Sword and Shield is probably the best generation to get into competitive battling. There's a ranked ladder, Bottle Caps and Mints to make your legendaries actually usable, and it's a relatively simple set of mechanics that don't make you decide whether to hit Altaria with a Dragon move or not (seriously, Mega Evolutions were not that fun for me...).

I have got my Shield to a stage where, to encourage people to play more competitive, I am willing to build people rental teams and share them to everyone as rentals. I've got 4 boxes filled with EV trained Pokemon, and I can use these to breed for other decent mons as well, and with people's help, maybe get something moving :D.

(I'm hoping at some point to start recording and making videos, but this idea was kinda too exciting to not get the ball rolling as soon as I thought of it.)

The first challenge would be to find a Pokemon that we can build a team around, and let's go from there! It would be a good exercise to show people how to build a team, breed it efficiently, and test it out. Analyse what went well, what didn't, and how to develop it.

This will be geared towards the Doubles Ranked Ladder at first, as that's the official Pokemon format. I might change it in the future, but this will do for now.

Pictures of all my boxes as of 03/12/2020.

I've got 2 boxes of stuff which can be trained up, a load of legendaries which haven't been touched yet, and... yeah. Kinda crazy lol.

Going to start breeding for a Moxie Salamence too :D.

Added some pictures of my boxes. Let me know you want me to build around anything!

I'm always breeding stuff as well, so it might be that I can breed something else as well.

I really like that AV Quagsire set. I'd love to build around that. :quagsire::quagsire::quagsire:

@Gokudera yeah that was meant to be an answer to Excadrill, can work really well to beat Metagross, Rotom-W and Regieleki.

I mean, max Attack Metagross needs two perfect rolls to 2HKO with Max Quake. The common Weakness Policy sets run 100 Attack, so will not 2HKO.

It could be better to run Sitrus Berry or something to make use of its decent support moves, like Yawn.

That Quagsire isn't a sweeper thing though, more of a utility check to Weakness Policy users and boosted sweepers. Yawn certainly helps there, as with Protect, the enemy will lose their Dynamax and achieve very little. Partnering it with something like Moxie Salamence as a late game sweeper could work very well. I could get one of those for sure!

I think I might say "pick 4 Pokemon for a team" and I fill in the rest :D.

I forgot to say this because I'm dumb, but thanks for making this, man! This is a really awesome service 🤗 (Social Ditanced hug, of course)
I have no experience in Doubles, so I dont know how well I'd do at picking a team lol. I felt.this would be a really good opportunity to get familiar enough with Doubles to try it out.
I think Sitrus Berry Quagsire could work well with Yawn. I just love AV Quagsire because inused one in NU all the time. Power Up Punch, EQ, Liquidation, Rock Slide. It was fun.

But I feel the Light Clay Grimmsnarl would be a nice choice overall as a Lead.
Moxie Salamence sounds disgusting and I love it.
I feel a Fire type is also important since it covers Quag and Mence's Quad weaknesses.
Maybe a GMax Charizard?
Would need a Rapid Spinner as well. Excadrill is pretty much the best Rapid Spinner in the game, especially with the insane buffs Rapid spin got.

And I know this doesnt matter at all, but for Quagsire nocknames, i always go with Squishy. Because I imagine Quagsire would be squishy if you hugged it lmao.

One last thing. Your Belly Drum Snorlax has Chesto, but not Rest. Is there something I'm missing there? Is it meant to have Sitrus Berry?

@Gokudera you won't need a spinner. Stealth Rock is not worth it in Doubles. Sometimes the only switch will be the when a Pokémon is knocked out.

But if you wanted Excadrill, then Tyranitar would be awesome. I have an Adamant one which I need to train up, that would be a good opportunity :D. Quagsire would help here to combat Metagross as well.

And I've you still want a Fire type, there's Volcarona, Incineroar, Cinderace, Arcanine. I'm trying to think of something that helps beat Celesteela and helps against Grass types. Charizard could work instead of the Moxie sweeper.

And idea over Moxie Mence - Moxie Gyarados. A I've got one and B with Power Whip, it would cover your Water weakness slightly better, and reduce your Fairy weaknesses.

- Quagsire
- Dual Screens Grimmsnarl
- Salamence / Gyarados.
- Tyranitar
- Excadrill
- some kind of fire type.

Grass types are a bit of a problem, maybe have Rindo Berry on Quagsire to help reduce it.

[EDIT] - What about Rotom? Heat, Wash or Mow would be helpful. I've got a set for all of them :).

EDIT 2 - what about this? Can't remember what the EVs are on Rotom Heat.

Rotom sounds great! Heat would work best for dealing with Grass types, but I think Mow would be best for balance reasons, so I think I'd rather go with Mow.

@Gokudera here's the team, if you're happy with it I'll make you the rental code later :D.

It's very bulky, with screens and Intimidate and Unaware, and with lots of Protects, it can manoeuvre quite well. Ferrothorn might be a pain though. All but Rotom are physical Attackers, which also dies help against Lamdorus.

Special Tyranitar could work I guess, luring them in and Koing them, but he'd really want the Sash. I've seen a Weakness Policy Excadrill work, as with Screens and Intimidate, he could get the boosts quite easily.

Sorry for the delay, but here's the rental code for the team :).

0000 0008 KKD9 X8.

Will post a picture later :). Might breed a Special Tyranitar as well, which could be pretty fun and certainly help everything else sweep. Weakness Policy on Excadrill would be really funny, with Grimmsnarl giving him screen support. Getting STAB on Max Steel Spike and Max Quake is really really broken and will make him into a beast. Will see if I can train another one up too (I have too many Excadrills lol)

Cool thread idea! I was browsing through those pictures you posted, and one Pokémon caught my eye that I personally don't see that often. That Pokémon being Crobat. What EV spread and move set do you have on it?

@Gokudera thats fine, hope you enjoy it :D.

Crobat is 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed.

It's the fastest Tailwind user in the game, not counting Prankster Tornadus / Whimsicott, Gale Wings Talonflame, or Terrain Seed Unburden Drifblim. Its also one of 3 immune to Fake Out (others being Drifblim and Suicune) , which is one of the things that screws over Tornadus, Talonflame and Whimsicott.

It currently has Tailwind / Brave Bird / Cross Poison / Taunt with a Mental Herb. It basically guarantees getting it set up in situations that Whimsicott would hate. If it dies turn one but gets Tailwind up, perfect. That way it maximises Tailwind turns. It's almost why Brave Bird is on this set, to almost kill it quicker...

Stole the set off of this video :).

[EDIT] - I've been thinking about when you would use Crobat over Whim / Tornadus, and it would only be when you know your opponent isn't using Tailwind. In those match ups, or against anyone using Chlorophyll, Sand Rush, Swift Swim or Slush Rush, you'd be better off leading with Trick Room. Also avoid Regeleki and Dragapult, who will ruin your day.

"Tail Room" is an interesting concept as it has good Speed control against most foes. I'd probably pick a Trick Roomers and two other Pokemon that likes both, and go from there. I've got a Choice Band Rhyperior (252 Attack, 252 Speed Adamant) which could have Lightning Rod at a push.

As for Trick Roomers, I have:

- Defensive Bronzong
- Offensive Bronzong
- Standard Dusclops
- Porygon2
- Cofagrigus
- Runerigus (Still got to train this!)
- Mesprit (still have to train and bottle cap this!)
- Whimsicott (not recommended with Crobat...)
- Claydol (at a push, it was a Weakness Policy set and not really a Trick Room set)
- Offensive Hatterene
- Galarian Articuno (the Tail Roomer, not many get both! )

See what you think :)

Just how many boxes do you have? haha

I think I need to start doing what you do. Have different EV spreads for the same Pokemon. Like a Physical, Special, and Screen Setter Dragapult for instance.

My boxes currently consist of:

- Boxes 1-12 filled with Pokémon I couldn't get rid of, like breeding stock, eggs moves and Hidden Abilities.
- Boxes 17-18 Bred stuff I need to train up.
- 1 Box of legendaries
- 5 boxes of EV trained, finished stuff.
- 1 box of my favourite stuff. I've kept my original in-game team for example, my Zamazenta and Eternatus (who are always useful for Max Raids) and my army of Dittos.
- 3 and a bit boxes of Pokemon with Trainer IDs between 01-99. These are my PP Up batteries for the Lotto ID. Getting 27 PP Ups and 3 PP Maxes each month isn't bad going. I could probably cut a few as I have traded a lot of pokémon in my keep boxes, but I can't bring myself to do it yet.

I think its useful to have multiple versions of things, but some Pokémon have like one set, and one EV spread that is really any good. Durant, I don't think I've seen many Durant spreads, ever. There's a case between Life Orb, Assault Vest and Focus Sash, maybe? But yeah, its mostly 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 something.
