Welcome to Galar 2020, a Pokemon Sword challenge run with Wonder Cards and random Pokemon.

What is this challenge? Runs through Pokemon Sword with Pokemon chosen at random. Added in effects via Wonder Cards to keep things interesting. Draws additional Wonder Cards based on what spectators want.

What is the theme? The Olympics. Suited the sports vibe from Sword/Shield. Admits to not being particularly well-versed in the Olympics or sports in general. Do not be surprised by the occasional error, in that regard.

Selected 38 Pokemon at random. Sent them to the new save file via Home. Bred as many as possible with two Dittos (one foreign, one not, and both with four perfect Individual Values). Acquired regional forms requiring an Everstone by breeding on an established save file with the same Dittos. Did not use the Destiny Knot or Everstone otherwise.

Brought in a Chandelure for protection while breeding, money grinding, and egg hatching. Returned it and the other Pokemon used for breeding back to their original save files afterwards. Kept the eggs.

Permitted Pokemon outside the challenge to assist in leveling the starting party to level 10. Boxed them afterward.
Draws one random Wonder Card at the start of each whole-numbered update (except 0). Carries out the effects listed on those cards. Supersedes the rules written here, unless specifically stated. Draws more based on the audience's wishes.

Places any "Retired" Pokemon in the PC. Cannot participate in the main challenge. Permits them to help level new Pokemon up to the previous update's level limit, however.

- Victory condition: Become Champion of Galar.
- Team Size: Begins with three Pokemon. Expands to four after the first checkpoint (Grass gym), five after the third checkpoint (Fire gym), and a full team of six after the fifth checkpoint (Faerie gym).
- Naming theme: Olympic sports.
- Item limit: Three per battle. Does not count Pokeballs towards this number.
- Item restrictions: One Leftovers maximum. No X-items or Revives in battle.
- Shop restrictions: Cannot purchase Technical Records.
- Pokemon Camp: Only for Friendship evolutions.
- Dynamaxing: Allowed.
- Max Raids: Allowed. Cannot consume Dynamax Candies and Technical Records, however.
- Pokejobs: For experience only. Will send the Pokemon not in yet also to come in at a decent level.
- Travel restrictions: Cannot cross the bridge towards Hammerlocke until after clearing the third gym (except for breeding).
- Battle style: Set.
- Perma-death: No.
- Trade Evolutions: No.
- In-game Trades: No.

Level limit: Yes. Must deposit any Pokemon that exceeds the limit. Measures it based on entering the gym challenge. May still be used if they go over this limit during the gym challenge.
- Milo: 20
- Nessa: 24
- Kabu: 27
- Bea: 35
- Opal: 37
- Gordie: 41
- Piers: 45
- Raihan: 47
- Oleana: 54
- Leon: 65
(Subtracted one from the gym leader's ace for gyms 4-8, due to experience from the gym challenge. Provided wiggle room for Oleana, given tons of unavoidable trainer battles.)

Other rules
- Must choose between using Shedinja and Ninjask.
- Ignores Wonder Card effects while training new party members to the appropriate level.
- May add any shiny Pokemon to the supply of possible Pokemon.
- May choose to retire the entire party in the event of wiping three times to a given challenge. Clears all Wonder Card effects upon doing so. Draws 1 Wonder Card, plus half the number drawn this update, rounded down.
Created a spreadsheet of most breedable Pokemon. (Could not quite get some old regional forms in time. Grabbed some new options from Home, such as the Alolan starters.) Picked 38 Pokemon at random without repeats. Applied no other restrictions.

Named all Pokemon in advance. Assigned each sport their relevant characteristics. Knew too little to be certain of some being appropriate, even with research. Intends to keep them as-is, even if incorrect.
Split Wonder Cards into five categories: Negative, Retire, Positive, Other, and Legendary. Presumes the first four to be self-explanatory. Labeled cards with big effects as "Legendary". Removes a Legendary card from the deck upon drawing AND applying them.

Determines the Wonder Card through a random number generator. Picks between 1 and 105 for full random cards. Restricts it to 1-30 for a Negative card, 31-55 for Positive, 55-75 for Retire, and 76-100 for Other. Obtains Legendary cards solely through full random cards.

Draws a new card if the current card is not possible to fulfill. Redraws in the event of getting a card twice in the same update AND not having a stacking effect. (Example: Grabs a new card for a second "Relay Race", but not for "Overspecialization".)

Note: Treats Pokemon with "Both" listed as eligible targets for either characteristic, for the purposes of Wonder Cards.

Order of drawing: Retire -> Other -> Negative -> Positive -> Random.

Listed all possible cards below.

Negative
(1-3) Distracting Vuvuzelas: Delete one move on half of the party members of your choice (rounded down). Cannot access the move relearner or use Technical Machines on those Pokemon during this update.

(4-5) Relay Race: Specify the order of Pokemon. May only switch between Pokemon in this order for the rest of this update. Does not persist between battles. May alter the order between battles.

(6-8) Only as Fast: Look at all Team Pokemon. Give Full Incense to all of them except the Pokemon with the lowest Speed.

(9-12) Showboating: Cannot Dynamax this update. Permits it for Max Raids still.

(13-14) Overspecialization: Select a random Pokemon. Pick one move. Delete all the others. Cannot remember moves on this Pokemon or give it Technical Machines for the remainder of the update. May still learn and keep level-up moves.

(15-17) False Start: Switch Pokemon on the first turn of the checkpoint battle.

(18-20) Underdogs: Decrease the level limit by 1. Redraw if this puts any Pokemon below the limit.

(21-23) Teamwork?: Cancels "Teamwork!" if it is active, If not, pair up all Team and Both Pokemon randomly. May only switch within pairs. Cannot switch into or out of Individual Pokemon, except due to fainting. Treat any unpaired Team/Both Pokemon as an Individual Pokemon.

(23-26) No Guts, No Glory: Select two random Pokemon. Must begin the checkpoint battle with the status effect of your choice.

(27-30) Healthy Eating: Must use bitter healing items instead of normal healing items for the remainder this update.

Positive
(31-32) One for All: Choose an Individual Pokemon. Cannot use any Bag items on them in-battle. Do not count the first item used on each other party member towards the item limit each battle. May opt to refuse this card. Cannot redraw unless no eligible Pokemon are on the team, however.

(33-34) Teamwork!: Cancels out "Teamwork?" if it is active. Otherwise, change the battle style to Switch.

(35-36) Cool Summer Breeze: Play with all Summer Pokemon at camp for exactly four minutes. Raise the level limit by 1 for them for this update.

(37-38) Warming Curry: Cook one dish at your camp for all Winter Pokemon. Raise the level limit by 1 for them for this update.

(39-41) Free McDonalds: Cook one dish at your camp for the entire party.

(42-44) The Life of an Athlete: Send the entire team on Effort Value training Pokejobs for twelve hours at the end of the update. Redraw if this is the final update OR if they are not available.

(45-46) On the Podium: Complete a Max Raid battle. Keep all the rewards.

(47-49) Souvenir Stand: Buy one dig from both Digging Duo siblings.

(50-52) Tipping the Scales: Select the heaviest OR tallest Objective Pokemon. Nullify all Negative and Retire effects on them during this update and the next. Do not redraw those Negative or Retire cards if it completely negates them.

(53-54) Crowd Favorite: Identify the most popular Judge Pokemon from this list. (Use original forms for Galarian form Pokemon. Omit Galarian Pokemon otherwise.) Play with them in camp until you see hearts. Permanently increase their level limit by 1.

(55) Host Country Advantage: Check one Watt Trader. For every Galarian team member, purchase one Technical Record for immediate use (if desired). Redraw if you have no Galarian Pokemon.

Retire
(56-59) Season-ending Injury: Select a random Pokemon. Retire it at the end of the next battle where it takes any damage.

(60-61) Intense Heat: Retire a random Summer Pokemon.

(62-63) Blizzard: Retire a random Winter Pokemon.

(64-65) Biased Kanto Judge: Check the Individual Values of all Judge Pokemon. Award 2 points per Decent, 4 per Pretty Good, 6 per Very Good, 7 per Fantastic, and 10 for Best. Subtract four points from all non-Kanto Pokemon. Retire the Pokemon with the lowest score.

(66-67) Green Waters: Retire all aquatic-based sport Pokemon. Redraw if no Pokemon are retired.

(68-70) Underhanded Tactics: Retire the Objective Pokemon with highest Speed.

(71-73) Equal Representation: Retire Pokemon such that each region is represented only once. (Pick which of the 2+ Pokemon is retired randomly.) Replace them with a random Pokemon from an unrepresented region. Redraw if no Pokemon are retired.

(74) The Weakest Link: Look at all Team Pokemon. Retire the Pokemon with the lowest stat total among them.

(75) Talent Scouting: Retire a random Pokemon. Add one of your choice to the team.

Other
(76-79) Raihan's Rule: Hit the screenshot button whenever you Dynamax.

(80-81) Triathalon: Start a stopwatch. Run from Meetup Spot to Motostoke. Complete a Rotom Rally from there to Hammerlocke. Climb to the top of the Lake of Outrage. Shake five trees instead, if the surf feature is unavailable. Redraw if the Bike is not available.

(82-83) The Best of the Best: Defeat one strong-looking Pokemon.

(84-85) Traffic Jams Everywhere: Delay all remaining Wonder Cards until next update. Add one full random if this number is zero. Redraw if this is the final update.

(86-88) Rookie Card: Choose all trainer card options randomly, whenever possible. Print it.

(89-92) Ready for the Cameras: Purchase a random hairstyle. Purchase and wear at least two new clothing items.

(93-95) Fill in the Blanks: Describe content that could have been seen or visited in this update.

(96-98) With Bated Breath: Draw three full random Wonder Cards. Choose two to enact. Must use any legendary cards. Discard the unused card.

(99) Cutting Corners: Remove the previous six unique Wonder Cards from the deck permanently, as well as this card. Redraw if six unique cards have not been applied yet.

(100) The Kiss and Cry Area: Double all points from audience participation next update. Do it for this update if this is the final update. Triple the points instead if this card is applied a second time. Cannot stack higher than that.

Legendary
(101) All for One: Select one Individual Pokemon. Deposit all others until the checkpoint battle. Ignore the level limit on the lone Pokemon.

(102) Torch Ceremony: For this update:
1. Teach as many dance and sound-based moves as possible to all but one random Pokemon.
2. Give an item unique to Galar to all of the singers and dancers. Give the random Pokemon a Flame Orb (or fire-related item, if unable). Overwrite other forced held items, if necessary. Cannot be removed due to other Wonder Cards.
3. Must bring in all Pokemon during the next checkpoint battle.

(103) Doping Scandal: Retire the entire party.

(104) Roar of the Crowd: Put up a poll of all party Pokemon. Attain maximum friendship on the winner. Cannot be retired or deposited for any reason (including the level limit) during this update and the next. Must lead with them during the checkpoint battle AND be present when that trainer's final Pokemon faints.

(105) The True Test: Draw twice as many cards next update. Draw one Negative, Positive, Retire, and Other card if this is the final update.

Audience Participation
Gives all of you some sway over this challenge. Draws additional cards based on your whims. Post OR use a reaction to indicate what you want. Listed what each reaction corresponds to below.

:surprisedazurill:: 1 random Wonder Card
:thonkazurill:: 1 Negative Point
❤: 1 Positive Point
:sadazurill:: 1 Retire Point
:hmmazurill:: 1 Other Point

Draws a specific card type (such as Negative) for every three points in that category. Carries over between updates.

Counts any post or reaction on the most recent whole-numbered update (including Update 0). (May post tiny updates to notify everyone about a poll or delay. Labels those as 2.5 or something similar.)

Note: Checks for posts/reactions prior to playing AND before the gym challenge. Saves any Wonder Cards from new posts/reactions between clearing the checkpoint and posting the update for the start of the next update.

Concludes all of the challenge particulars. Apologies for the flood of information. Specifies as much as possible in advance. Cuts down on subjective interpretations.

Random character: 1. Top left male character.

Named them Bela, after Béla Károlyi. Coached numerous Olympic gymnasts. Definitely suits a Pokemon trainer.

Random starter: 1. Grookey :grookey:.

High-fived them. Sent Sobble :sobble: to Hop and Scorbunny :scorbunny: to Leon.

Cut to a Fletchling weather vane to show the passage of time. Seems odd, given no Fletchlings in Galar.

Raced through the opening sections. Sees no point in detailing them. Has not started the actual challenge yet.

Reached the Wild Area. Constructed a daycare there. Moved a bunch of Pokemon through Pokemon Home. Discovered that hold items cannot be transferred. Complicated regional forms a bit. Did not plan to use the Destiny Knot and Everstone regularly, at least.

Scrounged up breeding cash through Max Raids and the random NPCs. Cannot toss Dynamax Candies, evidently. Will have to write down the number of Dynamax Candies received for a certain Wonder Card, apparently.

Hatched and named everyone. No shinies, sadly. Arrives at the fun part, though: discovering the starting party. Notes that random numbers correspond to however they are in boxes, not on the list up above.

Random numbers: 24, 20, and 13.

Martial Arts the Axew :axew::ultraball:
Level: 1
Ability: Rivalry
Nature: Bashful (neutral)
Moves: Scratch and Leer

Weightlift the Elgyem :elgyem::ultraball:
Level: 1
Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Adamant (+Attack / -Special Attack) (bleh)
Moves: Confusion and Growl

Water Polo the Wailmer :wailmer::ultraball:
Level: 1
Ability: Water Veil
Nature: Lonely (+Attack / -Defense)
Moves: Splash

Leveled everyone to 10 with experience candies from money grinding. (Planned to use Grookey or Chandelure to assist on that. Saved time.)

Sent three Normal-types on a Pokejob for experience. Opted for a half-day to gauge the amount received.

Play time: 3:21. Better than Moon. Includes the bulk of the breeding process too.

Concludes all the action for this update. Wishes to discuss changes from previous Wonder Card challenges before ending it, however.

Change 1: Screenshots. Say farewell to bad phone pictures.
Galar 2020 Trainer Card 1.png

Integrated a convenient way to capture and transfer images. Intends to use it, at least occasionally.

Change 2: Wonder Card category rebalancing.

Reduced the odds of Negative cards. Allocated the resulting void to Positive and Other. Equalized the points for a specific card type too.

Why? Works with far less powerful Pokemon this generation. Did not spend hundreds of hours turning every Pokémon into a super soldier straight from the egg. (Does not intend to later either.) Knows less about this generation too. Deemed it prudent to ease up a little.

Change 3: Hatched all the eggs this update.

Lost a little (personal) suspense. Traded it for bringing in new Pokemon at a higher level. Typically spends a fair chunk of time training up fresh Pokemon. Became doubly important due to losing access to Lucky Eggs AND the permanent Experience Share.

Said everything worth saying now (and then some). Thank you for reading. Farewell until next update.

Appreciates the reaction. Looks like just the base full random card today.

Random number: 20
(18-20) Underdogs: Decrease the level limit by 1. Redraw if this puts any Pokemon below the limit.

Drops the level limit to 19. Chose a good update for that. Barely inches up between some gym leaders.

Looked up Martial Arts's :axew: moveset. Evidently removed Dragon Rage entirely this generation. Would have been amazing at level 10 (Generation 7). Made up for it in other ways. Will understand later this update.

Brought back the three from the half-day Pokejob. Gained only 302 experience on a high result. Reached level 6 on all of them. Shuts down any worries of overdoing it.

Strolled around the Wild Area for a few nice items: Tail Slap TM, Bulldoze TM, Leftovers, and a Thunder Stone. Welcomed Bulldoze for Water Polo :wailmer:.

Completed some Max Raids for experience. Paid off better or as well as normal wild Pokemon (1300 experience from candies). Cannot imagine using these Technical Records willy-nilly, though. Picked up Waterfall, Dragon Claw, Shadow Ball, Zen Headbutt, Seed Bomb, Leech Life, Dazzling Gleam, and Tri Attack. Blows away level-up moves.

On that note, a free Focus Energy Technical Record from an NPC. Allows that to be used.

Forgot about the uniform number. Decided on 202, as something close to 2020.

Just noticed these statues at the stadium.
Galar 2020 Gym Statues.png

Kept the tradition of these in gyms alive.

Forked over lots of cash at the Technical Machine store. Bought Reflect, Light Screen, and Round. Taught all three to Weightlift :elgyem:.

First noteworthy battle: Hop. Level 13 all around :wailmer::elgyem::axew:. Levels 11-14 for Hop's team.

Galar 2020 Hop 3.png

Turn 1: :wailmer: Water Gun (50%) / :wooloo: Tackle (critical, 45/57)
(Leftovers heal to 48/57)
Turn 2: :wailmer: Water Gun (45%) / :wooloo: Growl
(Leftovers heal to 51/57)
Turn 3: :wooloo: Potion (heal to 75%) / :wailmer: Water Gun (50%)
(Leftovers heal to 54/57)
Turn 4: :wailmer: Water Gun (the rest)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to full.)
Turn 5: :sobble: Pound (55/61) / :wailmer: Bulldoze (25%, -1 Speed)
(Leftovers heal to 58/61)
Turn 6: :wailmer: Bulldoze (22%, -1 Speed) / :sobble: Pound (52/61)
(Leftovers heal to 55/61)
Turn 7: :wailmer: Bulldoze (25%, -1 Speed) / :sobble: Growl
(Leftovers heal to 58/61)
Turn 8: :wailmer: Switch :elgyem: / :sobble: Bind (39/41)
(Bind damage to 34/41)
Turn 9: :elgyem: Confusion (the rest)
Turn 10: :rookidee: Peck (28/41) / :elgyem: Confusion (60%, confused)
Turn 11: :rookidee: Leer / :elgyem: Confusion (the rest)

Not even remotely dangerous.

Please explain why you can never go to this power plant.
Galar 2020 Power Plant.jpg

First a Pay Day Technical Machine, now Beat Up? Why even bother? Should have made it a Wonder Card to force these to be used. (Cannot learn them on anyone, though.)

Slash at level 15 for Martial Arts :axew:? Wow. Knew about something better in a bit. Missed this. Really insisted on paying you back for no Dragon Rage.

Next noteworthy trainer: Bede. Levels 16 :axew::elgyem: and 17 :wailmer: for the team. Levels 13-16 for Bede's team.

Galar 2020 Bede 1.png

Turn 1: :axew: Bite (100%) / :solosis::faintedazurill:
Turn 2: :axew: Bite (65%) / :hatenna: Disarming Voice (27/45)
Turn 3: :axew: Bite (the rest)
Turn 4: :axew: Bite (50%) / :gothita: Tickle
Turn 5: :axew: Bite (45%) / :gothita: Flinched
Turn 6: :axew: Bite (critical, the rest)

Pays attention to gender much more, thanks to Martial Arts's :axew: Rivalry. Male, for the record.

...Really expected a child dressed as a Pikachu :pikachu: to have one. Fought with Joltik :joltik: and Grubbin :grubbin:.

Acquired much better Technical Machines (Rock Blast, Pin Missile, and Brutal Swing). Learns none of them, per usual. Would have liked that middle one on someone.

Coughs. Okay. Why is level 18 the magical level? Learned Dragon Claw on Martial Arts :axew:, Water Pulse on Water Polo :wailmer:, and Psybeam for Weightlift :elgyem:. (Yes, Dragon Claw at 18. Learns it 10 levels earlier than in Generation 7. Straight amazing for this challenge.)

Entered the gym challenge one level earlier than necessary. Did so for testing. Defeated the first trainer. Exited and reentered the challenge. Needed to wrangle Wooloos :wooloo: again. Did not need to battle the trainer again. Good information for future challenges.

Please stop sending in female Pokemon. Turns Martial Arts :axew: into an awkward mess or something.

Time for the gym. Level 19 on everyone :axew::wailmer::elgyem:. No particular plan here, other than Dragon Claw like mad.
Galar 2020 Gym 1.jpg

Turn 1: :axew: Dragon Claw (90%) / :gossifleur: Magical Leaf (44/52)
Turn 2: :axew: Dragon Claw (the rest)
(Dynamaxed Martial Arts :axew: and Eldegoss :eldegoss:.)
Turn 3: :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (40%, -1 Attack) / :eldegoss: Max Strike (25/75, -1 Speed) (Oran Berry heal to 35/78)
Turn 4: :eldegoss: Max Overgrowth (27/75) (Grassy Terrain active) / :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (45%, -1 Attack)
(Grassy Terrain heal to 30/78)
Turn 5: :axew: Soda Pop (heal to full) / :eldegoss: Max Overgrowth (69/78)
(Grass Terrain heal to 72/78)
(Dynamax over for both :axew::eldegoss:)
Turn 6: :eldegoss: Round (25/52) / :axew: Dragon Claw (the rest)

Legitmately forgot that items were an option briefly. Accepted losing Martial Arts :axew: after the Max Strike. (Should have, if Milo was smarter.)

Appreciated two male Pokemon on the opposing side, also.

Earned the badge and the Magical Leaf Technical Machine (for no one). May seem like Martial Arts :axew: did everything this update. Attributes half of it to type matchups. Credits the other half to their glacial leveling speed. Leveled at almost the exact rate as Water Polo :wailmer: earning 50% experience on the sidelines.

Proceeds to Hulbury and the Water Gym next. Thank you for reading and for the reaction, once again. Farewell for now.

Edit: Forgot to grab a new team member. Will do that at the start of next update, before the card draw(s).

Martial Arts the Axew :axew:
Level: 19
Ability: Rivalry
Moves: Slash, Dragon Claw, Bite, and Taunt

Weightlift the Elgyem :elgyem:

Ability: Synchronize
Moves: Psybeam, Reflect, Round, and Light Screen

Only the base random card today.

But first, a new team member. Increased to four after beating the first gym.

Random number: 6.

Skateboard the Toxel :toxel::ultraball:
Level: 19
Ability: Rattled
Nature: Bashful (neutral)
Moves: Nuzzle, Tearful Look, Round, and Acid
Stats: 50 HP / 23 Atk / 19 Def / 31 SpAtk / 20 SpDef / 21 Speed

Was excited at first. Added an Electric type just before the Water gym. Stinks until its evolution at 30, though. Cannot do much with 242 base stat points. (For reference, a bit higher than Pichu :pichu: (205) or Caterpie :caterpie: (195), but much less than Pikachu :pikachu: (320).) Knows jack for moves too.

Now for that Wonder Card.

Random number: 36.
(35-36) Cool Summer Breeze: Play with all Summer Pokemon at camp for exactly four minutes. Raise the level limit by 1 for them for this update.

Includes every party member. (Not unsurprising. Consists mainly of Summer events.) Pushes the level limit up to 25 for the entire team.

Set a timer for four minutes. Wound up being about perfect. Waves the feather for two Pokemon at a time. Finished with Water Polo :wailmer: and Martial Arts :axew: (plus talking) at about the halfway point.

Galar 2020 Summer Camp2.png

Leads off this section of game with a double battle versus the reporter team.

Turn 1: :axew: Dragon Claw (at :helioptile:, 100%) / :helioptile::faintedazurill: / :wailmer: Bulldoze (:axew: 43/54, :klink: 55%) / :klink: Charge Beam (at :wailmer:, 63/83)
(Leftovers heal to 68/83)
Turn 2: :wailmer: Water Pulse (the rest)

Always expects them to be worse.

Learned Heavy Slam on Water Polo :wailmer: at 21. Lacks good opportunities at present (Water gym this update, Fire gym next update). Weighs a hefty 286.6 pounds (130 kilograms). Ought to be high power. Certainly tops Astonish.

Smirks. Found that opportunity next trainer. Turned a Cutiefly :cutiefly: into paste.

Time for another Hop battle. Level 21 across the board :wailmer::axew::toxel::elgyem:.

Galar 2020 Hop 4.png

Turn 1: :wailmer: Water Pulse (75%, confusion) / :wooloo: Hit itself (10%)
Turn 2: :wailmer: Heavy Slam (the rest)
Turn 3: :corvisquire: Peck (72/87) / :wailmer: Water Pulse (45%, confusion)
(Leftovers heal to 77/87)
Turn 4: :corvisquire: Hit itself (15%) / :wailmer: Heavy Slam (the rest)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to 85/90.)
Turn 5: :wailmer: Switch :axew: / :drizzile: Growl
Turn 6: :drizzile: Growl / :axew: Dragon Claw (critical, 100%)

Absolute domination. Feels sort of bad for Hop's terrible luck.

Arrived at Hulbury. Opens up some new hold item options: Shell Bell, Magnet, and incenses. Favors Oran Berries and Leftovers over them, however.

Entered the gym challenge at levels 22-23, several below the limit. Already cleared out the trainers on Route 5. Candied up to 24 before Nessa. Chose not to go to 25, given the level limit next update (27). Picked up Crunch on Martial Arts :axew: and Brine on Water Polo :wailmer: too.

Strategy: Start with Weightlift :elgyem:. Set up Reflect (and maybe Light Screen before that). Switch to Martial Arts :axew:. Dragon Claw everything.

Galar 2020 Nessa.png

Turn 1: :goldeen: Water Pulse (54/67) / :elgyem: Light Screen
Turn 2: :goldeen: Horn Attack (43/67) / :elgyem: Psybeam (55%)
Turn 3: :goldeen: Horn Attack (31/67) (Oran Berry heal to 41/67) / :elgyem: Reflect
Turn 4: :goldeen: Water Pulse (35/67) / :elgyem: Psybeam (the rest)
Turn 5: :elgyem: Switch :axew: / :arrokuda: Bite (57/63)
(Light Screen down.)
Turn 6: :axew: Dragon Claw (65%) / :arrokuda: Whirlpool (51/63)
(Whirlpool damage to 44/63)
Turn 7: :axew: Dragon Claw (the rest)
(Reflect down.)
(Dynamaxed Martial Arts :axew: and Drednaw :drednaw:)
Turn 8: :drednaw: Max Strike (22/94, -1 Speed) (Oran Berry heal to 32/94) / :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (35%, -1 Attack)
Turn 9: :axew: Lemonade (Heal to full) / :drednaw: Max Strike (68/94, -1 Speed)
Turn 10: :drednaw: Max Darkness (46/94, -1 SpDef) / :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (40%, -1 Attack)
(Dynamax over for both :axew::drednaw:.)
Turn 11: :drednaw: Water Gun (19/63) / :axew: Dragon Claw (the rest)

Thank goodness for male Drednaw :drednaw:. Accepted the gym badge and the Whirlpool Technical Machine.

Interesting stat sidenotes: Equal Attack and Special Attack stats for Water Polo :wailmer: (46/46) and Weightlift :elgyem: (42/42). Noticed Skateboard :toxel: to be the lowest on the team in every single stat except Special Attack. Beat Martial Arts :axew: in that. Why do they have to be terrible until level 30?

Finishes this update. Thanks for reading. Circles back around to Motostoke and Kabu, the Fire gym leader, next time. Do not be misled by the battles thus far. Brings the heat. Farewell for now.

Martial Arts the Axew :axew:
Level: 24
Ability: Rivalry
Moves: Slash, Dragon Claw, Crunch, and Taunt
Stats: 63 HP / 53 Atk / 36 Def / 23 SpAtk / 27 SpDef / 41 Speed

Weightlift the Elgyem :elgyem:
Level: 24
Ability: Synchronize
Moves: Psybeam, Reflect, Round, and Light Screen
Stats: 67 HP / 42 Atk / 36 Def / 42 SpAtk / 34 SpDef / 28 Speed

Water Polo the Wailmer :wailmer:
Level: 24
Ability: Water Veil
Moves: Water Pulse, Brine, Heavy Slam, and Bulldoze
Stats: 98 HP / 46 Atk / 26 Def / 46 SpAtk / 25 SpDef / 39 Speed

Skateboard the Toxel :toxel:
Level: 24
Ability: Rattled
Moves: Nuzzle, Tearful Look, Round, and Acid
Stats: 60 HP / 28 Atk / 23 Def / 38 SpAtk / 24 SpDef / 26 Speed

Two full random cards today. Thanks for the reaction.

Random number: 7.
(6-8) Only as Fast: Look at all Team Pokemon. Give Full Incense to all of them except the Pokemon with the lowest Speed.

Did not foresee this. Only has one "Team" Pokemon (Water Polo :wailmer:). Classified the rest as Individual (Martial Arts :axew:, Weightlift :elgyem:, and Skateboard :toxel:.) Deems this card not applied, since nobody got a Full Incense. Redraw.

Random number: 105. Legendary Card
(105) The True Test: Draw twice as many cards next update. Draw one Negative, Positive, Retire, and Other card if this is the final update.

Hm. May not affect much, given the low number of reactions. Expected more when writing this.

Random number: 85.
(84-85) Traffic Jams Everywhere: Delay all remaining Wonder Cards until next update. Add one full random if this number is zero. Redraw if this is the final update.

Adds one card to the next update. Will be doubled. Sweet Arceus :arceus:. What a combination. Definitely never envisioned this.

Begins this update with a meal at a seafood restaurant. Got the Retaliate Technical Machine out of it. Recently learned about a Lucky Egg here. Must not be available quite yet, however.

Pedaled into Galar Mine No. 2. Met Bede there immediately for today's first rival fight.

Galar 2020 Bede 2.png

Turn 1: :axew: Crunch (100%) / :solosis::faintedazurill:
Turn 2: :axew: Crunch (75%) / :gothita: Psybeam (39/63)
Turn 3: :axew: Crunch (the rest)
Turn 4: :axew: Switch :wailmer: / :ponyta: Fairy Wind (88/98)
(Leftovers heal to 94/98)
Turn 5: :ponyta: Confusion (critical, 67/98) / :wailmer: Heavy Slam (60%)
(Leftovers heal to 73/98)
Turn 6: :ponyta: Confusion (55/98) / :wailmer: Heavy Slam (the rest)
(Leftovers heal to 61/98)
Turn 7: :wailmer: Heavy Slam (65%) / :hatenna: Psybeam (31/98)
(Leftovers heal to 37/98)
Turn 8: :wailmer: Heavy Slam (the rest)

A convincing win, but not a pushover.

Recorded a Team Yell double battle with Hop as a partner. Remembered this one being a little tough.

Hop's (partner) team: :wooloo::corvisquire:
Enemy team: :galarianlinoone::thievul::pancham::liepard:

Turn 1: :galarianlinoone: Sand Attack (at :wooloo:) / :thievul: Tail Whip / :wailmer: Bulldoze (:wooloo: 24/51, :galarianlinoone: 20%, :thievul: 25%) / :wooloo: Defense Curl
Turn 2: :wailmer: Bulldoze (:wooloo: 4/51, :galarianlinoone: 30%, :thievul: 30%) / :galarianlinoone: Sand Attack (at :wooloo: / :thievul: Snarl (:wailmer: 81/102, :wooloo: 0/51 :faintedazurill:)
(Leftovers heal to 87/102)
Turn 3: :corvisquire: Pluck (at :galarianlinoone:, 25%) / :wailmer: Bulldoze (:galarianlinoone: the rest :faintedazurill:, :thievul: 25%) / :thievul: Tail Whip
(Leftovers heal to 93/102)
Turn 4: :corvisquire: Pluck (at :pancham:, 60%) / :wailmer: Bulldoze (:thievul: the rest :faintedazurill:, :pancham: 35%) / :pancham: Arm Thrust (at :wailmer:, 63/102)
(Leftovers heal to 69/102)
Turn 5: :liepard: Fury Swipes (at :corvisquire:, 40/62) / :corvisquire: Pluck (40%?) / :wailmer: Bulldoze (:liepard: 40%, :pancham: the rest :faintedazurill:)
(Leftovers heal to 75/102)
Turn 6: :corvisquire: Pluck (the rest)

Hates Hop's Wooloo :wooloo:. Always leads with it in partner double battles. Rarely accomplishes anything.

Boxed Water Polo :wailmer: temporarily to keep them okay on experience. Reached level 26 already (limit at 27) with Marnie later. Will return for that fight.

"Now, I'm cream-crackered!" What? Evidently glossed over this in previous playthroughs (or forgot about it). Understands the phrase's meaning from context (exhausted). Finds it strange, nonetheless.

Made it (back) to Motostoke in short order. Battles Marnie here. Barely survived in the monotype. Currently at level 26 for everyone :elgyem::toxel::axew::wailmer:.

Strategy: Lead with Weightlift :elgyem: and hope for a Croagunk :croagunk: lead. Might know Sucker Punch. Will have to deal with it, if so. No plan besides that.

Galar 2020 Marnie 1.png

Turn 1: :croagunk: Sucker Punch (42/72) / :elgyem: Psybeam (100%)
Turn 2: :elgyem: Switch :wailmer: / :scraggy: Headbutt (79/105)
(Leftovers heal to 85/105)
Turn 3: :wailmer: Brine (48%) / :scraggy: Low Kick(?) (28/105)
(Leftovers heal to 34/105)
Turn 4: :wailmer: Switch :axew: / :scraggy: Low Kick (49/67)
Turn 5: :axew: Dragon Claw (50%) / :scraggy: Headbutt (30/67) (Oran Berry heal to 40/67)
Turn 6: :scraggy: Super Potion (heal to full) / :axew: Dragon Claw (48%)
Turn 7: :axew: Slash (30%) / :scraggy: Headbutt (20/67)
Turn 8: :axew: Dragon Claw (critical, the rest)
Turn 9: :axew: Soda Pop (heal to full) / :morpeko: Bite (34/67)
Turn 10: :axew: Lemonade (on :wailmer:, heal to 104/105) / :morpekohangry: Bite (3/67)
Turn 11: :axew: Lemonade (heal to full, final item) / :morpeko: Quick Attack (52/67)
Turn 12: :morpekohangry: Bite (24/67) / :axew: Dragon Claw (45%)
Turn 13: :axew: Switch :wailmer: / :morpeko: Bite (59/105)
(Leftovers heal to 65/105)
Turn 14: :morpekohangry: Bite (19/105) / :wailmer: Bulldoze (50%)
(Leftovers heal to 25/105)
Turn 15: :morpeko: Bite (0/105 :wailmer::faintedazurill:)
Turn 16: :axew: Dragon Claw (the rest)

Could not prevent Water Polo :wailmer: going down. Expected a Bite. Could not take it and retaliate on anyone. Hoped for either Quick Attack or to outspeed it at -1 (unlikely with its base 97 Speed). Would have been in severe trouble if Martial Arts :axew: did not outspeed it. Comes down to Skateboard :toxel: surviving a Bite and not flinching in that case. (Might outspeed after a Rattled boost, though.)

Prepared for Kabu by buying new pants and getting a trim hair extensions. Will not bother with the screenshot this time.

Bought more Lemonades. Candied up to 27. Acquired an excellent move on Martial Arts :axew:: Dragon Dance. Almost ruined this plan with the Full Incense wonder card.

But first, the gym challenge. Appreciated Water Polo :wailmer: here for sure. Brough Water Veil (no burn) as a nice bonus. Resisted three Will-O-Wisps.

Sighs. Forgot to give Growl back to Water Polo :wailmer:. Opts for the back-up plan, then. Defeat Ninetales :ninetales: with Weightlift :elgyem:. Set up Reflect for Skateboard :toxel:. Weaken Arcanine :arcanine: with Nuzzle and Tearful Look. Start Dragon Dancing. May switch to Water Polo :wailmer: if things go bad.

Avoids sending Martial Arts :axew: against Ninetales :ninetales: due to Will-O-Wisp.

Galar 2020 Gym 3.png

Turn 1: :ninetales: Will-O-Wisp (Immune to Weightlift's :elgyem: Synchronize Burn) / :elgyem: Light Screen
(Burn damage to 71/75)
Turn 2: :ninetales: Fire Spin (63/75) / :elgyem: Psybeam (20%, confusion)
(Burn + Fire Spin to 50/75)
Turn 3: :ninetales: Quick Attack (39/75) / :elgyem: Psybeam (critical, 45%)
(Burn, Fire Spin, and Oran Berry to 36/75)
Turn 4: :ninetales: Quick Attack (26/75) / :elgyem: Psybeam (20%)
(Burn + Fire Spin to 13/75)
Turn 5: :elgyem: Lemonade (heal to full) / :ninetales: (No longer confused) Quick Attack (65/75)
(Burn + Fire Spin to 52/75. Light Screen down.)
Turn 6: :ninetales: Ember (33/75) / :elgyem: Reflect
(Burn + Fire Spin to 20/75)
Turn 7: :ninetales: Ember (1/75) / :elgyem: Psybeam (the rest)
(Level up. Burn damage to 0/77 :elgyem::faintedazurill:)
(Blocked Arcanine's :arcanine: Intimidate with Skateboard's :toxel: Rattled. +1 Speed.)
Turn 8: :arcanine: Will-O-Wisp / :toxel: Nuzzle (critical, 5%)
(Burn damage to 62/66)
Turn 9: :toxel: Tearful Look / :arcanine: Paralyzed
(Burn damage to 58/66)
Turn 10: :toxel: Tearful Look / :arcanine: Agility
(Burn damage to 54/66. Reflect down.)
Turn 11: :arcanine: Flame Wheel (32/66) (Oran Berry heal to 42/66) / :toxel: Tearful Look
(Burn damage to 38/66)
Turn 12: :arcanine: Flame Wheel (19/66) / :toxel: Tearful Look
(Burn damage to 15/66)
Turn 13: :toxel: Switch :axew: / :arcanine: Flame Wheel (65/70)
Turn 14: :arcanine: Will-O-Wisp / :axew: Dragon Dance
(Burn damage to 61/70)
Turn 15: :axew: Dragon Dance / :arcanine: Paralyzed
(Burn damage to 57/70)
Turn 16: :axew: Dragon Dance / :arcanine: Agility
(Burn damage to 53/70)
Turn 17: :axew: Dragon Dance / :arcanine: Agility
(Burn damage to 49/70)
Turn 18: :axew: Dragon Dance / :arcanine: Bite (43/70)
(Burn damage to 39/70)
Turn 19: :axew: Soda Pop (heal to full) / :arcanine: Bite (62/70)
(Burn damage to 58/70)
Turn 20: :axew: Burn Heal (final item) / :arcanine: Bite (51/70)
(Dynamaxed Martial Arts :axew:)
Turn 21: :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (critical, the rest)
(Gigantamaxed Centiskorch :gmaxcentiskorch:)
Turn 22: :axew: Dynamaxed Dragon Claw (100%) / :gmaxcentiskorch::faintedazurill:
(Level up.)

...Probably could have saved a lot of time by just going all-in with Water Polo :wailmer:. Worried about them being low on hitpoints versus Centiskorch :gmaxcentiskorch:. Did not know about Arcanine's :arcanine: Will-O-Wisp either. Would have kept Taunt, in that case.

Really hoped for the level-up hitpoints to save Weightlift :elgyem:. No such luck.

Won the Fire gym badge, a Will-o-Wisp Technical Machine, and a Fire Uniform.

Almost forgot again: team expansion time. Who will join the team and be immediately retired next update? For transparency: 1-30 for something in boxes. 31-34 for something on a Poke Job.

Random number: 31. ...Of course. Picks whoever winds up being first upon being returned to the boxes.

Snowboarding the Snom :snom::premierball:
Level: 11
Nature: Adamant (+Attack / -Special Attack) (Boo)
Ability: Shield Dust
Moves: Powder Snow and Struggle Bug
Stats: 31 HP / 13 Atk / 16 Def / 14 SpAtk / 12 SpDef / 9 Speed

Meet the world's most disappointing Snom :snom:. Adamant. Could have had the Hidden Ability (halves special damage taken). Feels okay about them getting retired.

Finishes off this update. Bumps up the level limit considerably (27 -> 35), despite about as many trainers as this update (probably fewer, actually). Faces an avalanche of Wonder Cards too. (Hopes for a record number of cards.) Thank you for reading and for reactions. Farewell for now.

Martial Arts the Axew :axew:
Level: 28
Ability: Rivalry
Moves: Slash, Dragon Claw, Crunch, and Dragon Dance
Stats: 72 HP / 62 Atk / 42 Def / 26 SpAtk / 31 SpDef / 47 Speed

Weightlift the Elgyem :elgyem:
Level: 28
Ability: Synchronize
Moves: Psybeam, Reflect, Round, and Light Screen
Stats: 77 HP / 50 Atk / 42 Def / 49 SpAtk / 39 SpDef / 32 Speed

Water Polo the Wailmer :wailmer:
Level: 27
Ability: Water Veil
Moves: Water Pulse, Brine, Heavy Slam, and Bulldoze
Stats: 109 HP / 51 Atk / 28 Def / 51 SpAtk / 27 SpDef / 44 Speed

Skateboard the Toxel :toxel:
Level: 28
Ability: Rattled
Moves: Nuzzle, Tearful Look, Round, and Acid
Stats: 69 HP / 33 Atk / 26 Def / 44 SpAtk / 27 SpDef / 30 Speed

Snowboarding the Snom :snom:
Level: 11

Thank you, SAF, for the reaction once again. Doubles all card draws from the legendary card "The True Test" last update. Means four full random cards.

Random number: 12
(9-12) Showboating: Cannot Dynamax this update. Permits it for Max Raids still.

Not a big problem, provided Dragon Dance remains an option.

Random number: 91
(89-92) Ready for the Cameras: Purchase a random hairstyle. Purchase and wear at least two new clothing items.
Random style: 5. Side Part.
Random color: 10. Green.

Biked to Hammerlocke for new options. Consisted mainly of track clothing. Was not feeling it. Splurged at Motostoke instead.
Galar 2020 New Look.png

Bears an uncanny resemblance to Cilan. Matched their pose even.
Cilan Image.png

Random number: 58.
(56-59) Season-ending Injury: Select a random Pokemon. Retire it at the end of the next battle where it takes any damage.
Random Pokemon: 2. Weightlift :elgyem:.

Calls that a little unfortunate. Happens right before the Fighting gym. May not have done well anyways, given a fair number of Dark moves.

Could simply enter a battle now and retire them. Will give them a little better sendoff than that, though.

Random number: 28.
(27-30) Healthy Eating: Must use bitter healing items instead of normal healing items for the remainder this update.

Stocked up at Hulbury. Essentially sells bitter versions of Super Potion, Hyper Potion, Full Heal, and Max Revive. Did not know Revival Herbs worked like Max Revives.

Highlights one particular change in Sword/Shield: Friendship. Rolled Affection (from Pokemon Amie in X/Y and Refresh in Sun/Moon) into Friendship. Receives the usual Affection benefits (such as hanging on at 1 hitpoint) from high Friendship now. Capped Friendship from battling and such at 160 (out of 220), however. Requires Pokemon Camp to get the overpowered benefits...supposedly, anyways.

Now to the actual update part. Wandered through Hammerlocke for freebies. Received, rather fittingly, a Soothe Bell.

Candied everyone up to 30 now. Evolved :toxel:Skateboard:toxtricitylowkey:. Becomes actually useful (base stat total from 242 to 502). Grabbed Eerie Impulse from the Move Relearner. Sidenote: Why can Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: learn both Tearful Look and Noble Roar? Accomplishes the same thing, albeit with one being sound-based.

Evolved :snom: Snowboarding :frosmoth: between updates too. Picked up Feather Dance. ...Okay, welcome to the team. Prefers Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: for the debuff role, but whatever. Lowers Attack instead of Special Attack.

Pointedly avoided the Battle Cafe. Has not forgotten the mega-leveled beasts :slurpuff::aromatisse: lurking there.

Found someone wanting Toxel :toxel: in exchange for Togepi :togepi:. Disallowed that. Would have been interesting, though.

Behold, Hammerlocke's great treasure vault.
Galar 2020 Treasure Vault.png

Never even left space for the fifth tapestry.

Led with Snowboarding :frosmoth: against Team Yell for its first battle. Critical Struggle Bug on its first attack. Points for trying to impress.

Met Kara Liss, the fossil resurrector. Will never use one of their abominations :dracozolt: :dracovish: :arctozolt: :arctovish: in a breeding-based challenge. Thank goodness.

Aw. Found a Light Clay just as Weightlift :elgyem: is about to leave. ...Does anyone else learn screens? Snowboarding :frosmoth:. Interesting. Competes with Stun Spore, Feather Dance, and actual attacking moves, but interesting nonetheless.

Alas, poor Weightlift :elgyem:. Saved Martial Arts :axew: from a Sawk's :sawk: Low Sweep after one Bulk Up. Eliminated the threat. Suffered a broken leg from the Low Sweep and a blinking light on one of its hands from the Double Kick. Will be unable to compete henceforth. Give them a round of applause.

Random Pokemon: 9.

Wrestling the Hawlucha :hawlucha:
Level: 16
Ability: Limber
Nature: Rash (+Special Attack / -Special Defense)
Moves: Encore, Hone Claws, Wing Attack, and Detect
Stats: 52 HP / 39 Atk / 33 Def / 33 SpAtk / 26 SpDef / 46 Speed

Where are the good natures? Seems to have stellar Attack and Defense Individual Values, though.

Definitely appreciated for the Fighting gym. Caught them up in level. ...Feather Dance, Hone Claws, Encore, and Aerial Ace. All in one set. Such great potential.

Maintains this trainer to be scarier than the Hex Maniacs and Fairy Girls in X/Y.

Reached Stow-on-Side, plus a face-off versus Hop. Marks the fifth battle versus them in the game. Changes their team around this time.

Turn 16: :hawlucha: Aerial Ace (100%) / :drizzile::faintedazurill:

Vicious.

Blocks you from progressing further. Oh well. Candied up to level 35 (from 32-33) for the gym challenge.

Why does everything love using Brutal Swing against Wrestling :hawlucha:? Trashed a Bewear :bewear: attempting that.

And now Roost for Wrestling :hawlucha:. Could know Taunt too. Excels at setup to an absurd degree.

Thrashed all of the gym challenge trainers. Leveled to 36, as intended by the adjusted level limit. Matched Bea's Machamp :machamp: now.

Strategy: Drew "Showboating". Intends to live up to that. Solo Wrestling :hawlucha: time, no Dynamax. Normally prefers to leave debuffing to others (see: Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey:). Not today. Sit back and relax for this one. Will take a while.

...Gold medal. What else can you say about that? Ended at full health with no Bag items.

Concludes this update. Thanks for reading and again for the reaction. Already reached the next level limit on Wrestling :hawlucha: (37). Treks through the woods next time for the Fairy gym and the final team member. Farewell for now.

A single random card today.

Random number: 94
(93-95) Fill in the Blanks: Describe content that could have been seen or visited in this update.

Will fulfill that when it arises.

First order of business: deposit Wrestling :hawlucha:. Reached the level limit for this update last time. Is already ~50% of the way to 38 too.

Next up, another battle with Bede. Prepare for more setup.

Turn 13: :axew: Crunch (100%) / :galarianponyta::faintedazurill:
Turn 14: :axew: Crunch (100%) / :gothorita::faintedazurill:

A standard victory. Ought to consider a Negative card to prevent setup like this.

Back to that content Wonder card. Imagines a ruins area to explore. Depicts more of Galar's history. Would like more detail about the heroes and Darkest Day. Why is it even called "The Darkest Day"? What does the storm have to do with it? What caused it? Answers questions like these.

Galar 2020 Ruins.png

Could also go into other parts of Galar's past. Heard others speculate about Galar fighting Kalos in the war mentioned in X/Y. Perhaps more about the Wishing Stars that Bede desired so desperately here.

Wants one more thing: a reason to return. Never set foot in that boring treasure shack in Hammerlocke ever again. Struggles to justify random Pokemon here or useful NPCs, however. Suggests a move tutor for Zacian :zacian: and Zamazenta :zamazenta:. Revolves around them, after all. Would also stick Galarian Yamask's :galarianyamask: evolution here, rather than some random rock in the Wild Area. Suits it well, given the ancient tablets.

Entered the forest. Thought about leaving items there. Approached the level limit. Opted to deposit Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: instead. Grabbed the U-Turn Technical Machine and skedaddled.

Hands over the good stuff in Ballonlea: Choice Scarf, Hex TM, Eviolite, and Acrobatics TM.

Made it to the gym without overleveling. (578 experience to 38 on Snowboarding :frosmoth:.)

Came time for Water Polo's :wailmer: Heavy Slam to shine. Flattened all the gym challenge trainers. Questions why a Gardevoir :gardevoir: chose Mystical Fire twice. Knew Dazzling Gleam, apparently. Shrugs.

Strategy: Will be a trickier setup this time. Recalls Mawile :mawile: leading for Opal. Taught Growl to Water Polo :wailmer: and Steel Wing to Wrestling :hawlucha:. Plans to paralyze, Growl, and then set up Hone Claws.

Showboats without mercy, even without the card active. Evolved :axew:Martial Arts:fraxure: from the battle too.

Ends this update. A heads-up: Will not post an update for a few days. 1. Will be busy with other things. 2. Wants to farm Max Raids for experience candies. Increases to four-star raids after the next gym badge. Becomes difficult to win.

Thanks for reading. Farewell until the next update.

Spaced on the new party member slot again. Will fulfill that before Wonder Cards.

Random number: 11.

Trampoline the Lunatone :lunatone:
Level: 30
Nature: Bold (+Defense / -Attack)
Ability: Levitate
Moves: Psyshock, Cosmic Power, Psychic, and Rock Throw
Stats: 94 HP / 42 Atk / 48 Def / 65 SpAtk / 59 SpDef / 47 Speed

Looked up events before Pokemon. Named Trampoline :lunatone: near last. What are you supposed to name a slow Pokemon with no arms or legs? (Ignore the correct answer of "Discus".)

An interesting new member. Decent nature as well. Souped up its moves to Moonblast, Psychic, Hypnosis, and Rock Slide. Questions why Trampoline :lunatone: cannot learn Ancient Power, of all moves. May consider Cosmic Power + Moonlight for some niche situation.

...Checked its memories by mistake. "Trampoline studied about how to use Harden in a Box, thinking about Bela. The Pokemon clearly remembers that it got a bit carried away."

:surprisedazurill:: Random Wonder Card: 2/1
❤: Positive Points: 3/3
:thonkazurill:: Negative Points: 0/3
:sadazurill:: Retire Points: 0/3
:hmmazurill:: Other Points: 0/3

One Positive and two full randoms. Appreciates the reactions.

Applied these long before posting the intended update. Expects the poll card, for an even longer break. Knows how this deck operates. Leads with the Positive card, per the rules.

Random Positive number: 52.
(50-52) Tipping the Scales: Select the heaviest OR tallest Objective Pokemon. Nullify all Negative and Retire effects on them during this update and the next. Do not redraw those Negative or Retire cards if it completely negates them.

Who is an Objective Pokemon? ...Just Water Polo :wailmer: and Wrestling :hawlucha:. Really? Only marked 11/38 events as "Judge". Somehow got four of them.
- Water Polo :wailmer:: 6 feet, 7 inches (2 meters) and 286.6 pounds (130 kilograms)
- Wrestling :hawlucha:: 2 feet, 7 inches (0.8 meters) and 47.4 pounds (21.5 kilograms)

Chooses Water Polo :wailmer:, due to winning both. Is not bothered. Considered them good too. Protects them for the Rock gym ahead.

Random number: 45.
(45-46) On the Podium: Complete a Max Raid battle. Keep all the rewards.

Ooh. Will not look up Technical Record rewards. Scouts the type easily enough, however. Who needs a good move? Probably Trampoline :lunatone:, specifically Power Gem.

Frowns. Peeked into a lot of dens. Turned down the two-star Binacle :binacle:, for fear of Stone Edge or Liquidation. Saw no other Rock types, despite probably looking at fifty dens.

Officially settled for a three-star rare spawn Mareanie :mareanie:. May have Surf or Sludge Bomb. Chose between that and Hitmonchan :hitmonchan: for maybe Close Combat.

Looted Dynamax Candy x2, Toxic Spikes TR, and Sludge Wave TR. Shrugs. Close enough to Sludge Bomb.

Just looked through the TM/TR pouch. Owns eight Power Gem TRs. Who dropped all those? Eight Earth Powers too. No Surfs or Earthquakes among them, at least.

Random number: 40.
(39-41) Free McDonalds: Cook one dish at your camp for the entire party.

Bought "Bob's Food Tin" from a Wild Area vendor. Dumped five Aguav Berries and five Hondew Berries into the pot. Scored Copperajah Class on the meal. Good enough.
Galar 2020 Bitter Curry.png

Increased Friendship with everyone. (Gained a level on Water Polo :wailmer: too. Would have been a hilarious time to evolve. Happens one level later, unfortunately.)

Will cover activities during the pause in brief:
- Stocked up on Experience Candy. Amassed 266 S (800 experience each), 310 M (3000 experience each), and 63 L (10000 experience each). Totals 1,772,800 experience points.
- Sent Pokemon in the supply on Poke Jobs. Yielded tons of idle experience. Averages level 36.26 among those Pokemon.
- Defeated several interesting Max Raid Pokemon :dreepy::togetic::turtonator::salazzle::hitmonchan::steelix:. Thought about a challenge based purely on limited Max Raid captures. Perhaps sometime (far) in the future.

Replaced Skateboard's :toxtricitylowkey: Acid Spray with Sludge Wave. Purchased the elemental fang Technical Machines at the newly unlocked shop (for nobody).

Now for actually playing. Headed to the bridge for another Hop battle. What is an update without one of those? Changed up their team again.

Turn 27: :hawlucha: Aerial Ace (the rest)
(Leftovers heal to full.)
Turn 28: :hawlucha: Aerial Ace (100%) / :heatmor::faintedazurill:
Turn 29: :hawlucha: Aerial Ace (100%) / :inteleon::faintedazurill:

A bit dicier, but still a clear victory.

Received the option for Swords Dance on Wrestling :hawlucha: now too. Declined at present, despite being better with Aerial Ace. Deposited Wrestling :hawlucha: also, due to being half a level from the limit.

Took a strong Pollen Puff on Trampoline :lunatone:. Retaliated with their first attack of the challenge: a critical Rock Slide.

Ah. Said a bit of flavor text during a battle with Martial Arts :fraxure:. Indicates enough Friendship to possibly survive at 1 hitpoint.

Evolved :wailmer:Water Polo:wailord:. Probably locked down height and weight contests at 47 feet, 7 inches (14.5 meters) and 877.4 pounds (398 kilograms).

Finally, a useable (and good) Technical Machine: Brick Break. Switched Wrestling :hawlucha: for Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: in the PC. Dropped Hone Claws for now. Beats Submission (their only other Fighting option) for sure.

Always fears this double battle. Typically goes very well. Will see what happens this time.

Enemy team: :excadrill::hippowdon::lucario::perrserker:
Note: Forgot to turn Battle Effects back on. Could not keep up on hitpoints. Recorded the amount at the end of each round instead.

(Hippowdon's :hippowdon: Sand Stream)
Turn 1: :excadrill: Rock Slide / :hawlucha: Flinch / :wailord: Brine (at :hippowdon:, 95%) / :hippowdon: Sand Tomb (at :wailord:)

Turn 2: :excadrill: Rock Slide / :hawlucha: Brick Break (at :excadrill:, 100%) / :wailord: Brine (at :hippowdon:, the rest) / :hippowdon: Sand Tomb (at :wailord:)

Turn 4: :hawlucha: Switch :fraxure: / :lucario: Metal Claw (at :fraxure:) / :wailord: Brine (at :lucario:, the rest) / :perrserker: Taunt (at :fraxure:)

Turn 5: :fraxure: Crunch (at :perrserker:, 30%) / :wailord: Brine (at :perrserker:, 65%) / :perrserker: Swagger (at :fraxure:, miss)
(Sandstorm over. Water Polo :wailord: at 88/190, Martial Arts :fraxure: at 76/116)
Turn 6: :fraxure: Crunch (at :perrserker:, the rest)

Much closer to expectations.

Snuck past the last trainer on the road to Circhester with everyone but Martial Arts :fraxure: at the level limit.

Broke into a bunch of houses. Obtained a lot of stuff, with an Icy Wind Technical Machine being the only noteworthy item at present.

Candied Martial Arts :fraxure: to 41. Tore through the gym challenge with reckless abandon. Triggered a lot of pit traps without the rumble feature (and not caring).

Remembers Barbaracle :barbaracle:, Shuckle :shuckle:, Stonjourner :stonjourner:, and Coalossal :coalossal: for Gordie.

Strategy: Could simply set up on Stonjourner :stonjourner: with Wrestling :hawlucha:. Wants glory for Water Polo :wailord:, though. Will lead with Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: to prevent Barbaracle :barbaracle: Shell Smashes. Might whittle Shuckle :shuckle: down too. Finishes with Water Polo :wailord:.

Turn 7: :wailord: Dynamaxed Brine (100%) / :gmaxcoalossal::faintedazurill:

A flawless victory. Feels really bad for that Shuckle :shuckle:, also.

Snapped a screenshot of Dynamaxed Water Polo :wailord: for fun.

Obtained the badge, a Rock Tomb Technical Machine, and a Rock uniform.

Two full randoms this time. Appreciates the reaction. Reminds everyone that Water Polo's :wailord: Tipping the Scales protects them from Negative and Retire cards this update as well.

Random number: 86
(86-88) Rookie Card: Choose all trainer card options randomly, whenever possible. Print it.

Random background: 1
Random effect: 14
Random frame: 14 (maximum result again?)
Random expression: 8
Random pose: 12
Random coating: 3

Galar 2020 Random TCard.png

As hideous as expected. Perfect.

Random number: 73
(71-73) Equal Representation: Retire Pokemon such that each region is represented only once. (Pick which of the 2+ Pokemon is retired randomly.) Replace them with a random Pokemon from an unrepresented region. Redraw if no Pokemon are retired.

Hoenn: Water Polo :wailord: and Trampoline :lunatone:
Unova: Martial Arts :fraxure:
Kalos: Wrestling :hawlucha:
Galar: Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey: and Snowboarding :frosmoth:

Cannot pick Water Polo :wailord:. Retires Trampoline :lunatone:, then. Chooses randomly between the Galar Pokemon.

Random number: 1. Skateboard :toxtricitylowkey:.
Aw. Oh well. Already played with a Toxtricity :toxtricitylowkey: before (same form too).

Must pick Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Alola. Narrows the possible Pokemon down to nine.

Random number: 4
Volleyball the Combee (female) :combee:
Level: 40
Nature: Modest (+Special Attack / -Attack)
Ability: Honey Gather
Moves: Sweet Scent, Gust, Struggle Bug, and Bug Bite
Stats: 84 HP / 36 Atk / 48 Def / 34 SpAtk / 41 SpDef / 65 Speed

Take a look at the stats. Base 30 Attack and Special Attack. Modest nature, and yet higher Attack. Ruh roh.

Input their stats into an Individual Values calculator. Perfect Attack. 5-7 in Special Attack. Sort of balances out.

Questions whether the gender ratio remains as it did. Has seen an awful lot of female Combees :combee:. Only produced one egg. (Would have kept a male one too.)

Cut Boxing :riolu: out as the other possible Sinnoh representative. Comes down to one of seven (five of them Kanto).

Random number: 5.
Tennis the (Kanto) Meowth :meowth:
Level: 37
Nature: Timid (+Speed / -Attack)
Ability: Pickup
Moves: Slash, Assurance, Fury Swipes, and Scratch
Stats: 82 HP / 34 Atk / 42 Def / 39 SpAtk / 38 SpDef / 79 Speed

...Why are all of these natures so trash? 0-1 Individual Values in Attack. Insists hard on special Meowth. Fine. Learns Nasty Plot eventually. Leverages its Speed easily enough too.

Candied both up to 41. Evolved :combee:Volleyball:vespiquen: and :meowth:Tennis:persian:. Fixed up their moves. Put Air Slash, Power Gem, Attack Order, and Defend Order on Volleyball :vespiquen: and Swift, U-Turn, Charm, and Power Gem on Tennis :persian:. Recognizes the irony of two Power Gem Pokemon now.

Celebrated the gym victory at a restaurant. Discovered convenient plot as questionable décor there.

Oh. Actually forgot about this Hop battle. Thought there would be an update without one.

Galar 2020 Hop 7.png

(Hail active)
Turn 1: :persian: Charm / :dubwool: Take Down (85/110)
(Hail + Leftovers. Still at 85/110.)
Turn 2: :persian: Charm / :dubwool: Growl
Turn 3: :persian: Charm / :dubwool: Growl
Turn 4: :persian: U-Turn (2%) (Switch to Martial Arts :fraxure:) / :dubwool: Defense Curl
(Hail damage to 112/119)
Turn 5: :dubwool: Defense Curl / :fraxure: Dragon Dance
(Hail damage to 105/119)
Turn 6: :fraxure: Dragon Dance / :dubwool: Take Down (96/119)
(Hail damage to 89/119)
Turn 7: :fraxure: Dragon Dance / :dubwool: Defense Curl
(Hail damage to 82/119)
Turn 8: :fraxure: Dragon Dance / :dubwool: Growl
(Hail damage to 75/119)
Turn 9: :fraxure: Dragon Dance / :dubwool: Growl
(Hail damage to 68/119)
Turn 10: :fraxure: Dragon Dance / :dubwool: Take Down (miss)
(Hail damage to 61/119)
Turn 11: :fraxure: Dragon Claw (the rest)
(Level up. Hail damage to 57/122)
Turn 12: :fraxure: Dragon Claw (100%) / :snorlax::faintedazurill:
(Hail damage to 50/122)
Turn 13: :fraxure: Crunch (95%) / :corviknight: Scary Face
(Hail damage to 43/122)
Turn 14: :corviknight: Hyper Potion (heal to 96%) / :fraxure: Crunch (95%)
(Hail damage to 36/122. Fainted Corviknight :corviknight:)
Turn 15: :fraxure: Dragon Claw (100%) / :inteleon::faintedazurill:
(Hail damage to 29/122)
Turn 16: :fraxure: Dragon Claw (100%) / :pincurchin::faintedazurill:

Chose Martial Arts :fraxure: over Wrestling :hawlucha: for variety (plus a better option for full experience). Should have given them Leftovers instead of the Eviolite, apparently. Was not counting on Hail, admittedly.

Pummeled Team Yell with Volleyball :vespiquen:. Unlocked water travel. Time for the rest of the good items: Choice Band, Assault Vest, Avalanche TM, Psycho Cut TM, Air Slash TM, Cross Poison TM, and Shadow Claw TM.

Read a sign that says not to use Pokeballs on trainer Pokemon. Why do they wait until now to say that?

Learned Flying Press on Wrestling :hawlucha: at 44. Promptly unlearned it for Brick Break, due to having Swords Dance instead of Hone Claws. Met Marnie moments later. Level 43 for the rest of the party.
Galar 2020 Marnie 2.png

Turn 1: :liepard: Sucker Punch (95/131) / :frosmoth: Bug Buzz (100%)
(Level up.)
Turn 2: :toxicroak: Poison Jab (29/131) (Sitrus Berry heal to 61/131) / :frosmoth: Feather Dance
Turn 3: :toxicroak: Swagger / :frosmoth: Stun Spore (miss)
Turn 4: :frosmoth: Switch :vespiquen: / :toxicroak: Poison Jab (100/125)
Turn 5: :toxicroak: Venoshock (70/125) / :vespiquen: Air Slash (75%)
Turn 6: :toxicroak: Hyper Potion (heal to full) / :vespiquen: Air Slash (80%)
Turn 7: :toxicroak: Venoshock (45/125) (Sitrus Berry heal to 76/125) / :vespiquen: Air Slash (the rest)
Turn 8: :vespiquen: Switch :fraxure: / :morpeko: Spark (109/125)
Turn 9: :morpekohangry: Bite (82/125) / :fraxure: Dragon Claw (55%)
Turn 10: :morpeko: Torment / :fraxure: Dragon Claw (the rest)
Turn 11: :fraxure: Switch :hawlucha: / :scrafty: Scary Face
Turn 12: :scrafty: Swagger / :hawlucha: Brick Break (100%)

Preferred Flying Press there. Oh well. Defeated them much easier than last time.

Combined trainers and experience candy to reach 45 on the team. Enjoyed Dragon Dancing on two Baneful Bunker turns versus a Toxapex :toxapex:.

Demolished the straightforward challenge with Volleyball :vespiquen:, plus a double battle assist from Snowboarding :frosmoth:. Captured a screenshot of one grunt without face paint. Might only appear in this challenge. Loved their expression.
Galar 2020 Unpainted Yell.png

Strategy: Cannot remember Piers's lead. Guesses Sableye :sableye:. Complicates things, given a likely Power Gem and two double weaknesses :frosmoth::vespiquen:. Selects Tennis :persian: to scout with U-Turn. Hopes to find someone to set up on. Might end up being Obstagoon :obstagoon:. Knows Obstruct and Counter. Encores both of those without hesistation. Oh, and no Dynamaxing for anyone.

(Forgot to take a screenshot here. Whoops. Recreated it in Paint relatively quickly.)
Galar 2020 Gym 7 Recreation.png

(Feels sort of proud of this. Says this not because of quality, but time spent. Pushed this out in maybe an hour and thirty minutes. Usually spends three times that. Copied the actual image without remorse, for the record.)

(Scrafty's :scrafty: Intimidate)
Turn 1: :persian: U-turn (5%) (Switch to Wrestling :hawlucha:) / :scrafty: Payback (115/130)
(Leftovers heal to 123/130)
Turn 2: :hawlucha: Encore / :scrafty: Payback (94/130)
(Leftovers heal to 102/130)
Turn 3: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :scrafty: Payback (88/130)
(Leftovers heal to 96/130)
Turn 4: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :scrafty: Payback (86/130)
(Leftovers heal to 94/130. Encore over.)
Turn 5: :hawlucha: Encore / :scrafty: Payback (85/130)
(Leftovers heal to 93/130)
Turn 6: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :scrafty: Payback (85/130)

Turn 7: :hawlucha: Swords Dance / :scrafty: Payback (85/130)

(Leftovers heal to 94/130. Encore over.)
Turn 11: :hawlucha: Brick Break (critical, the rest)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to 105/133)
Turn 12: :hawlucha: Brick Break (critical, 100%) / :malamar::faintedazurill:
(Leftovers heal to 113/133)
Turn 13: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :obstagoon: Counter
(Leftovers heal to 121/133)
Turn 14: :obstagoon: Obstruct / :hawlucha: Encore
(Leftovers heal to 129/133)
Turn 15: :obstagoon: Obstruct (failed) / :hawlucha: Brick Break (100%)
(Leftovers heal to full.)
Galar 2020 Encores.png

(Always says this on the last Pokémon, apparently. Had to screenshot it.)
Turn 16: :hawlucha: Brick Break (100%) / :skuntank::faintedazurill: (Aftermath damage to 100/133)

Earned the Dark badge, Snarl TM, and...a trip out of Spikemuth for plot. Resisted. Returned back to the stage for the real prize: Choice Specs.

Ends this update. Hit the next level limit (47) on Tennis :persian: already, despite barely participating. Completes the second loop of Galar next time. Will probably be much more exciting, due to almost certainly being unable to set up like every other battle. Thanks for reading and the reaction. Farewell for now.

Just the base random today. Thank you for the reaction.

Random number: 46
(45-46) On the Podium: Complete a Max Raid battle. Keep all the rewards.
Who needs a move? Probably Water Polo :wailord:. Could use Surf for the double battle ahead. If not that, Earthquake.

Hrm. Sees a Claydol :claydol:. Probably gives Earth Power (of course). Turned down the other options :polteageist::centiskorch::eldegoss::ninjask::drifblim:. Back-up plan: Wishing Piece into a den in the water. Came up as a three-star Wailmer :wailmer:. Sure. Selects that.

Loot: Dynamax Candy x1, Scald TR, Liquidation TR, and Muddy Water TR. Good enough. Defeated the Claydol :claydol: out of curiosity too. Yielded Psychic-type TRs. Dodged that bullet.

Back to the plot. Do not worry about that Dynamaxing Pokemon. Alright. Time for the gym challenge, then.

Actually, Poke Jobs first. Almost overleveled a few. Earned nearly 37000 experience in some cases. Ranges from level 40 to 47 now.

Candied up to level 47. Learned Outrage on Martial Arts :fraxure:. Dislikes it normally. Will need it soon, however. Taught Scald to Water Polo :wailord: too.

Features weather in each of the three gym challenge double battles.
- Battle 1: Rain versus Pelipper :pelipper: and Sliggoo :sliggoo:. Discovered that you cannot control Outrage's target during this battle. Worked out regardless.
- Battle 2: Sun versus Turtonator :turtonator: and Ninetales :ninetales:. Fainted poor Martial Arts :fraxure: here. Struck the correct target. Failed to one-shot Turtonator :turtonator: through a Burn, despite the Choice Band. Survived at 4 hitpoints from a Dragon Pulse, only to fall to the burn damage.
- Battle 3: Hail versus Abomasnow :abomasnow: and Hakamo-O :hakamoo:. Surprisingly easy. Barely missed the Bug Buzz one-shot on Abomasnow :abomasnow:. Set up Aurora Veil. Tore it down with Brick Break.

Enters bad territory now. Counted on Martial Arts :fraxure: reaching 48 to evolve. Came nowhere close, especially after fainting. Proceeds with this plan regardless. Trusts in base 117 Attack.

Enemy team: :flygon::gigalith::sandaconda::duraludon:.

Strategy: Lacks a lot of great options with a lot of enemy Rock moves. Handed the Choice Scarf to Martial Arts :fraxure: and Choice Specs to Water Polo :wailord:. Will break down the ideal strategy turn-by-turn.

- Ideal turn 1: Sink Flygon :flygon: with Outrage. Swords Dance with Wrestling :hawlucha:. Take a Stealth Rock or Stone Edge from Gigalith :gigalith:.
- Ideal turn 2: Dynamax Wrestling :hawlucha:. Flatten Gigalith :gigalith: with Max Knuckle. Accept a Glare from Sandaconda :sandaconda: (hopefully on the Limber Wrestling :hawlucha:).
- Ideal turn 3: Destroy Duraludon :duraludon: with a +3 Max Knuckle. Maybe switch in Water Polo :wailord: or something.

Considered an alternative plan with Water Polo :wailord: instead of Wrestling :hawlucha:. Hoped to double-team Duraludon :duraludon: instead. Lacked good damage output at that point, though.

Hopes for some luck here. Could easily go wrong on Turn 1.

Galar 2020 Gym 8.png

(Gigalith's :gigalith: Sand Stream)
Turn 1: :fraxure: Outrage (at :gigalith:, 70%) / :hawlucha: Swords Dance / :flygon: Breaking Swipe (84/136 :fraxure:, 110(?)/138 :hawlucha:) / :gigalith: Stealth Rock
(Sandstorm damage + Leftovers heal :hawlucha:.)
(Dynamaxed Wrestling :hawlucha:)
Turn 2: :fraxure: Outrage (at :gigalith:, the rest) (Confused) / :hawlucha: Dynamaxed Brick Break (at :flygon:, 75%) / :flygon: Breaking Swipe (0/136 :fraxure::faintedazurill:, 137/207 :hawlucha:)
(Stealth Rocks damage to 199/227 :wailord:. Sandstorm damage + Leftovers heal :hawlucha:)
Turn 3: :hawlucha: Dynamaxed Brick Break (at :flygon:, the rest) / :wailord: Scald (at :sandaconda:, 100%) / :sandaconda::faintedazurill:
(Level up for Wrestling :hawlucha:.)
(Gigantamaxed Duraludon :gmaxduraludon:)
Turn 4: :hawlucha: Dynamaxed Brick Break (80%) / :gmaxduraludon: Max Knuckle (at :hawlucha:, 122/211) / :wailord: Scald (the rest)

Deserved to faint after choosing the wrong target twice. Cost Wrestling :hawlucha: the one-shot on Duraludon :duraludon: due to the Breaking Swipes (-1 Attack each) too. Provided a beneficial side-effect of double-teaming Duraludon :duraludon:, at least.

Broke the deathless streak since the two faints in Update 3. Oh well. Foresaw trouble here. Tends to be like that in double battles.

Ends this update (with Martial Arts :fraxure: still unevolved). Thanks for reading and once again for the reaction. Collected all eight badges. Journeys to Wyndon next for the first half of the Champion Cup and a slog through an evil organization. Farewell for now.

Martial Arts the Fraxure :fraxure:

Only the base random today. Thank you for the reaction.

Random number: 75.
(75) Talent Scouting: Retire a random Pokemon. Add one of your choice to the team.
Random number: 6. Snowboarding :frosmoth:.

Feels okay about that. Played with a Frosmoth :frosmoth: in the monotype. Would not have minded Quiver Dance as another back-up, but oh well.

Hm. Who to take? Notices a team-wide issue versus Electric and Ice. Encounters fairly few of both, however. Best options:
- Bobsleigh :snorlax:: All around good. Thick Fat for Ice-types. Learns Ground and Fire moves. Excellent nature (+Defense / -Special Attack).
- Speed Skate :electrike:: Lightning Rod for Electric moves. Learns Eerie Impulse from an upcoming Technical Machine.
- Luge :galariandarumaka:: A beast. Terrible nature, however (+Special Attack / -Attack).
- Climbing :galarianyamask:: Brings Earthquake and an immunity to Electric.
- Basketball :growlithe:: The only Fire-type in the supply. Helps against all the Steel types ahead. Always appreciates Intimidate.

Selects Bobsleigh :snorlax:. Almost chose Speed Skate :electrike: for its Special Attack (particularly nice for Golisopod :golisopod: later). Ultimately picked them for the defensive setup option. Works better than Volleyball's :vespiquen:...probably.

Bobsleigh the Snorlax :snorlax:
Level: 47
Nature: Impish (+Defense / -Special Attack)
Ability: Thick Fat
Moves: High Horsepower, Body Slam, Stockpile, and Charm
Stats: 221 HP / 117 Atk / 80 Def / 63 SpAtk / 122 SpDef / 42 Speed

Already fixed up the moves. Presumes both Hitpoints and Special Defense Individual Values to be perfect. Only became more impressive.

Question of the day: Who would you have picked? Posted the roster of Pokemon at the top of the thread.

Created the Leftovers limit for a reason. Wants it on so many Pokemon.

Rode a train to the middle of nowhere. Encountered Bobsleigh's first test already: a Gardevoir :gardevoir:. Fared alright. Could have done it with Water Polo :wailord:, though.

Evolved :fraxure:Martial Arts:haxorus: from that Gardevoir :gardevoir: battle. Gained 31 Attack and Speed from that plus the level. Leaps ahead of the pack on Attack (166 versus a 117 tie :snorlax::wailord:). Added Psycho Cut to their repertoire too.

Whew. Fought the Camera Crew team again (see: double battle with Sandstorm in Update 6). Switched up their team. Outsped a Noivern :noivern: with Martial Arts :haxorus: to prevent fainting from being double-targeted.

Picked up the Stomping Tantrum Technical Machine. A nice option for Martial Arts :haxorus:.

Walked into Wyndon with Tennis :persian: 282 experience away from level 52 (the level limit in the monotype). Raised this level limit to 54 for a reason.

Paid 250,000 Pokedollars for the elemental punches, Drain Punch, and Hyper Beam (for Tennis :persian:...maybe). Benefits Bobsleigh :snorlax: and Wrestling :hawlucha: considerably. Gave Drain Punch to Wrestling :hawlucha:. How does this keep getting better?

Get ready for the big times against the small fries. Kicks off the semifinals against Marnie. Actually thought it was Hop first. Whoops. Works either way.

Galar 2020 Marnie 3.png

Turn 1: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :liepard: Snarl (127/147)
(Leftovers heal to 136/147)
Turn 2: :liepard: Nasty Plot / :hawlucha: Swords Dance
(Leftovers heal to 145/147)
Turn 3: :hawlucha: Swords Dance / :liepard: Snarl (106/147)
(Leftovers heal to 115/147)
Turn 4: :liepard: Torment / :hawlucha: Swords Dance
(Leftovers heal to 124/147)
Turn 5: :liepard: Nasty Plot / :hawlucha: Drain Punch (100%) (heal to full)
Turn 6: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :morpeko: Spark (105/147)
(Leftovers heal to 114/147)
Turn 7: :hawlucha: Drain Punch (100%) (heal to full)
Turn 8: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :toxicroak: Swagger (miss)
Turn 9: :hawlucha: Drain Punch (100%)
(Level up.)
Turn 10: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :scrafty: Scary Face
Turn 11: :hawlucha: Drain Punch (100%)
(Dynamaxed Wrestling :hawlucha:. Gigantamaxed Grimmsnarl :gmaxgrimmsnarl:)
Turn 12: :hawlucha: Dynamaxed Drain Punch (100%) / :gmaxgrimmsnarl::faintedazurill:

Chose not to Encore Liepard's :liepard: Nasty Plot due to thinking it was a speed tie. Did not want to lock in Snarl. Realized the Prankster possibility a turn or two later. Managed fine, even with Torment, though.

Now for the challenge's sixth battle versus Hop (eight overall, counting the two before the challenge's start).

Galar 2020 Hop 8.png

Turn 1: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :dubwool: Zen Headbutt (121/149)

Turn 2: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :dubwool: Zen Headbutt (114/149)
(Leftovers heal to 123/149)
Turn 3: :hawlucha: Feather Dance / :dubwool: Zen Headbutt (109/149)
(Leftovers heal to 118/149)
Turn 4: :hawlucha: Swords Dance / :dubwool: Cotton Guard
(Leftovers heal to 127/149)
Turn 5: :hawlucha: Swords Dance / :dubwool: Zen Headbutt (113/149)
(Leftovers heal to 122/149)

...How many of these can Wrestling :hawlucha: solo? Deposited Wrestling :hawlucha: and Tennis :persian: here, however. Racked up a lot of experience (level 53.5 on both with the limit at 54). Fights a lot of pointless battles until Oleana. Saves them for the best parts.

Encountered a wild plot. Could have stopped at mentioning a meeting between Rose and Leon. Nope. Locked the way forward. Gave the key to someone else. ...Why is anyone bothering with this?

Stops for one moment. Why do these hide-and-seek battles exist? What are level 47 Pokémon—some unevolved :galarianmeowth::ferroseed:—going to accomplish? Stocks two per battle. Gives you buffs too. Why waste the player's time?

Scooped up the prize at the base of Rose Tower: Eerie Impulse Technical Machine. Cannot use it on anyone.

Increases the difficulty on the elevator ride up. Saddles you with Hop's Dubwool :dubwool: versus Steel-types in a double battle. Brought them down with Stomping Tantrums, Fire Punches, and a Scald. Credits Dubwool :dubwool: for two Body Slam paralyses. Contributed something.

Reached the top for the battle versus Oleana. Candied Bobsleigh :snorlax: to 52 (Oleana's ace's level). Chose not to level anyone up to 54. Set it to that only to avoid dumb situations.

Strategy: Probably leads with Weavile :weavile:. Does not care. Wants to solo it.

Always thought of the possibility of a critical while setting up. Finally happened. Could not set up with Martial Arts :haxorus: due to Choice Banding them. Fixed that after the battle.

Plus side: Saw Volleyball :vespiquen: and Tennis :persian: actually do something. Fulfilled their duties, more or less.

Also of note: first item(s) since Update 3. Avoided it this battle as long as possible.

Finishes today's update. Fights against Champion Leon in the next and final update. Thanks for reading and, as always, the reactions. Farewell for now.

(27-30) Healthy Eating: Must use bitter healing items instead of normal healing items for the remainder this update.

No easy Full Restores, then.

Resumes the Champion Cup. Kicks this part off with an interrupting Bede. Presents some possible difficulties.

Strategy: Leads with Mawile :mawile:. Spells trouble for Wrestling :hawlucha: and Martial Arts :haxorus:. Could also have Hyper Cutter, preventing Feather Dance setups.
- Scenario 1: No Hyper Cutter. Charm with Tennis :persian:. U-Turn to Martial Arts :haxorus:. Dragon Dance x4. Sweep.
- Scenario 2: Hyper Cutter. U-Turn to Bobsleigh :snorlax: (with Leftovers). Set up three Stockpiles. Chip away at Bede. Rest as needed.

Hates Rivalry so much. Feels glad to have Dynamaxed, though. Assumed that to have been a sure one-shot, even with the Gigantamax. Hardly qualifies as a tank with base 57 hitpoints and 95 defense.

Questions why gym leaders are in this tournament. Defeated them as part of the challenge to get here. Why should they show up again? Ought to just be other challengers. Anyways, Nessa, the Water gym leader.

Strategy: Leads with Golisopod :golisopod:. Hopes to solo this with Wrestling :hawlucha:. Fears the Barraskewda :barraskewda: and Ice Fang the most, however. Wants to drop a move for Dynamaxed Acrobatics (for the +1 Speed). May want them for later (and now), unfortunately.

Last: Raihan, the Dragon gym leader. Fights a normal single battle this time.

Strategy: Recalls either Sun or Sand as the lead. Bets Sun. Remembers Solar Beam on a Fire type (likely Turtonator :turtonator:). Shies away from putting Water Polo :wailord: out front, consequently. Rolls in with Bobsleigh :snorlax:, in that case. May stay in the whole match, if able.

Standard.

Forgot about the for-real battle versus Eternatus :eternatus:. Smacked it with Bobsleigh :snorlax: three times.

Called in help :zacian::zamazenta: for the boring Max Raid-style battle. Refers to it as boring due to the legendaries shouldering most of the weight.

Reached the point for all the Max Raid farming to pay off. Candied everyone up to 65 (7-8 levels each). Shoveled a combined 52 Exp Candy L's (10000 experience each) and six Rare Candies (maybe 9000 experience on average) into their mouthes. Still owns 36 Rare Candies, 304 M's (3000 experience each), and 4 L's.

Oh, right. Fed Wrestling :hawlucha: the three Dynamax Candies earned through wonder cards. Improves their hitpoint boost from Dynamaxing from 50% to 65%. Cannot use the other 169 Dynamax Candies, sadly.

Leaves one final bit of preparation. Swapped in new moves. Listed their updated repertoires below.
- Water Polo :wailord:: Soak, Noble Roar, Scald, and Rest.
- Wrestling :hawlucha:: Encore, Drain Punch, Swords Dance, and Aerial Ace.

Strategy for the Champion: Enter with Water Polo :wailord: against Aegislash :aegislash:. Soak it to eliminate same-type attack bonuses. Lower its stats with Noble Roar. Rest as needed. Switch in Wrestling :hawlucha:. Reach +6 Attack. Dynamax and use Aerial Ace for extra speed. Hopefully one-shot everything. Has Martial Arts :haxorus: as a back-up in case of a critical on Wrestling :hawlucha:.

...Aegislash :aegislash:. Really? May not have been a critical. Died on a damage range. Never once used King's Shield either. Had the Encore ready.

Discovered something about Soak. Evidently falls off if the target changes form. Wondered why Aerial Ace was not very effective. Almost used Drain Punch for recovery. Would have been disastrous.

Was not too surprised by failing to one-shot Charizard :charizard:. Defeated 1.5 normal Charizards :charizard:, but not a beefy Gigantamaxed :gmaxcharizard: one.

Completed the challenge. Thanks for reading and reacting all this way. Hopes to see you all again for the next challenge, whenever and whatever it may be. See the next spoiler section for overall thoughts and the traditional IV check.

- Battle 1: :oranguru::reuniclus::frosmoth:. Failed to regain enough hitpoints from a +2 Drain Punch. (Maybe another damage range, maybe not.) Swept with Martial Arts :haxorus: instead. (Note: Does not count these battles towards stats.)
- Battle 2: :sylveon::whiscash::gastrodon:. The scariest battle. Calm Mind, Yawn, and Baton Pass on Sylveon :sylveon:. Dragon Dance and Zen Headbutt on Whiscash :whiscash:. Loved Dragon Dance a little too much, fortunately. Encored it into that for a few turns. (Withdrew it after that.)
- Battle 3: :quagsire::whiscash::sylveon:. An eerily similar team. Set up on Quagsire :quagsire:. Swept from there. A successful solo.
- Battle 4: :pyukumuku::shiinotic::eldegoss: Unaware for Pyukumuku :pyukumuku:. Locked it into Safeguard. Withdrew it. Beat up its friends. Locked it into Safeguard again. Solo #2.
- Battle 5: :swoobat::togekiss::noctowl: Tricked a Flame Orb onto (Water Veil) Water Polo :wailord:. Tricked back Water Polo's :wailord: Chesto Berry later during a Rest. Enjoyed that. Handed it over to Martial Arts :haxorus: to sweep...only to meet Togekiss :togekiss:. Hit for ~65% with Crunch. Retaliated with a critical Dazzling Gleam. And then another against Water Polo :wailord:. Came down to Wrestling :hawlucha:. Finished off Togekiss :togekiss:. Lucked into a Noctowl :noctowl: using Reflect.

And finally, Leon. Spaced on the actual screenshot. Used one from the earlier fight.

Did not appreciate all those 20% chance Special Defense drops. Accomplished their job this time, though. Survived as a bonus.

Thoughts
Wound up being a little easy. Fainted to trainers only eight times. Used twelve items in trainer battles. Cannot pinpoint the exact reason for the lack of difficulty. Points towards being able to set up, certainly. Seemed significantly more successful than in, say, Sun/Moon. Are the move options better? Is it lots of weak Pokemon to set up on? Are these Pokemon just well-suited to it? Shrugs.

Was a bit disappointed by how few reactions there were. Reflects the slowdown in the forums, though. Will need to keep this in mind for any future challenges with audience participation.

Cannot say when the next challenge will be. Plans to play other games. Wanted to squeeze this in before Animal Crossing. Figures probably Fire Emblem or Earthbound after that.

Created two possible ideas for the next challenge:
1. Max Raid challenge in Sword. Catch what the raids give you. Amounts to something like a Scramble.
2. A gacha-based challenge in Moon. Assigns rarities to Pokemon. Acquires more through money. Pays for other things too, such as team space and item limits. Needs more work on the rules.

Ah. Forgot about play time. 41:03. Figures maybe 40:00 for the main game. Includes plenty of idling for cards, writing stats down, and so on.

Left something for the very end: the awards ceremony. Befits an Olympics-themed challenge, right?

Bronze medal: Martial Arts :haxorus:. Stuck with the team the whole way. Proved very useful at the start. Fell off as others evolved and/or stole its spotlight. Never stopped being good, however. Cannot do too poorly with that attack and Dragon Dance.

Silver medal: Water Polo :wailord:. Made it the whole way too. A reliable switch-in all throughout the game. Brought handy move types (like Ground and Steel) before others did. Stepped into the limelight for a few gym battles. Played a support role in other battles.

Gold medal: Wrestling :hawlucha:. No contest. Soloed several battles. Knew all the right moves. Started great. Somehow became better. Began to show cracks in the armor as attacks a Fighting move failed to one-shot, even at +6. Wrecked teams pretty hard with their speedy Encore, even so. Never used that move so much and to such great effect.

Said it every update, but thank you for reading and the reactions. Records these challenges because others enjoy reading them, presumably. Provides a reason to post on here as well.
