedly towards people, especially in a work environment, but it comes across as crass and blunt. Danielle has often been described as lacking a filter, and will say her immediate thoughts on a situation, regardless of the typical repercussions. Danielle has made attempts to use her blunt outlook in a positive light, however; using her blunt hypotheses as an alternate viewpoint.
Brief Bio: Danielle was raised in relative seclusion from the rest of the world, being born in the Lake District. She was born to a rich family, home schooled, and was raised ignorant to the rest of the world. When Danielle finally left the Lake District to find a job, she was confused about why Japan was having border issues. Danielle would often get curious looks at that, so she quickly learned to not bring it up.
Danielle went to university, and was studying Law when the Cardiff Large-Scale Invasion began. As part of a built-in scheme, and thanks in part to her family's wealth, Danielle managed to get a placement in Cardiff Crown Court, and was to attend legal cases to build up work experience. When the black orbs appeared in the sky, and the monsters began raining down, crushing buildings with nary a glance, it horrified Danielle to her core. She had been escorted out of the courthouse, small mercies had left the police contingent safe from the initial impact, and as she sat in a holding cell underground, next to the accused and a member of the jury, her hands began to tremble.
Four hours later, she emerged from the ruins of the courthouse, only to see the devastation in front of her. She learned from a survivor that Border, an agency from Japan, had arrived to fight back to the monsters. Although her hands still trembled, she was filled with resolution. Once the Government finally decided to allow Border to set up a base in Cardiff, she signed up as soon as she was available.
Filed into a hall with 300 other recruits was harrowing, but she worked at it, rising to a B-Rank after being noted for her abilities with a sniper rifle, being designated as Sniper class. Danielle spent more and more time improving her Sniper abilities, finding herself poking into the top 15% rankings occasionally, but not for long enough to promote. Danielle kept at it, working to improve herself to remove these monsters-Neighbours, and finally stop the trembling inside her soul.
Personality:Impulsive and headstrong, Carson always acts first, leaving the thinking for later. Patience isn't a word on Carsons' dictionary; he's constantly looking for something to do, and isn't one to stand in any one place for long. It's easy for him to get caught up in the heat of the moment, which often ends up hurting him in the long run. Regardless, he refuses to stay knocked down for long, since he has persistence and energy to spare, sometimes in a literal sense, as he'll do his best to motivate his friends too.
He might not have the best head on his shoulders, but he makes up for it with heart. For him, the glass is always half full, even if it appears to be empty. No matter what, he'll place others' safety above his own, despite any harm that might come to himself. Even if his personality leads to him getting tricked often, he'll never give up on doing what's right. However, he's also very stubborn, which makes him especially immune to criticism, especially from his peers. The problem is, because of his impulsive attitude, this happens a lot, which makes it difficult for him to properly address his weaknesses.
He's also considerably observant and sensitive to others' emotions; he's happy to join on someone's happiness just as much as he is ready to comfort their anguish. He enjoys simply being around people he likes, and tries to make it so his presence is enjoyable too. Because of that, he tries to hide his own problems from others, since there's nothing he'd hate more then imposing his burdens on his friends. He'd rather deal with his own problems himself, even if sharing them would make their resolution much easier.
Brief Bio: Carson was born and raised in America, where he lived a pretty uneventful life. He grew up wanting to be a superhero, like every young boy, but sometimes he took it too far and got in trouble with people well over his age. However, even after getting hurt, he'd just get back at it the next day. Interestingly, when the Mikado invasion happened, as Carson watched the reports on TV, he rooted for the Border agents without even considering becoming one; he saw that as a world completely apart from his own.
Even if he lived so far away, fate had it to place Carson in Cardiff in that dreadful day. Indeed, he went to visit his older brother, who was working in a hospital there for some time. He had actually been looking forward to that trip for quite a while: not only would it he get to see his busy brother, which in and of itself was rare, but it would also be the first time he traveled outside of America, so he was curious to check out the sights and culture of England.
It was the second day of his visit, and he was walking around the streets of Cardiff, waiting for his brother to get off work so they could spend some time together. He hadn't noticed the black sphere in the sky at first, but a yell coming from behind him made him turn and witness that terrible sight. One by one, spheres started appearing far and wide, and from them, grey creatures emerged. Carson immediately recognized them; how could he not? He had already seen reports of attacks like those in the news, some even happening on his own continent. However, those always seemed so distant, like they would never happen to him.
Because of that, he took some time processing the events occurring in front of him. As people yelled and ran the opposite direction, he couldn't help but think he had to do something. As he saw the big monstrosity at the end of the road slowly making its way through, he made a reckless and overall dumb decision: if no one else wants to do it, then he himself would stand against these invaders!
Carson opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was his brother; sitting in a chair next to his bed; he still hadn't noticed Carson, and continued to go over some kind of report. It seemed they were at the hospital he worked at, or at least, what was left of it, as the big hole in the wall suggested. What followed was to be expected: after the initial happiness, his brother then went full scolding mode, lecturing him about his recklessness for what seemed like hours. From what he was able to discover, it seems Carson's attempt at battling the beast could barely even be called that, as he fainted immediately after being hit in the head with some falling debris from a nearby building. After being promptly detected and removed from the scene by an unknown Border agent, volunteers brought him to the hospital, and the rest was history.
While spending the next few days recovering, Carson realized how real the Neighbours threat was. He had never put himself in that perspective, and thinking about people back home having to deal with a situation like that started to worry him increasingly more. He wanted to be able to do what he wasn't able to: protect people from a threat they weren't able to deal with themselves. Plus, if he successfully became a respectable agent, he would be able to go back to his hometown and make sure it stayed safe against this threat.
It took a lot of convincing to let his brother agree with his request. In the end, he yielded; the chance of him getting caught in another invasion and risking his life again was too big, and that time he might not get as lucky. If he became an agent, at least he would have a way to protect himself.
And so, leaving to his brother the task of convincing their parents, Carson applied and was accepted into C-rank, along with a bunch of other people. Even though he performed well in the entry tests, getting to B-rank would turn out to be quite a challenge. His impulsive nature systematically got him in trouble, so his climb through C-rank was slow. However, through sheer persistence, he managed to eventually rank up as an Attacker, and from there he'd continue working hard so that someday he'll get to A-rank. Even if that day is really, really far away.
Side Effect: Mood Radar- Carson is able to loosely detect basic feelings like happiness, anger or sadness from people's actions and voices. This is clearer the stronger the feeling is, and happens regardless of how well the person tries to hide it.
Personality: Ethan is a cheerful guy, often smiling at other people and doing his best to remember everyone's name. While you might not notice his presence in a conversation right away, the mood and energy drops when he's not around. He's focused more on the smaller and simple parts of friendship, being supportive and doing his best to be someone that people can rely on.
While he tends to be more observant in bigger groups and just make little quips here and there, in one on one situations he's very personal and caring. Part of this is because of how comfortable he is with private conversations due to the personal relationship with his sister, and he carries over the same caring attitude to others. He's a dependable friend who's there whether you need someone to laugh with or a shoulder to cry on.
Despite his friendly appearance, Ethan has had a hard time connecting with other people enough to open up to them himself. His relationship with his twin had always been enough for him to get through rough situations, but after her disappearance he's felt lost and alone. He often internalizes things and makes them seem worse than they are. To other people he seems like a strong soul, pressing forward no matter the circumstance, but in his own mind he's broken and near worthless. People who try to get to know him are met with a wall of avoidance and excuses. This double standard of wanting others to open up to him but being unwilling to open up himself has made most of his friendships into little more than casual acquaintances.
Despite Ethan's quiet nature, his combat sense is far from calm and patient. While he can come up with a decent plan and analyze a situation, he will often lose sight of whatever strategy he had and try to hack up the opponent as fast as possible. While this attitude got him through C-Rank, his B-Rank squad ended up dropping him because of his erratic behavior.
Brief Bio: Ethan was at home with his family when the first invasion hit, and watched much of the destruction on live television. When Border first rushed to the scene to try and respond to the attack, he was touched- these people were risking their lives to fight the unknown. After the invasion ended, despite the damage done to the city, they were heroes. Despite being across the globe and never having actually received help directly, Ethan sent a letter to the group to express his thanks for their service.
As time progressed and Mikado city was used to pull Neighbor invasions to the same place, life started to settle back into its regular pace. Ethan finished high school and began applying to universities with his twin sister Eliza. The two were both accepted to the University of Cardiff, and moved from their home in London to begin their studies. Ethan adjusted to student life quickly, enjoying the social atmosphere and freedom that comes with living on your own.
He was in class when the Cardiff invasion began, absentmindedly doodling during a particularly boring lecture. A crash shook the ground as a Trion Soldier landed outside the building, and suddenly the world started to fall apart. Ethan was trapped as the building collapsed, left alone in a small space with his leg pinned beneath a slap of concrete. However, this proved to be his saving grace, as he was hidden out of sight from the attacking Neighbors. Within a few hours Border agents combed through the area and found him, and while his leg was hurt he didn't seem to have sustained any major injuries.
In the aftermath of the invasion, Ethan's sister was never found. Ethan and Liza had been best friends their whole lives, and while they had branched out in uni, they had talked every day without fail. Losing her was worse than any of the other destruction the invasion brought. Ethan struggled to move through the tragedy, putting on a strong face for those around him but never feeling as fine as he said he was. When Border announced that they would be opening a branch in Cardiff, he immediately put his name down as a candidate. Spurred by his love for the organization and using combat as a way to fight through his grief, he rose from the trainee C-Rank to become an actual agent at the B-Rank.
Side Effect: Night Vision. Ethan has the ability to see in the dark, although he hasn't been able to describe exactly how it works. He can tell that there's an absence of light, and can discern things like color, depth, appearance, etc. without needing any light source.
yo so uh all of u are accepted the only reel thing I have to say is that @Franciscosta carson's side effect is very similar to Masato Kageura's so u can change it if u like other than that I have realised that I really don't want to go through doing this on a forum so we will do what all the cool kids are and will do dis on discord when I can be bothered to make one ok cheers bye
