After entry, each aspiring employee was to enter a scanning capsule, held for no more than 30 seconds as computers analyzed every inch of their being. The occasional contraband would be caught, bright sirens reacting instantaneously, then the capsule would open: empty.

Before exiting it, however, their ID was manually printed on by one of a cast of android workers who seemed specialized for this very purpose. The instantaneous nature of the tattoo burned flesh harsher than would some may be used to, but the pain was relieved just as quickly as it was suffered, any burning sensation afterward would be the fault of the mind.

The lounge each member was directed to was large enough for a concert, making it difficult to have any sense of direction.
At least, that's what's thought. Reality isn't predisposed to that notion, as it seems, for when the number
294 was called, you each felt a strong urge to a specific gate over yonder. When reached, there was a long ways yet: a lengthy hall to a stairwell, the stairwell itself being unfitting in its rusted and generally unattended nature as the hall just before was beautifully modern with a sleek sheen coating the walls and domed ceiling. This is, of course, about where each member would meet each other, as the space available was considerably worse here.

---

Cauduas personally had some difficulty at first fitting in the medium pod, eventually being forced to squish his head in for the sake of brevity, coughing just once upon release, which certainly looks a lot weirder when you no more than a brain with an atrophied body.
He would go on alone through the hall, finding little issue with the deteriorating path as he levitated above.

Normally Temanast would have issues with the large amount of precautions being put into this job, but she had been worn thin from traveling and stripping down to bare essentials didn't help. She stepped into the capsule and relaxed her neck, lasers and computer parts turned in the walls and scanned her, she sighed. After a short delay, they stopped and she stepped out to face one of the robotic workers who motioned for her arm. She eyed him down but complied with clenched fists and lifted up her sleeve. The pain subsided and she rested on one of the walls, eyeing down any potential employee. Besides, there was no trust in any of these things anymore.

Cybillius had been in line directly posterior to Temanast, waiting patiently for the capsule to open once more. He curiously peeked inside for a quick moment before being jostled in the direction of the pod by the specimen in line behind him. Letting out a low, semi-threatening noise (the little runt isn't even three and a half feet), he made his way inside of the scanner.
The Skittermander wasn't expected any sort of pain in this process, so when there was an intense, burning sensation on his wrist he barely held in a yelp. He rubbed the spot that had been seemingly scorched on his wrist as he continued, following a human who seemed like she knew what she was doing. When Temanast had stopped walking and they had gone down to the hall, he stood a good distance away and fidgeted with his hands, looking behind at the large room they had previously been in.

Quietly standing in one of the many lines, K'sat nervously looking around, taken back by the sheer scale of everything going on. Her train of thought was suddenly cut off as she was "politely" reminded by those around her that it was her turn to enter the pod in front of her. She didn't mind the scans, but then sudden jolt of burning pain in her arm at the end of it didn't help the uncertainty she already had for this place. She managed to navigate her way through the large open room, making her way to the specific hallway that she had a sudden urge to go towards, playing out scenarios in her head of what would happen next as she arrived at the foot of the hallway.

"So, uh, you're my 29-4's, huh?" Cauduas asked without turning or anything, not even waiting for the group to catch up.
He was a bit disappointed by how each held themselves, but at least they seemed pliable. This in itself brought hope to his head, something he really needed going in.

---

The stairwell was surprisingly small, only taking them up a couple stories or so, before they were met by a similarly short hallway to a huge door: a necessity for some races.

A green dragonkin hunched over a desk parallel to the door, though there was much empty space left between the two. He looked up from his typing and growled, "Be seated until the rest come. You're lucky you had so little wait in the first place."

Temanast would've tackled the alien for doubting her ability, but convinced herself to scoff instead and proceed up the stairs behind it.
When they took a seat, Temanast took a moment to look around and examine the things that she would maybe work with. The small rat thing was first as it followed her previously, perhaps it could be useful but probably would get in the way. The brain was on her bad side already with the sly comment and the insect-looking human had done nothing yet, but still reminded her of the Algians by the antennae.
She put her arms over her head and leaned back, this would give her a decent rest.

Cybillius opened his mouth to entertain a response to the... brain-thing, but the thing had walked so far ahead he couldn't get his thoughts together to form some coherent conversation. The entire process of which they had all came through seemed, what? Daunting, unnecessarily complex, and then we weren't even told who we would be stationed with?
Great system design.
The dragonkin in the odd-looking waiting room the few had found their way into made him roll his eyes subtly and to himself. He decided to not sit, and stood quietly, attempting to shape his proxemics so that he wasn't too close or too far away from anyone to make it awkward.

That would suck ass.

K'sat's antennae dipped a little as she wasn't too fond of the Contemplative's manner but nevertheless she shook her head a little, getting herself to focus on more important matters rather then concerning herself on some simple comments. She quietly makes her way down the hall, examining and picking at the burn mark that was left on her from the pod while keeping a respectable distance with those around her as she continues this pattern when they sit down in the waiting area. For the most part she keeps to herself but can't help it but periodically give the three others near her a quick glance as she thinks to herself.
Hmmm, who's "the rest," and what's the reasoning behind the gathering of this group of "acquaintances" anyway, heh, could such a goal of companionship even be achieved in an environment like this?

The dragonkin's eyes scanned his list twice, then longed toward each member of the group. He huffed, then a door opened next to him. A small, gray, humanoid alien wearing a flashy cloak stood atop a hovering cuboid and waved with grandiosity. His kind was barely seen by most, not for their rarity, but for their stealth, and he seemed to object that trait most severely.
Two humans stood at his side, one armed and the other in modest dress. As he spoke a language unknown, the latter human seemed to be interpreting for everybody. For every exorbitant gesture of the Gray, the human replicated it half as much.

They bowed, then spoke, "Greetings, 2-9-4, it's sure exciting to see such, uh..."
A pause; a grimace.
"Eager... Folk looking for hire! The Inanis district is always thrilled to have new employees, I just wanted to give you all a warm welcome to your quarters!"
Only the Gray now beckons for the group, holding a thick packet that the dragonkin handed over just before. The door to the left—the earlier was to the right—is opened manually and the staff sans the dragonkin drift toward it slowly.

"How kind of you," the contemplative remarked with pride, a small shrug given by his body as if expecting support in his sarcasm. However, out of some courtesy he lowered himself down and pretended to walk. After all, upstaging your guide is never smart.

Cauduas at least didn't look like he was catching on to his own budding infamy.

Temanast took her time sitting up and following the 3, but in all honesty she was surprised with the kindness. Although there was some inconsistencies her and there, she felt better than the bands of bandits and raiders she commonly hung out with.
The aliens were still a bit odd to see, but the human voice was calming, soothing.
She got up and walked into the doorway, not caring for the others but knowing they would follow.

Cybillius was still slightly perturbed at the fact that he could not carry any of his tools or anything with him -- one as they would be too heavy and cumbersome, and that they would be mehhhh 'contraband.' This self-conversation about the situation was happening inside of his head while the alien spoke, so he wasn't paying much attention. Once he noticed some movement in front of him, he followed Temanast. The human seemed to know what she was doing, right? At least, it seemed like it. He couldn't see anything in front of him, actually, since he was too short.
Damn this girl.
He glanced behind him at the insectoid before returning his gaze to the front. If there was any danger then he would have basically zero time to react.

K'sat silently sighed in relief as she got up from her chair and started to walk with the alien, its associates, and the three others. Leaving that room and its atmosphere was already a step in the right direction, but on top of that the gray one's tone and attitude was a great step up compared to everyone else she had already met in here thus far.
She still kept some distance from that small...the small...thing?... in front of her, personally instigating any sort of official greetings with these kind of people could only end poorly. She continued her pace while periodically picking at the burned mark from the pod, while at the same time she received a random glace from the little one in front of her, interpreting the timing of the events as some form of a hint telling her that she screwed up some how. In reaction to this, she quickly ceased any form of tampering with the mark and just continues to silently walk with the others, trying her best to listen to the guide from the back of the group.

The party was led through a corridor of, most likely, offices and labs judging by the excessive amount of staff verification. Unpleasantly, a couple of them even required a blood sample for entry. Although this is a common practice to accommodate for differences in anatomy, its use isn't nearly as so: often only for top secret shenanigans.
As time dragged on, it became clear that the architect loved his games, these hallways make a labyrinth of its own, although it's at least hard to miss your guides.

The gray, vicariously through his interpreter, provided explanations to the more notable rooms passed, saying how they use this room for botany or the other for conferences. He also notes that your quarters will accessible through other means, but he prefers some transparency for the sake of his employees. At least, as he says, "as much transparency as I'm allowed."

At the very end was an industrial elevator fit for an adult dragon, the walls white and blinding, enough so that when turned on, so do darkbulbs: a Drow invention. Take a stab at guessing what they do.

Temanast took to admiring the clean offices and rooms, so much so that when blood samples were asked she simply ignored it and stayed in her own little space in her head. A perfect change of scenery and a decent amount of strictness, the opposite of raiding ships and risky gambling in far off systems.
Eventually walking took a tiring effect on Temanast, her movements became much more heavy, she longed for a bed or some food. When the center figure inquired about their quarters she stood up tall hoping to final have them once again. When they stopped at the elevator, she hoped the blinding light surging out of it would stop, she turned her head and shielded her eyes.
Now she was reminded of home, white snow, home cooked meals, it hit her hard but no emotion was found on her face.
