Waves. Welcome to Moonside Up, an egg and card-based challenge. Warns of Earthbound spoilers in advance.

What is this challenge? Revolves around using Pokemon hatched from eggs. Draws cards with random effects based on what spectators want.

Why do this challenge? Describes it as a salvage mission. Bred a lot of Pokemon for good eggs. Gathered dust. Intends to fix that. Created a challenge using them. Dislikes playing Nuzlockes. Introduced Wonder Cards for difficulty instead. Cycles through Pokemon this way still.

What is this theme? Comes from Earthbound, a role-playing game on the Super Nintendo. Controls four children. Aims to prevent Giygas from taking over the world in the future. Fights all manner of enemies, from Attack Slugs to Abstract Art to police. Features items familiar to children, such as baseball bats, teddy bears, and hamburgers. Separates itself from other role-playing games of the era by its goofier approach.

Named the challenge after Moonside, for the wordplay. Appears as a hallucinated version of Fourside. Says "Yes" to mean "No", and vice-versa. Loves teleporting you around there. Encounters monsters like a fire hydrant, a parking meter, and a melting clock. Faces the source of the illusion at the south end of town: the Mani Mani Statue.

Sent 75 eggs over to a new file. Cannot use any other Pokemon. Permits catching wild Pokemon for Poke Pelago numbers or experience.

Draws one Wonder Card at the start of every whole-numbered update. Adds more based on the audience. Supersedes the rules written here, unless specifically stated.

Placed any "Retired" Pokemon into a separate box. Occurs as a result from Wonder Cards. Prevents them from being used henceforth. Always replaces a Retired Pokemon with a new egg.

Team Size: Begins with three Pokemon. Increases to four after defeating Hala, five after clearing Totem Salazzle, and six after defeating Olivia.
Victory Condition: Become Champion of Alola.
Item Limit: Three per battle. Does not count Adrenaline Orbs as an item.
Shop Restrictions: Cannot purchase Technical Machines.
Experience Share: Yes.
Pokemon Refresh: Permits two hearts for any Pokemon hatched after defeating Olivia. No otherwise.
Poke Pelago: Yes to Isle Abeens, Aplenny, and Avue (Beans, Berries, and Hot Springs). No to Isle Aphun and Evelup (Cave and Training).
Z-Moves: No.
Battle Style: Set.
Perma-death: No.
Trade Evolutions: Yes, provided all the necessary items or Pokemon. May use Retired Pokemon for cases like Shelmet and Karrablast.

Level Limit: Active. Must deposit any Pokemon over the limit. May still be used in the event of going above the limit during the trial itself.
  • Totem Raticate: 12
  • Hala: 15
  • Totem Wishiwashi: 20
  • Totem Salazzle: 22
  • Totem Lurantis: 24
  • Olivia: 27

Clauses
  • Training Clause: May give Lucky Eggs to newly hatched Pokemon. Remove them upon reaching the previous trial's level limit. Allows any Retired Pokemon to assist in leveling, if desired.
  • Shiny Clause: May catch any shiny Pokemon. Grants immunity to Wonder Trade effects to all shiny Pokemon.
  • White Flag Clause: May choose to retire the current team in the event of wiping three times to a given obstacle. Clear all Wonder Card effects. Get a new team. Draw one Wonder Card, plus half of the number drawn during this leg (rounded down). (Exists to circumvent unwinnable scenarios. Hopes to not use it.)
  • No Pacisfism Clause: Permits using a TM once on a Pokemon in the event of all Pokemon having no attacking moves. Allows one TM purchase, provided no other TMs help. May retire the entire team in the event that TMs do not fix this.
Fired up the spreadsheet of available Pokemon. Contains most Pokemon, but not all. Gave many of them egg moves, Hidden Abilities, and/or good Individual Values. Grabbed 75 random Pokemon without repeats. Bred them with a Ditto (usually foreign) with four maximum Individual Values. Set the Everstone and Destiny Knot chance at 25% each.

Note: Switched Kanto Digglett's Everstone to "Yes". Cannot breed one without it. Worked out without intervention on the other two.
Determines the Wonder Card through a random number generator. Picks between 1 and 106.

Split Wonder Cards into five categories: Negative, Retire, Positive, Other, and Legendary. Presumes the first four to be self-explanatory. Labeled cards with big effects as "Legendary". Removes a Legendary card from the deck upon drawing AND applying them.

Draws a new card if the current card is not possible to fulfill. Redraws in the event of getting a card twice in the same update AND not having a stacking effect. (Example: Grabs a new card for a second "Numb", but not for "Brainshock".)

Listed all possible cards below.

Negative
(1-5) Picture Postcard: Give two random Pokemon the Strange Souvenir item to hold until the end of the next trial.
(6-7) Unconscious: Deposit a random Pokemon until the end of the next trial. Do not grab an egg to replace it. Do not apply any additional Wonder Card effects to this Pokemon while deposited.
(8-11) Brainshock: Delete all of a random Pokemon's moves that are not of its type(s). Select a move at random to remain, in the event of knowing no moves of its type(s).
(12-13) Made Something Spin Round: Cannot use Technical Machines until the end of the next trial.
(14-15) No Inventory Space: Cannot pick up items on the ground until the end of the next trial.
(16-18) Numb: Cannot use Bag items in-battle until the end of the next trial.
(19-23) Solidified: Cannot switch Pokemon until the end of the next trial.
(24-27) Ness's Position: Choose a random Pokemon. Put them in the front. Cannot change its position until the end of the next trial.
(28-31) Blue Blue: May only select moves as if holding a Choice item until the end of the next trial.
(32-35) Offense Down: Lower this trial's level limit by 1. Ignore this card and redraw if this puts any Pokemon above the level limit.
(36-38) Protractor: Toss a Pokeball or Adrenaline Orb on the first turn of the upcoming trial. (Ignore "Numb" for this turn, if necessary.) Does not count towards the item limit.
(39-40) Mole Playing Rough: Cannot evolve any Pokemon during this update. Deposit any Pokemon that does until the end of the next trial.

Retire
(41-43) Ayaaaeee! A Dung Beetle!: Retire a Pokemon of the least represented type.
(44-47) Return to the Minch Household: Retire a Pokemon of the most represented type.
(48-49) Department Store Kidnapping: Retire the Pokemon with the highest stat between Attack and Special Attack.
(50-51) A Pile of Fluff: Retire the Pokemon with the highest stat between Defense and Special Defense.
(52-54) Time for a Flea Bath: Put up a poll. Retire the Pokemon with the most votes.
(55-59) Stuck in Trees: Retire a random Pokemon.
(60) Friends from the Future: Wonder Trade a random Pokemon. Continue until obtaining one at the same level or lower as the original.

Positive
(61-63) Multi Bottle Rocket: Enables Z-moves until the end of the next trial.
(64-65) Neutralizer: Nullify one card of your choice. Cannot choose a Legendary card. Remains effective until at the conclusion of two trials from now.
(66-69) Apple Kid's Invention: Buy any one TM from a shop.
(70-72) Sudden Guts Pill: Add 2 hearts to a random Pokemon in Pokemon Refresh. Add only 1 for any Pokemon hatched from Olivia onward.
(73-74) Surprise Release?: Change the battle style to Switch until the end of the next trial.
(75-80) Orange Kid's Invention: Return a Retired Pokemon of your choice to the supply.
(77-78 when possible) Rock Candy: Place a random Pokemon in Poke Pelago for 25 sessions of Effort Value training.
(79-80 when possible) Mining for Buried Gold: Send out an expedition in Poke Pelago.

Other
(81-84) Cup of Coffee: Buy something at a Pokemon Center Cafe.
(83-84 when possible) Bowl of Rice Gruel: Sell 10000 Pokedollars worth of normal healing items (or until out). Purchase an equivalent amount of herbal healing items.
(85-87) Your Name?: Rename a random Pokemon.
(88-89) Sports Store: Buy and wear at least two new articles of clothing.
(90-91) Mint Flavor: Get a random hair color and style.
(92-93) Belch's Password: Go to Route 3. Wait in front of the waterfall for three minutes.
(94-97) Fresh Egg: Put two compatible party Pokemon into the daycare. Add the resulting egg to the supply.
(98-99) Too Many Sprites Onscreen: Change the text speed to Slow until the end of the next trial.
(100) Paint Attack: Create some form of art for a random Pokemon.

Legendary
(101) Flying Men: Use any number of Retired Pokemon until the end of the next trial.
(102) Zombie Hotel Trap: Retire all Pokemon in the party.
(103) Photo Man: Create some form of art featuring the entire team.
(104) Climb over the Gate: Put up a poll. Give spectators two votes. Keep the two Pokemon with the most votes. Retire the rest.
(105) Mani Mani's Influence: Draw three additional cards. Add one point to all card drawing categories. Ignore any other Legendary cards as a result of this. (Will not count those Legendaries being drawn. Pick a new card for any Legendaries, also.)
(106) Mu Training: Reduce all of your Pokemon to red health levels just before the next trial. Unequip any Leftovers, Black Sludges, Shell Bells, and hitpoint restoring berries. Cannot use any hitpoint restoring items in-battle until the end of the trial. (Permits status restoring items and healing moves like Recover. Will save before attempting the trial. Resets in the event of losing.)
Audience Participation
Gives all of you some sway over this challenge. Draws additional cards based on your whims. Post OR use a reaction to indicate what you want. Listed what each reaction corresponds to below.
:surprisedazurill:: 1 Wonder Card
:nanihmmazurill:: 1 Negative Point
:sadazurill:: 1 Retire Point
:hearteyesazurill:: 1 Positive Point
:hmmazurill:: 1 Other Point

Draws a random Negative card for every 2 Negative Points. Selects a random Retire, Positive, or Other card for every 3 points in their respective categories. Carries over between updates.

Counts any post or reaction on the most recent whole-numbered update (including Update 0). (May post tiny updates to notify spectators about a poll or delay. Labels those as 2.1 or something similar.)

Note: Will check for posts/reactions prior to playing AND before the trial. Saves any Wonder Cards from new posts/reactions between the trial and posting the update for the start of the next update.
____

Concludes all the particulars. Do you wish to hear that again? Yes No Proceeds to egg thoughts and the setup update.
Posted the list of Pokemon in egg details.
  • Looks like a good mix. Ended a little high on Normal and Water, as expected, but not terrible. Snuck three Dragons in at the end.
  • Would have liked Shelmet :shelmet: alongside Karrablast :karrablast:.
  • Missed the Moody Pokemon :remoraid::snorunt:. Tagged both Protean users :froakie::kecleon:, one Contrary user :fomantis:, and Inner Focus Darumaka :darumaka:, though.
  • Sighs. Wobbuffet :wobbuffet:. Skipped over Magikarp :magikarp: and Pyukumuku :pyukumuku:, at least.
  • Never saw many Kanto variants in the sample egg batches. Showed up this time.
Hopes to hatch now: Defiant Piplup
Hopes to hatch later: Zen Mode Darmanitan :darmanitanzen:
Hopes to not hatch: Wobbuffet :wobbuffet:
Generated an 8 for the trainer. Chose the female trainer on the far right. Named them Paula.

The year: 201X.
Iki Town, a small town in Alola
Paula's house

"Are you pumped to see some Alolan Pokemon?" About that...

What an annoying doorbell. Who could that be at this hour?

Sighs. Engage Chicken Hat. Where is a Mr. Baseball Cap when you need one?

"Woo, that's a stylin' hat, cousin!" Shush. Stop being Pokey so much.

Too bad about Meowth not coming along. Would have been really similar to Earthbound then.

Investigated the Meteorite with...Picky? Will shoehorn Earthbound into this less upon actually starting the challenge. Probably.

Survived the bridge collapse thanks to Buzz Buzz. (Repeats sort of like Tapu Koko.) Received the Sparkling Stone Sound Stone from them.

Escorted Picky back to their house.

Capitalized "Plank Bridge". Must be its actual name.

Pulled a random number: 2. Chose Litten :litten:. Female. Rash Nature.

Fit two cats (Litten and Meowth) into one scene. Probably matches the total number of cats in Earthbound. Struggled a bit when naming cat Pokemon, consequently. (Picked out names for all 75 already. Cuts down on the interruption while playing.)

Accepted 10 Pokeballs from Kukui. Found another on the ground. Caught several Pokemon at Route 1.

"Here. A little pocket money for you. Don't go wasting it on anything too silly." Does ~65 more Pokeballs qualify as too silly?

Reached the Pokemon Center. Bought 101 Pokeballs (plus 3 Premier) for 20200 Pokedollars. Did not expect to afford them all.

Started the catch-a-thon in earnest. Chucked 98 Pokeballs to capture 75 Pokemon.

Warmed up eggs at the Hot Springs in Ultra Sun, in the meantime. Ought to hatch in a single step.

Transferred all 75 eggs plus six Lucky Eggs.

Pinged the random number generator for egg selections. Prevents fishing for a specific Pokemon based on its ball. (Examples: Remembers Elekid :elekid: in a Quick Ball :quickball:, Dratini :dratini: in a Lure Ball :lureball:, and Darumaka :darumaka: in a Great Ball :greatball:.) Mixed them up a bit still. Yielded eggs 16, 48, and 10.

Buneary :buneary::healball:
Name: Statue
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Limber
Moves: Fake Out, Low Kick, Power-Up Punch, and Ice Punch

Minun :minun::moonball:
Name: Exit Mouse
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Volt Absorb
Moves: Wish, Discharge, Sweet Kiss, and Tearful Look

Skorupi :skorupi::ultraball:
Name: Skelpion
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Sniper
Moves: Screech, Poison Tail, Confuse Ray, and Night Slash

Ought to massacre Totem Raticate, provided nothing changes. Received two shaky natures, but good abilities.

Current play time in Moon: 4:31.

Ends it here to allow Wonder Cards during the first leg. Wonders if any Pokemon will retire before doing anything.
Question to spectators: Poses this challenge's version of Use, Store, Release to you. Among the 75 eggs, which Pokemon would you want now, later, and never?

Phew. That was a lot to process. Huge props for coming up with all of this AND breeding 75 eggs to use for this challenge.

Your team's not looking bad for the beginning of the game, especially with those amazing egg moves. A little unfortunate about the Adamant nature on Minun but bad natures tend to matter a little less in-game since you aren't facing opponents with perfect IVs/EVs and beneficial natures.

Either way, I really enjoyed reading through the first update so you get a positive point from me! :hearteyesazurill: (I hope that's how this works at least??)

Yes. Accepts the :hearteyesazurill: reaction under Like too. Understands not wanting to post every time.

I'm a lot more interested in this challenge than another nuzlocke variant, if I'm honest. I'll definitely check in now and then, I wish you the best of luck! Looks like you'll be needing it in this run.

This looks super interesting! Props to you for coming up with this. Must have taken a lot of preparation to get this started. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this! (And giving points, of course)

This sounds really interesting to me, so I'd be happy to follow along! Major kudos for coming up with this challenge and reporting it so thoroughly.
I have two questions remaining though:
  • Do points directed to 'Wonder Card' lead to completely random cards? I also assume this is when you could possibly draw Legendary cards?
  • Did you come up with the Wonder Card names and effects yourself? Or is it a system already present in Pokemon or Earthbound?
I'd say your team is looking pretty solid right now! Especially that Adamant Skorupi should turn into a true force of nature.

If I would have to choose a Pokemon to start off with on this challenge, it would probably be Heracross :heracross:. It's an incredibly good Pokemon, especially at the start of the game. A Pokemon like Bagon :bagon: would probably be better to obtain later in the game, since it only becomes really after evolving into Salamence. Finally, I'd probably sack Combee :combee: from the list, as it has a whopping 80% chance to be male and, as such, completely useless (that is, if you can't reset to obtain a female; if you can, it'd probably be Audino :audino:).

Apologies for the delay. Felt terrible yesterday. Recovered enough to play today. (Looks forward to this, after the setup.)

@Calaf
  • Yes. Draws a completely random Wonder Card for every post/reaction towards "Wonder Card". Only receives Legendary cards through the full random Wonder Cards.
  • Thought of using Wonder Cards because of various Marriland (the streamer) challenges. (Example: Sun/Moon Wonder Deck.) Structured these cards similarly. Stole some effects from there. Came up with all names and several effects personally, though.
:surprisedazurill:Wonder Card: 0/1
:hearteyesazurill:Positive Points: 2/3
:hmmazurill:Other Points: 2/3
:nanihmmazurill:Negative Points: 0/2
:sadazurill:Retire Points: 0/3

Thank you for all of the posts and reactions.
Ought to explain the names for Pokemon so far. Grabbed images from Starmen.net.

Blocks you with Rabbit Statues :buneary:. Finds no other rabbits in the game.
4496

Gives you Exit Mice :minun: in long dungeons (and occasionally elsewhere). Acts like an Escape Rope.
4495

Finds Skelpions :skorupi: in the desert.
4498

Did not reach any additional Wonder Cards through posts/reactions. Draws just the usual one random Wonder Card per update.

Generated a random number. Came up 48.
(48-49) Department Store Kidnapping: Retire the Pokemon with the highest stat between Attack and Special Attack.

How appropriate, given the trainer. Who is the unlucky one? 6 attack and special attack on Statue :buneary:. 6 attack and 5 special attack on Exit Mouse :minun:. 6 attack and 4 special attack on Skelpion :skorupi:. Tied with a high water mark of 6. Chooses randomly between them, per the rules.

Random number: 1. Poor Statue. Would have trivialized this update alone. Saved on friendship farming, at least. (Sort of prefers this, though, due to never using the other two.)

Replaces Statue with a new egg. Random number: 34.

Royal Guard the Yamask :yamask::ultraball:
Nature: Sassy
Ability: Mummy
Moves: Astonish, Protect, Nasty Plot, and Memento.

Named them Royal Guard because of its overworld sprite.
4497

Interesting. Awful for this island, but interesting.

Entered the Trainers' School. Grabbed the Experience Share. Backtracked to Route 1.

First battle: Exit Mouse versus level 2 Caterpie. Defeated it in three Discharges. Started much better than the Castform Solo already.

Ran from a level 3 Yungoos. Hit everyone on the team hard, minus a Yamask stalemate. May not be a Nuzlocke. Tries to keep fainting to a minimum.

Leveled everyone to 5. Feels disappointed by the lack of Sniper criticals from Skelpion :skorupi:, despite two increased critical chance moves. Replaced Skelpion's Confuse Ray with Knock Off too. Nerfed confusion too much to rely on in Generation 7.

Stepped back into the Trainers' School. Did not expect a level 8 Pikipek. Handled it in two Discharges, regardless.

Bad move, Bonsly. Copycatted Exit Mouse's :minun: Discharge. Triggered the first Volt Absorb already.

Lost Skelpion :skorupi: to a critical Bite from Alolan Grimer. Hit for at least 17 damage (of Skelpion's 22 hitpoints).

Turned the Experience Share off. Remembers this section being tight on levels.

Volt Absorb #2 on Magnemite.

Grows weary of these criticals on Skelpion :skorupi:. When does Skelpion get one? Spent two Potions versus Alolan Meowth. Struggled hard against it (partially due to level 6 versus 9), even with a Tearful Look on it.

"Pokemon become happier when we show them some care." Reads the red part as more sinister. Yandere Hala?

Wait, is there no tutorial for the Poke Fi--never mind.

Thank goodness for not using thumbs-ups for cards. Received 810 of them from taking a picture.

Forgot how often they stopped you on Melemele. Tauros! The beach! Rotom pictures! Rotom pictures tutorial! Clothes!

Disengage Chicken Hat. Considers 7900 for a White Trilby Hat totally worth it.

...Did that Team Skull Grunt have Zubat in a Safari Ball :safariball:? Fancy.

Challenged Ilima with Exit Mouse :minun: at level 9 and the others :yamask::skorupi: at 8.
Turn 1: :skorupi: Screech / :yungoos: Leer
Turn 2: :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%) / :yungoos: Leer
Turn 3: :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%) / :yungoos: Tackle (13/26)
Turn 4: :yungoos: Potion / :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%)
Turn 5: :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)
Turn 6: :skorupi: Switch :minun: / :smeargle: Tackle (19/32)
Turn 7: :smeargle: Tackle (6/32) / :minun: Tearful Look
Turn 8: :minun: Potion #1 (26/32) / :smeargle: Tackle (17/32)
Turn 9: :smeargle: Tackle (8/32) / :minun: Tearful Look
Turn 10: :smeargle: Tackle (1/32) / :minun: Discharge (40%)
Turn 11: :minun: Potion #2 (21/32) / :smeargle: Tackle (14/32)
Turn 12: :smeargle: Tackle (7/32) / :minun: Wish
Turn 13: :minun: Switch :yamask: / :smeargle: Tackle (immune)
Turn 14: :yamask: Switch :skorupi: / :smeargle: Water Gun (8/26)
Turn 15: :smeargle: Tackle (2/26) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (35%)
Turn 16: :skorupi: Potion #3 (22/26) / :smeargle: Tackle (16/26)
Turn 17: :smeargle: Tackle / :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)

Whew. Misremembered how long Wish takes. Clearly rarely uses it, despite it being a fine move. Avoids using Memento unless at a steep disadvantage, also.

Learned new moves on everyone for defeating Smeargle. Taught Skelpion :skorupi: Pin Missile over Knock Off, Haze to Royal Guard :yamask:, and Encore to Exit Mouse :minun:.

Stinks to be a ghost Pokemon. Ran into a lot of normal types and things with Dark or Ghost moves. And just after writing this, Pursuit. When does Royal Guard's suffering end?

Skipped Hau'oli Cemetary to keep levels down.

1/8 chance for a critical, Skelpion. Probably exceeded 16 attacks by now. Are you waiting for 1/24 Pin Missile criticals on Raticate?

Now Butterfree in a Friend Ball :friendball:? What are all of these fancy balls? Showed in the trainer's portrait too. Approves of that attention to detail.

Ran into the first barrier. Brings some dialogue from Earthbound to mind. "The road to Twoson is closed. You can't just squeeze through road blocks, either. Onett is famous for roadblocks!"

Switched on the Experience Share briefly. Flipped it back off upon hitting level 11 on everyone. Entered Verdant Cavern at those levels.

Did not expect Brick Break on Skorupi. Will keep Pin Missile for now, though. Fears the Brainshock card a bit. Fares well against Raticate still.

Faced down Totem Raticate with Skelpion :skorupi: at 12 and the rest at 11 :minun::yamask:
Turn 1: :alolanraticate: Bite (26/35) / :skorupi: Screech
Turn 2: :alolanrattata: Quick Attack (19/35) / :alolanraticate: Bite (10/35) / :skorupi: Pin Missile at Raticate (three hits, 100%)
Turn 3: :skorupi: Pin Missile at Rattata (two hits, 100%)

Good showing. Hit level 13 on Skelpion :skorupi: from the fight.

Touched the Sound Stone to their forehead.
4494

(Lacks the skills to add swirly balls to highlight areas. Works well enough, though. Spends 3 seconds with everything gray, 3 seconds per lit-up area, and 7 seconds of everything gray at the end. Loops back from there.)

Concludes this update. Thank you for reading. Farewell for now.
Skelpion :skorupi:
Level: 13

37 Hitpoints, 17 Attack, 19 Defense, 18 Special Attack, 27 Special Defense, 27 Speed

Royal Guard :yamask:

Ah, yes. I saw Marriland use them on his Wondersleeplocke. Anyway, seems like you're off to a solid start! I don't feel like skewing the game either way right now, so I put in a point for a random card. Keep it up!

Totals before the update
:surprisedazurill:Wonder Card: 2/1
:hearteyesazurill:Positive Points: 2/3
:hmmazurill:Other Points: 4/3
:nanihmmazurill:Negative Points: 0/2
:sadazurill:Retire Points: 0/3

Means three random Wonder Cards and one Other. Promises to be a lot more interesting. Never specified a card drawing order. Will take the Other card first.

Other draw: 83. (81-84) Cup of Coffee: Buy something at a Pokemon Center Cafe.
Simple enough. Currently...23 o'clock in Alola. Sure. Bought a Tapu Cocoa for 198. "You'll love it iced, too." Do people do that with normal hot chocolate? Obtained a Sweet Heart and some Poke Beans also.

Wonder Card draw: 60. (60) Friends from the Future: Wonder Trade a random Pokemon. Continue until obtaining one at the same level or lower as the original.
Aw. Loses someone to the void. Random number: 2. Exit Mouse :minun:. Gives someone a Volt Absorb Minun, at least.

...Oh, right. The Festival Plaza tutorial. Hit up both lottery shops. Won a Full Heal and a Max Elixir. Now then, the Wonder Trade. Please no Magikarp.

Eren from England. Into Wonder Trades. Received...Charmander. Okay then. Appreciates a Fire type, given the low number in the supply. Needs a name. Cannot officially name them, unfortunately.

Psycho the Charmander :charmander:
Level: 1
Nature: Rash
Ability: Solar Power (fancy)
Moves: Scratch, Growl, and Flare Blitz

Named them after the Psychic Psycho. Launches a lot of PSI Fire attacks.
4531

Next Wonder Card: 89. (88-89) Sports Store: Buy and wear at least two new articles of clothing.

So much for having money. Leveled Psycho :charmander: up to 9 on the walk there. Bought Blue Pleated Shorts and the Alola Sea Tank for a combined 1960. Not too bad.

Final Wonder Card: 31. (28-31) Blue Blue: May only select moves as if holding a Choice item until the end of the next trial.
...Just purchased blue clothes. Engage Happy Happyism.
4532

Increased Psycho :charmander: to level 12 on the return trip to Route 2. Will need to be careful with this boosted experience.

Oh, hey. First critical for Skelpion :skorupi:. Destroyed a Crabrawler :crabrawler:. And now critical #2 on a jerkface 5 Fury Swipe (with one critical) Mankey with a successful SOS call at full health. Take that. ...Critical #3 on the ally? Wow. Almost feels like an actual Choice item equipped. Blue blue.

Hates SOS already. Stop successfully calling at green health.

Uh oh. Skirted around the Psyduck trainer the first time. Ran into them on the way to heal. Acted too slow to bring up the menu to heal too. Royal Guard :yamask: at 26/32, Skelpion :skorupi: at 14/37, and Psycho :charmander: at 32/32.

Round 1: :psyduck: Water Gun (16/32) / :yamask: Memento :faintedazurill:
Round 2: :skorupi: Potion (34/37) / :psyduck: Water Gun (28/37)
Round 3: :skorupi: Poison Tail (35%) / :psyduck: Water Gun (22/37)
Round 4: :skorupi: Poison Tail (35%) / :psyduck: Water Gun (16/37)
Round 5: :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)

Improved to level 14 on Skelpion :skorupi:. Level limit 15. Needs them so bad for Hala. Shied away from battles.

Whittled down a wild Oricorio :oricoriopompom: with Royal Guard :yamask:. Ended at -5 Attack and 3/15 Astonishes. Ran from the SOS partner. Managed to defeat something alone, though.

Did not remember if Hau battled you outside Melemele Meadow in normal Sun/Moon. Appears so.

Round 1: :pikachu: Growl / :yamask: Astonish (8%)
Round 2: :pikachu: Electro Ball (21/34) / :yamask: Astonish (8%)
Round 3: :yamask: Switch :skorupi: / :pikachu: Growl
Round 4: :pikachu: Electro Ball (29/39) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%)
Round 5: :pikachu: Electro Ball (20/39) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%) (Static)
Round 6: :pikachu: Quick Attack (16/39) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)
(Level 13 for Royal Guard. Taught Night Shade so fast. Bye, Astonish.)
Round 7: :skorupi: Switch :yamask: / :rowlet: Peck (18/37) (Mummy)
Round 8: :rowlet: Leafage (12/37) / :yamask: Night Shade (30%)
Round 9: :yamask: Potion (32/37) / :rowlet: Peck (26/37)
Round 10: :rowlet: Peck (20/37) / :yamask: Night Shade (30%)
Round 11: :rowlet: Leafage (14/37) / :yamask: Night Shade (30%)
Round 12: :rowlet: Astonish (8/37) / :yamask: Night Shade (the rest)

Worried about Psycho :charmander: jumping too close to level 16. Already went from 12 to 14 on one Oricorio. Chose Royal Guard :yamask: for Rowlet :rowlet: instead. Panicked a bit on that ending Astonish.

Cleaned out Hau'oli Cemetary to reach level 15 on everyone. Felt so nice to see Royal Guard hit things for actual damage. Gave Oran Berries to Psycho :charmander: and Skelpion :skorupi:.

Likens Hala to the Onett Police Force. Acts like the law around Melemele. Fights the police just after Giant Step (the first Sanctuary location). Uses crushing chops, submission holds, and "Super Ultra Mambo Tango Foxtrot Martial Arts". Sounds like Hala.

Round 1: :mankey: Focus Energy / :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%)
Round 2: :mankey: Pursuit (36/41) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%)
Round 3: :mankey: Super Potion (heal to 100%) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (critical, 95%) (Triggered Mankey's Anger Point)
Round 4: :mankey: Pursuit (14/41) (:skorupi:Oran Berry heal to 24/41) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)
Round 5: :makuhita: Fake Out (19/41) / :skorupi: Flinch
Round 6: :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%) / :makuhita: Sand Attack
Round 7: :skorupi: Poison Tail (40%) / :makuhita: Arm Thrust (two hits, 17/41)
Round 8: :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)
Round 9: :skorupi: Potion (37/41) / :crabrawler: Leer
Round 10: :skorupi: Poison Tail (15%) / :crabrawler: Leer
Round 11: :skorupi: Switch :charmander: / :crabrawler: Pursuit (8/41 on :skorupi:)
Round 12: :charmander: Flare Blitz (35%, some amount of recoil) / :crabrawler: All-Out Pummeling (critical, the rest)
Round 13: :skorupi: Super Potion (41/41) / :crabrawler: Pursuit (33/41)
Round 14: :skorupi: Poison Tail (15%, poison) / :crabrawler: Pursuit (26/41)
Round 15: :crabrawler: Full Heal / :skorupi: Poison Tail (15%)
Round 16: :skorupi: Poison Tail (the rest)

Such a scary fight. Saw Anger Point, a -2 Defense Pursuit while switching, and a critical Z-move. Almost switched from Psycho :charmander: to Royal Guard :yamask: to predict the Z move. Figured it might try Bubble, though. (Does not actually know that, unfortunately.)

"I'm amazed that you won without even using your Z-Power." Would have been so useless, even with the Wonder Card enabling it. Knows Scratch, Growl, and Screech. Combines terribly with the Choice effect too. Did not really mind the Choice effect, also. Worried about accidentally forgetting it.

Defeated Hala. Increases team size from 3 to 4. Ends this update with a new egg.

Egg number 6. Hm. Dusk Ball. Rhyhorn? Hopes not, considering the next trial.

Li'l Ghost the Shuppet :shuppet::duskball:
Nature: Quirky
Ability: Frisk
Moves: Knock Off, Shadow Sneak, Phantom Force, and Gunk Shot.

Named them after a status condition. Occasionally finds ghost enemies that attempt to possess you. Gives you a Tiny Li'l Ghost, if successful. Adds an untargetable monster to every battle. Either hits you for very weak damage or solidifies you for a turn. Cannot clear it with PSI Healing. Cures it through Healers at a hospital or from an enemy targeting your entire party with an attack.

Thank you for reading and for the reactions. Farewell for now.
Skelpion the Skorupi :skorupi:
Level: 15
41 Hitpoints, 25 Attack, 32 Defense, 12 Special Attack, 26 Special Defense, 27 Speed
Moves: Screech, Poison Tail, Pin Missile, and Night Slash

Psycho the Charmander :charmander:
Level: 15
38 Hitpoints, 23 Attack, 22 Defense, 26 Special Attack, 21 Special Defense, 28 Speed
Moves: Scratch, Growl, Flare Blitz, and Ember

Royal Guard the Yamask :yamask:
Level: 15
41 Hitpoints, 18 Attack, 35 Defense, 22 Special Attack, 28 Special Defense, 14 Speed
Moves: Night Shade, Haze, Nasty Plot, and Memento

Li'l Ghost the Shuppet :shuppet:
Level: 1
12 Hitpoints, 6 Attack, 5 Defense, 6 Special Attack, 5 Special Defense, 6 Speed
Moves: Knock Off, Shadow Sneak, Phantom Force, and Gunk Shot.
Total cards drawn: 5
In-battle items:

(Not a typo. Named the second Sanctuary spot "Lilliput Steps" in Earthbound.)

Ought to clarify something. Says "the end of the next trial" in Wonder Cards. Refers to the checkpoint boss. Includes Trials, Grand Trials, and the second Lusamine fight.

Totals before the update
:surprisedazurill:Wonder Card: 2/1
:hearteyesazurill:Positive Points: 3/3
:hmmazurill:Other Points: 1/3
:nanihmmazurill:Negative Points: 0/2
:sadazurill:Retire Points: 0/3

Amounts to 3 random and 1 Positive Wonder Cards. Chooses the Positive first. Might get Neutralizer.

Random Positive number: 65. (64-65) Neutralizer: Nullify one card of your choice. Cannot choose a Legendary card. Remains effective until at the conclusion of two trials from now.
Called it. Sticks around until Salazzle's demise (or used, obviously).

Random number: 75. (75-80) Orange Kid's Invention: Return a Retired Pokemon of your choice to the supply.
(Worked on turning Boiled Eggs into Fresh Eggs. Never completed it.) Only one option: Statue :buneary:. Might get them again down the road. Considers this card a bit boring, due to having a shot in the dark of mattering. Stands a high chance of changing or powering up, in the event of reusing this deck.

Random number: 60. (60) Friends from the Future: Wonder Trade a random Pokemon. Continue until obtaining one at the same level or lower as the original.
Again? Hm. Almost Neutralized it immediately. Will check the Pokemon before deciding to Neutralize. Random number: 1. Skelpion :skorupi:. No. Neutralizer.

Random number: 47. (44-47) Return to the Minch Household: Retire a Pokemon of the most represented type.
Surprising. Expected this card to be a random pick quite often. Royal Guard :yamask: or Li'l Ghost :shuppet:? Selects Royal Guard :yamask:. Departs just before learning Hex, but oh well. Knows several useful moves, like Haze. Could get bailed out by Memento. Felt far too weak in your debut, though.

New egg: 69. Not far off from Statue (#64 currently). (Mixes them around a bit before every new egg.)

Chomposaur the Druddigon :druddigon::ultraball:
Nature: Modest (Really?)
Ability: Sheer Force
Moves: Sucker Punch, Poison Tail, Thunder Fang, and Glare.

Fights two dinosaurs in the game. Resembles a dragon. Considered this name for several Pokemon. Fit Druddigon the best.
4563

Wondered how to handle Totem Wishiwashi. Answers that. Apparently gave the Destiny Knot to its parent. Feels sad about the awful nature, though.

Rolled out Royal Guard :yamask: to train Li'l Ghost :shuppet: and Chomposaur :druddigon:, per Training Clause. Settled on Ten Carat Hill's entrance. Appreciates those Lucky Eggs already. Dropped Memento for Hex on Royal Guard :yamask:. Learned it after all. Concluded training with Royal Guard :yamask: at 18, Li'l Ghost :shuppet: at 15, and Chomposaur :druddigon: at 14.

Backtracked to grab the Infestation and Thief Technical Machines. Opted not to visit Seaward Cave yet. Replaced Knock Off with Thief on Li'l Ghost :shuppet:. Chose between that and Skelpion's :skorupi: Night Slash. Why? Leftovers from Route 1 Munchlax :munchlax:. Holds it 100% of the time. Appears at a mere 5% chance in Sun/Moon (versus 10% in Ultra). Stole 4 Leftovers, 1 Pecha Berry, and 1 Oran Berry across approximately 44 encounters. (Thanks, Frisk.) Not too shabby. Say hello to combat log bloat.

Scaled Ten Carat Hill for the Acrobatics Technical Machine. Caught Chomposaur :druddigon: up at level 15 along the way. Blows everyone else out of the water with 39 Attack (versus 30 Attack :shuppet:, 25 Attack :skorupi:, and 26 Special Attack :charmander:), despite the Modest nature. Beats Psycho's :charmander: Special Attack by 1 too.

Huh. Spoke with Hau on the way to the harbor (not a cutscene). Evidently has a living mother. Assumed otherwise. Rambles on about Hala constantly.

Feels weird to not have a beach in Heahea City.

Planned to buy clothes. A. Likes nothing in particular. B. So expensive. Never mind.

Hm. Looked closely at Dexio and Sina. Wears clothes available in stores. Interesting. Fought Sina, also. Level 15 for everyone.
Round 1: :delibird: Present (47/52) / :druddigon: Thunder Fang (100%)
(Leftovers heal to 50/52)
Round 2: :druddigon: Switch :charmander: / :glaceon: Quick Attack (32/40)
(Leftovers heal to 34/40)
Round 3: :charmander: Flare Blitz (60%) (Recoil: 24/40) / :glaceon: Icy Wind (11/40, -1 speed)
(Leftovers heal to 13/40)
Round 4: :charmander: Switch :shuppet: / :glaceon: Quick Attack (immune)
Round 5: :glaceon: Icy Wind (12/42, -1 speed)) / :shuppet: Phantom Force
(Leftovers heal to 14/42)
Round 6: :glaceon: Icy Wind (miss) / :shuppet: Phantom Force (35%)
(Leftovers heal to 16/42)
Round 7: :shuppet: Shadow Sneak (the rest)

Dragon Rage on Psycho :charmander:? Yes, please. Farewell, Scratch. Overwrote Thief for Will-o-Wisp on Li'l Ghost for now too.

Ooh. :charmander: First evolution :charmeleon:. Wait at the hotel a little longer, Lillie. Sailed back to Hau'oli City. Endangered everyone by riding a Tauros through the streets for 20+ minutes. Taught Psycho :charmeleon: Fire Pledge.

Stared at the Technical Machines shop. Cannot buy any, due to shop restrictions. Wanted to look. Missed out on nothing stellar...yet.

Somehow managed to hit the Power button around here. Involved a chain reaction of things falling. Returned to before the Sina battle. Caused no physical damage, at least. Cue another 20 minute session of running around.

Caught back up. Battled Hau with Psycho :charmeleon: at 18, Chomposaur :druddigon: at 16, and the rest :shuppet::skorupi: at 17
Round 1: :pikachu: Electro Ball (33/46) / :skorupi: Screech
(Leftovers heal to 35/46)
Round 2: :pikachu: Electro Ball (23/46) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (80%)
(Leftovers heal to 25/46)
Round 3: :pikachu: Electro Ball (13/46) / :skorupi: Poison Tail (critical, the rest) (Static)
(Leftovers heal to 15/46)
Round 4: :skorupi: Switch :shuppet: / :dartrix: Peck (35/47)
(Leftovers heal to 37/47)
Round 5: :dartrix: Peck (25/47) / :shuppet: Gunk Shot (65%)
(Leftovers heal to 27/47)
Round 6: :dartrix: Peck (15/47) / :shuppet: Phantom Force
(Leftovers heal to 17/47)
Round 7: :dartrix: Razor Leaf (miss) / :shuppet: Phantom Force (34%)
(Leftovers heal to 19/47)
Round 8: :shuppet: Shadow Sneak (the rest)

Hoped to dodge the Z-move. No dice.

"You know how sometimes you seem to be alone, but you feel like someone's watching you? Do you think that's the guardian watching?" Probably just the Miltank.

Messed up a lot against the Full Restore Carbink :carbink: trainer. Tried Dragon Rage and Screech against it.

Almost skipped the Scope Lens. Who needs another hold item with all these Leftovers? Skelpion :skorupi:.

Hidden Power Dark on Chomposaur :druddigon:, Psychic on Psycho :charmeleon:, Grass on Skelpion :skorupi:, and Grass on Li'l Ghost :shuppet:. Smiled at Psycho's.

Taught Dragon Rage to Chomposaur :druddigon: too. Axed Poison Tail due to already having enough poison moves.

Come on, Gladion. Reprimands you for giving your name. Immediately says theirs. Enters at Level 18 across the board.
Round 1: :zubat: Bite (31/49) / :shuppet: Flinch
Round 2: :shuppet: Switch :druddigon: / :zubat: Bite (56/61)
(Leftovers heal to 59/61)
Round 3: :zubat: Wing Attack (52/61) / :druddigon: Thunder Fang (100%)
(Leftovers heal to 55/61)
Round 4: :typenull: Tackle (45/61) / :druddigon: Glare
(Leftovers heal to 48/61)
Round 5: :druddigon: Dragon Rage (55%) / :typenull: Paralyzed
(Leftovers heal to 51/61)
Round 6: :druddigon: Dragon Rage (the rest)

Looked up to see if Type: Null had Dark moves. Knew Pursuit, like everything in Alola. Expected Crush Claw on it. Apparently not.

Oh. Picked up the Charge Beam Technical Machine. Remembered it moving to the trial area in Ultra. Did not know the original spot.

Is Route 5 in Unova? Feels like such a high encounter rate in the grass.

Obliterated a Morelull :morelull: with a critical Poison Tail. And then its Ledyba :ledyba: friend. Yay for Scope Lens.

Spotted an unusual sign at the front of Brooklet Hill. Is this sign type unique to here? Screenshotted it in a video.

Who thought it was a good idea to put Scald in Brooklet Hill?

Smirks. Fought a wild Psyduck :psyduck: in the rain. Called a Cloud Nine Psyduck. Thanks for the assist.

Thank you for missing two Thunder Fangs before the totem, rather than during.

Fished up Totem Wishiwashi with Chomposaur :druddigon: at level 20. Will not bother listing the rest.
Round 1: :druddigon: Glare / :wishiwashischool: Soak
(New ally: Wishiwashi :wishiwashi:)
Round 2: :druddigon: Thunder Fang at (45% :wishiwashischool:) / :wishiwashi: Aqua Ring / :wishiwashischool: Water Gun (57/67)
(Leftovers heal to 61/67)
Round 3: :wishiwashi: Helping Hand / :druddigon: Dragon Rage (the rest :wishiwashischool::faintedazurill:)
(Leftovers heal to 65/67)
Round 4: :wishiwashi: Helping Hand / :druddigon: Thunder Fang (100%)

Effortless. Glared Round 1 to prevent Alomomola :alomomola: from coming.

Stands a high(er) chance of losing Chomposaur to a Retire card. Leads in highest attacking stat and defensive stat. How amazing is Chomposaur in the positive nature alternate universe?

Pressed the Sound Stone to their forehead.

Thank you for reading and the reactions, as always. Until next time.

Wow a Druddigon looks like it's gonna be a fun one to use!
Honestly I need to stop putting off uni work but god this makes me want to actually finish Earthbound, then I'll understand the references at least heh.
Voted for a positive point for you, best of luck! Hope the future chapters are just as fun-

Totals before the update
:surprisedazurill:Wonder Card: 1/1
:hearteyesazurill:Positive Points: 1/3
:hmmazurill:Other Points: 4/3
:nanihmmazurill:Negative Points: 0/2
:sadazurill:Retire Points: 0/3

One Other and two full randoms. Chooses the Other first.

Random Other number: 95. (94-97) Fresh Egg: Put two compatible party Pokemon into the daycare. Add the resulting egg to the supply.
Not possible, due to all four Pokemon being male. Redraw.

Random Other number: 98. (98-99) Too Many Sprites Onscreen: Change the text speed to Slow until the end of the next trial.
Probably one of the better updates for that. Ought to be fairly short.

Random number: 69. (66-69) Apple Kid's Invention: Buy any one TM from a shop.

Ran back to Heahea. Fought a trainer along the way. Immediately noticed the slow text in battle. Makes the Leftovers more annoying.

...Lost Li'l Ghost :shuppet: to back-to-back Rock Throw criticals from Sudowoodo :sudowoodo:. Returned the favor with a Night Slash critical.

Passed a gaping hole in the buildings. Constructed the surf shack there. May have planned that from the beginning.

Technical Machine options: Light Screen, Protect, Safeguard, Reflect, and Aurora Veil. Chose Protect for Golisopod later.

Random number: 56. (55-59) Stuck in Trees: Retire a random Pokemon.
Random number: 2. Skelpion :skorupi:. Aw. Lived for one update longer. Would have liked them for Totem Lurantis :lurantis:.

Must fill the void. Egg number: 8. Nest Ball :nestball:, so probably Grass.

Apple Kid the Vulpix (Kanto) :vulpix: :nestball:
Nature: Timid
Ability: Drought
Moves: Flare Blitz, Extrasensory, Heat Wave, and Hex.

Never encounters a fox in Earthbound. Fell back on color (or something like it) out of desperation. Just drew their card, coincidentally.
4592

Lucked out with abilities so far. Hesitates to give Lurantis free sunlight, though.

Trained Apple Kid :vulpix: at Route 5 with Skelpion :skorupi:. Suffered through slow text the whole way. (Worst moment: Picking up four berries.) Dropped Flare Blitz for Baby-Doll Eyes, then Will-O-Wisp. Returned to progress with Apple Kid :vulpix: at level 20. Overlaps a lot with Psycho :charmeleon:.

Gave Apple Kid :vulpix: Leftovers (an apple core). Suits them so well.

Oh. Forgot about Technical Machines at Royal Avenue. (Allowed any spot before the trial.) Sells only weather moves, though.

Do they allow you to skip the Battle Royal? Surely not.

Scooped up a Thunder Wave Technical Machine. Such good options.

Recorded this just in case.
Round 1: :kadabra: Psybeam (critical, full to 0/56) / :shuppet: :faintedazurill:
Round 2: :druddigon: Sucker Punch (100%)

Sighs. Really wants Li'l Ghost :shuppet: out of the picture.

Disapproves of Dragon Rage on wild Pokemon. Ignore the fact that two members of the team know it.

Lost Apple Kid :vulpix: to a Rock Blast (three hits) from Roggenrola :roggenrola:. Acknowledges fault for that. Knew of the possibility of bad times. Kept them in to not level Chomposaur :druddigon: too much. Hoped for Extrasensory to do better than 60%, though. Plus side: Remembered Psycho's :charmeleon: Solar Power ability.

Entered the Fire Trial at...a later time. Forces the Battle Royal. Boosted everyone to 22, for the record.
Round 1: :druddigon: Sucker Punch (75% :rockruff:) / :typenull: Tackle (20% :dartrix:) / :rockruff: Rock Throw (miss) / :dartrix: Peck (66/73)
(Leftovers heal to 70/73)
Round 2: :druddigon: Sucker Punch (the rest :rockruff::faintedazurill:) / :typenull: Pursuit (64/73) / :dartrix: Breakneck Blitz (25% :typenull:)

Pretend those numbers are accurate. Cannot keep up, even on Slow text speed.

Likens Salazzle :salazzle: to Master Belch. Causes Nausea, one of several damage-over-time statuses. Hurts as much as Poison. Fits the rough order of playing in Earthbound. May not guard a Sanctuary location. Accesses the third Sanctuary location immediately afterwards, though.

Scrutinized the second dance (with the Hiker interjecting) on the first playthrough. Wondered if it was meant as a distraction.

Led with Chomposaur :druddigon:, of course. Began at 54/73 hitpoints.

Round 1: :salazzle: Toxic / :druddigon: Glare
(New ally: Salandit :salandit:. Leftovers + Poison = 54/73)
Round 2: :druddigon: Sucker Punch (Failed :salandit:) / :salandit: Taunt / :salazzle: Venom Drench
(Leftovers + Poison = 50/73)
Round 3: :druddigon: Switch :charmeleon: / :salandit: Venoshock (40/59) / :salazzle: Venom Drench
(Leftovers heal to 43/59)
Round 4: :charmeleon: Hidden Power (95% :salandit:) / :salandit: Venoshock (22/73) / :salazzle: Toxic
(Leftovers + Poison = 22/59)
Round 5: :charmeleon: Hidden Power (the rest :salandit::faintedazurill:) / :salazzle: Paralyzed
(Leftovers + Poison = 19/59)
(New ally: Salandit :salandit:)
Round 6: :charmeleon: Switch :druddigon: / :salandit: Venoshock (22/73) / :salazzle: Torment
(Leftovers + Poison = 22/73)
Round 7: Antidote :druddigon: / :salandit: Venoshock (6/73) / :salazzle: Venom Drench
(Leftovers heal to 10/73)
Round 8: Super Potion :druddigon: (Heal to 70/73) / :salandit: Venoshock (55/73) / :salazzle: Flame Burst (45/73)
(Leftovers heal to 49/73)
Round 9: :druddigon: Thunder Fang (30% :salazzle:) / :salandit: Venoshock (25/73) / :salazzle: Toxic
(Leftovers + Poison = 25/73)
Round 10: :druddigon: Glare (at :salandit:) / :salandit: Venoshock (0/73 :druddigon::faintedazurill:) / :salazzle: Venom Drench
Round 11: :shuppet: Phantom Force / :salazzle: Flame Burst / :salandit: Taunt
Round 12: :shuppet: Phantom Force (45% :salazzle:) / :salazzle: Paralyzed / :salandit: Taunt
Round 13: :shuppet: Phantom Force / :salazzle: Flame Burst / :salandit: Poison Gas
Round 14: :shuppet: Phantom Force (the rest :salazzle::faintedazurill:) / :salandit: Paralyzed
Round 15: :shuppet: Phantom Force / :salandit: Poison Gas
(Taunt down.)
Round 16: :shuppet: Phantom Force (90%) / :salandit: Taunt
Round 17: :shuppet: Shadow Sneak (the rest)

Original plan: Paralyze Salazzle :salazzle:. Beat up Salandit :salandit: (the damage dealer). Finish Salazzle :salazzle:.

Remembered Ultra's Fire trial too much. Assumed only one ally. Ruined the plan. Wondered if it called Salandits :salandit: infinitely after seeing the second. Switched to focusing on Salazzle :salazzle: instead.

Poor Chomposaur :druddigon:. Barely noticed the paralysis. Went well for Li'l Ghost :shuppet:, at least. Deserved some positive luck.

Pressed the Sound Stone to their forehead.
4594

Expands the team by one upon clearing Salazzle. Egg number: 28.

No. 3 the Diglett (Kanto) :diglett::pokeball:
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Arena Trap
Moves: Scratch, Memento, Pursuit, and Reversal

Named them after a group of five moles. Always claims to be the third strongest. Says "No. 3" in their battle background. (Note: Looks purple due to the Freeze animation.)

Where were you two minutes ago? Oh well. Helps against Olivia later.

Unlocked Poke Pelago. Does not count eggs towards the requirements, unfortunately. Will go on another catch-a-thon between updates. Enables the two Positive cards involving Poke Pelago.

Thank you for reading and for all of the reactions. Farewell for now.
Chomposaur the Druddigon :druddigon:

Caught 52 Pokemon in 73 Pokeballs between updates. Grated more than the first catch-a-thon due to SOS encounters. Snagged a Drifloon and Rockruff for a combined 13000 Pokedollars too. Relied on No. 3's :diglett: low level and moves like Mud Slap. Could not learn False Swipe on anyone.

Note for future decks: Positive card: Add two eggs of your choice to the supply. Must be Pokemon not on the original list. Use your choice of Everstone OR Destiny Knot.
Feels better than adding a retired Pokemon to the supply.

Totals before the update
:surprisedazurill:Wonder Card: 0/1
:hearteyesazurill:Positive Points: 4/3
:hmmazurill:Other Points: 2/3
:nanihmmazurill:Negative Points: 1/2
:sadazurill:Retire Points: 0/3

Means one Positive and one full random. Thank you for all of the reactions, regardless of category.

Random Positive number: 62. (61-63) Multi Bottle Rocket: Enables Z-moves until the end of the next trial.
Oh good. Will be going for style points, barring interference from the full random.

Random number: 77. (77-78 when possible) Rock Candy: Place a random Pokemon in Poke Pelago for 25 sessions of Effort Value training.
Random Pokemon: 2. Chomposaur :druddigon:.
Did not waste all that time catching things. Will undergo training at the end of the update.

Brought No. 3 :diglett: up to level 22. Updated moves: Sucker Punch, Bulldoze, Rock Tomb, and Reversal. Perished twice during training (critical Bite :alolanrattata: and low health Flail :fletchling:). Will not count them in the stats, due to being training. Raises concerns about Olivia later. Evolves before then, though.

Compared stats. 17 Defense for No. 3 :diglett:. Ranges from 27 :shuppet: to 52 :druddigon: on everyone else. Outspeeds everyone else, but at a much smaller margin.

Swapped out Rock Tomb for Thief briefly. Stole the final two Leftovers in 13 wild Pokemon. Backtracked to Seaward Cave for the Expert Belt and Roar Technical Machine too.

Back to plot. Feels confident about this update. Brings two Fire types into Lurantis. Add a Z-move on top of that. Must be careful of the trainers on Route 8, as well of levels.

"If you're able to utilize the power of Flame Charge fully, you'll be able to have a great battle with the totem in the next trial...the trial in Lush Jungle." Nah. Chooses Z-Fire Pledge and an easy battle instead.

Hm. Begins with bad luck. Missed two straight Heat Waves. Hit themselves in confusion 3/4 times. Landed a critical Pluck :trumbeak: on No. 3 :diglett:. (Survived at 9/45. Thanks, Will-O-Wisp burn.) Occurred all in a single trainer battle.

Recorded this just in case. Remembered a Miltank here.
Round 1: :miltank: Rollout (52/60) / :shuppet: Will-O-Wisp
(Leftovers heal to 55/60)
Round 2: :miltank: Rollout (46/60) / :shuppet: Phantom Force
(Leftovers heal to 49/60)
Round 3: :miltank: Rollout (miss) / :shuppet: Phantom Force (immune)
(Leftovers heal to 52/60)
Round 4: :shuppet: Switch :diglett: / :miltank: Rollout (miss)
Round 5: :diglett: Bulldoze (15%) / :miltank: Milk Drink (heal to 100%)
Round 6: :diglett: Bulldoze (15%) / :miltank: Rollout (42/45)
Round 7: :diglett: Bulldoze (15%) / :miltank: Rollout (35/45)
Round 8: :diglett: Reversal (7%) / :miltank: Rollout (22/45)
Round 9: :diglett: Switch :shuppet: / :miltank: Rollout (19/60)
(Leftovers heal to 22/60)
Round 10: :shuppet: Phantom Force / :miltank: Rollout (miss)
(Leftovers heal to 25/60)
Round 11: :shuppet: Phantom Force (immune) / :miltank: Milk Drink (heal to 75%)
(Leftovers heal to 28/60)
Round 12: :shuppet: Gunk Shot (35%) / :miltank: Milk Drink (heal to 90%)
(Leftovers heal to 31/60)
Round 13: :shuppet: Gunk Shot (35%) / :miltank: Rollout (27/60)
(Leftovers heal to 30/60)
Round 14: :shuppet: Gunk Shot (35%) / :miltank: Rollout (22/60)
(Leftovers heal to 25/60)
Round 15: :shuppet: Gunk Shot (the rest)

Felt weird to intentionally use a Ghost move on Miltank.

Hoped for slightly better from No. 3's :diglett: Reversal with the Expert Belt. Evidently equaled 20 power at that health. Explained everything. Becomes 160 power as a Z-move, apparently. Gave No. 3 Fightinium Z.

Nice. Looted a Soft Sand from a dead (Alolan) Diglett.

Close call for Apple Kid :vulpix:. Overestimated Extrasensory's damage on a Mudbray :mudbray:. Hung on with 1 Hitpoint. (Yes, another bad matchup for Apple Kid :vulpix:. Preferred to keep Chomposaur :druddigon: out of the fight. Already witnessed underwhelming results from Li'l Ghost :shuppet: versus Mudbray. Stuck with the special attacker already on the field.)

Lost Li'l Ghost :shuppet: and No. 3 :diglett: to Sylveon :sylveon:. Missed the knockout by 1 Hitpoint twice. What was that thing doing here? Hit very hard, even with just Swift. Knew Draining Kiss too.

Feels unable to use Psycho :charmeleon:. Levels so quickly because of trade-boosted experience. Fought once or twice this update.

Entered the trial area with everyone at level 24. Attempted to one-shot Lurantis :lurantis: with an overleveled Torracat before. Withstood it with plenty of health left. Ought to have the pieces for a one-shot this time.

Plan: Glare Lurantis :lurantis:. Thunder Fang Trumbeak :trumbeak:. Switch to Apple Kid :vulpix:. Switch to Psycho :charmeleon:. Sun + Solar Power + Z-Fire Pledge. Win.

Round 1: :lurantis: X-Scissor (59/79) / :druddigon: Glare
(Leftovers heal to 63/79. New ally: Trumbeak :trumbeak:)
Round 2: :lurantis: X-Scissor (45/79) / :trumbeak: Supersonic / :druddigon: Thunder Fang (critical, 100% at :trumbeak::faintedazurill:)
(Leftovers heal to 49/79)
Round 3: :druddigon: Switch :vulpix: (Drought) / :lurantis: X-Scissor (36/52)
(Leftovers heal to 39/52)
Round 4: :vulpix: Switch :charmeleon: / :lurantis: X-Scissor (52/64)
(Solar Power damage to 44/64)
Round 5: :charmeleon: Z-Fire Pledge (100%)

Another level for Psycho :charmeleon: from the battle. Did not appreciate that confusion. Worked out, though. Wishes to calculate damage after the fact. Does not know Lurantis's stat spread. Will look at the nastiest possible.

Rash Solar Power Charmeleon with 31 Special Attack Individual Values and 0 Effort Values versus Lurantis with +Special Defense nature, 31 Individual Values everywhere, and 252 Effort Values in Hitpoints and Special Defense. Both level 24. Sun active.
Fire Pledge: 82.2-100%
Z-Fire Pledge: 162.2-193.3%

Definitely roasted it. Matched the reputation of Multi Bottle Rockets.

...Wait. Does anything learn Smart Strike? No. Knew about it being rare to learn. Held out for Chomposaur :druddigon:.

Touched the Sound Stone to their forehead.

Ends this update. Shipped off Chomposaur :druddigon: for 25 sessions of Attack training at Level 2 Isle Evelup. Foresees Olivia being more challenging. Thank you for reading. Farewell for now.

One Negative and two full randoms. Dodged Negative for the most part until now. Comes at an interesting time, given a glaring team weakness versus Rock. Thank you for all the reactions, per usual. Spices things up by not knowing what people will choose.

Oh, right. Before that, welcome back Chomposaur :druddigon:. Sports 65 Attack now. Gained two Attack from training. (Sidenote: At Isle Abeens right now: Litten, Rockruff, Skelpion :skorupi:, Alolan Rattata, Yungoos x2, Pikipek x3, Spinarak x3, and Caterpie x5.)

Opts for the Negative first. Hopes to not see the No Evolution card. Needs No. 3 :diglett: to be a Dugtrio badly (and to still be in the party). Moved No. 3 from the second position to third. Seems to get 2 a lot when choosing random Pokemon.

Random Negative number: 34. (32-35) Offense Down: Lower this trial's level limit by 1. Ignore this card and redraw if this puts any Pokemon above the level limit.
Evolves at 26 (the new level limit). Still okay.

Random number: 71. (70-72) Sudden Guts Pill: Add 2 hearts to a random Pokemon in Pokemon Refresh. Add only 1 for any Pokemon hatched from Olivia onward.
Meant to power this up to 3 hearts and 2 hearts. Never did. Stands a low chance of getting anything more than boosted experience on pre-Olivia Pokemon.
Random Pokemon: 1. Li'l Ghost :shuppet:
Enjoys being petted anywhere. Only made it to 1 heart for now. Will continue this as able.

Random number: 19. (19-23) Solidified: Cannot switch Pokemon until the end of the next trial.
Prepare for a lot more deaths.

Kept the Dugtrio dream alive, at least. May be the first update without training at the start, also.

"Then you must be having a grand time with Festival Plaza, right?" Really pushes you to try (and love) certain features.

Technically passed the point in the game with No. 3's :diglett: namesake. Wants to smash four Digletts :alolandiglett: before leaving, though.
Diglett kill #1: Apple Kid :vulpix:

Picked up a Fire Stone. (Could have bought one in Konikoni City anyways.) Hm. Eyes Flamethrower at 36. Knows Heat Wave already. Hits all enemies at +5 power, but -10 accuracy. Dislikes sub 100% accuracy.
Option 1: Wait until after Mimikyu for Flamethrower.
Option 2: Evolve now and grab Flamethrower after Hapu.

Accepts waiting on Flamethrower for stats now. May retire before then anyways. Evolved :vulpix:Apple Kid:ninetales:. Catapulted them to highest Speed (63) and Special Defense (60).

Recorded this for the rematch.
Round 1: :ninetales: Extrasensory (90%) / :roggenrola: Headbutt (58/69)
(Leftovers heal to 62/69)
Round 2: :ninetales: Extrasensory (the rest)
(Level up. Leftovers heal to 69/72)
Round 3: :mudbray: Bide / :ninetales: Heat Wave (100%)

Where are the Digletts in Diglett's Tunnel? Found oodles of Zubats. 70% Zubats and 30% Digletts, apparently. Explains the seven straight Zubats (approximately).

Stole a Nugget from a crate. Must be the buried gold in this mine.

Diglett kills #2, 3, and 4: No. 3 :diglett:. Feels satisfied now.

On a sign: "Route 9 Police Station. "Don't fight! Don't meet anyone's eyes!" Immediately fought a police officer. Did not appreciate the 42 damage (of 48 hitpoints) Flame Wheel on No. 3 :diglett:.

Bulk Up, Venoshock, Double Team, Low Sweep, Shadow Claw, and Dragon Tail at the Technical Machine shop. Cannot buy any, as mentioned in prior updates. Likes knowing what is here.

Recovered from all the Pokeball purchases. Bought Navy Blue Capri Pants, Navy Blue Sporty Sneakers, White Knee Socks, Black Messenger Bag, and Navy Blue Sea-Star Headband. Ditched the default hairstyle and color. Random numbers: 5 (Romantic Tuck), 2 (Straight), and 5 (Caramel Blond). Hm. Sort of dislikes the blue now. Will wait for an Other card to change it (for now).

Gave the Eviolite to Psycho :charmeleon:. Cannot really fix No. 3's :diglett: problems with it.

Recorded because of scary Eeveelutions.
Round 1: :diglett: Bulldoze (15%) / :umbreon: Confuse Ray
Round 2: :diglett: Hit itself (28/48) / :umbreon: Feint Attack (the rest :faintedazurill:)
Round 3: :chomposaur: Dragon Rage (55%) / :umbreon: Confuse Ray
Round 4: :umbreon: Quick Attack (73/79) / :druddigon: Hit itself (62/79)
(Leftovers heal to 66/79)
Round 5: :umbreon: Quick Attack (60/79) / :druddigon: Dragon Rage (the rest)

Poor No. 3 :diglett:. Demolished itself for 5/12 of its health.

Two hearts for Li'l Ghost :shuppet:. Totally needed faster experience gains (no, not really).

Met Team Skull again. Wanted to steal a Slowpoke to get rich. How much do they seriously sell for?

Sighs. Came upon the Leech Life Technical Machine. No users. Same for Grass Knot, by the way.

Lost No. 3 :diglett: again to a critical Vital Throw :hariyama:. Started the fight with Chomposaur :druddigon:. Switched due to Whirlwind. Lives a tough life.

Took on Plumeria with everyone at 25.
Round 1: :golbat: Air Cutter (28/50) / :diglett: Rock Tomb (45%)
Round 2: :diglett: Rock Tomb (45%) / :golbat: Confuse Ray
Round 3: :diglett: Hit itself (7/50) / :golbat: Air Cutter (the rest :faintedazurill:)
Round 4: :charmeleon: Fire Pledge (the rest)
Round 5: :salandit: Poison Gas / :charmeleon: Hidden Power (75%)
(Poison damage to 58/66.)
Round 6: :salandit: Flame Burst (49/66) / :charmeleon: Hidden Power (the rest)

A tough, tough life. Brought Psycho :charmeleon: to the level limit on that one fight, also. No Experience Share at all. (Hit 25 during the Lurantis fight.)

Oh wow. Got predicted by a Staryu. Used Camouflage to become a Grass type. Ate the incoming Thunder Fang quite well.

One-shot by Hyper Fang :alolanraticate:. Not even a critical. Marks No. 3's :diglett: fourth death this update. Evolve faster. Switched the Eviolite to No. 3 :diglett:.

+0 Defense on level 26. Finally :diglett:evolved:dugtrio:. Upstaged Apple Kid's :ninetales: 69 Speed with 77. Remains the lowest hitpoints in the group at 64. Beat Li'l Ghost's Defense by 1 (33 versus 32). Reequiped the Expert Belt, also.

Challenged Olivia with everyone at 26. Cannot think of any analogous bosses in Earthbound. Ventures to the fifth (and sixth) Sanctuary spot shortly after the fourth. Might be able to skip it for a while. Opens up options. Argues the closest boss to be the Guardian General in the Pyramids. Looks identical to the Petrified Royal Guard (Royal Guard's :yamask: namesake) except purple. Falls quite easily, unlike Olivia (probably).

Round 1: :dugtrio: Bulldoze (50%) / :nosepass: Rock Slide (51/64)
Round 2: :dugtrio: Bulldoze (the rest)
Round 3: :dugtrio: Bulldoze (35%) / :boldore: Headbutt (critical, 7/64)
Round 4: :dugtrio: Reversal (45%) / :boldore: Headbutt (the rest :faintedazurill:)
Round 5: :druddigon: Dragon Rage (the rest)
Round 6: :lycanrocmidnight: Continental Crush (34/85) / :druddigon: Glare
(Leftovers heal to 39/85)
Round 7: :lycanrocmidnight: Full Heal / :druddigon: Dragon Rage (48%)
(Leftovers heal to 44/85)
Round 8: :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (17/85) / :druddigon: Glare
(Leftovers heal to 22/85)
Round 9: :druddigon: Super Potion (heal to 82/85) / :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (55/85)
(Leftovers heal to 60/85)
Round 10: :druddigon: Thunder Fang (30%) / :lycanrocmidnight: Rock Throw (30/85)
(Leftovers heal to 35/85)
Round 11: :druddigon: Dragon Rage (the rest)

Went about as expected. Figured No. 3 :dugtrio: would fall before the end. Pulled off a good Reversal, at least. Named this update after them, for those wondering. Rides the Sky Runner three times in Earthbound. Crashes twice. Arrives at your destination, regardless. Describes No. 3's :dugtrio: life this update.

Underestimated Lycanroc :lycanrocmidnight: a bit. Hit decently hard. Managed fine, regardless.

Expands the team size for the last time. Permits two hearts in Pokemon Refresh for all Pokemon hatched from here on out, including this one.
Random egg number: 23.

Monkonna the Mankey :mankey::pokeball:
Nature: Rash
Ability: Anger Point
Moves: Leer, Focus Energy, Night Slash, and Close Combat.

Named them after a monkey in the Monkey Caves. Progresses through by giving them items. Gives this particular monkey a Pizza. (Intended to name them Man K Man, another monkey in the caves. Happens to be a female Mankey, though.)

Who needs defense? Not this team. (Actually, sort of this team. Really badly.)

Loves being stroked just above the nose.

...Why is this team 4/6 Kanto?

Finishes off this update. Goes better for No. 3 :dugtrio: next time, hopefully. Thank you for reading and farewell.

Forgive me for not being familiar with post-gen 5 mechanics, but what do the hearts in Pokemon Refresh do again? Will you allow yourself to use those for every newly hatched Pokemon or only when the particular Wonder Card goes up?

Either way, seems like your challenge is going well up until now, even with the negative Wonder card you just received. However, your team doesn't appear particularly overpowered at this point, so I'll opt for a random card again. Keep it up!

  • 1 heart: Nothing
  • 2 hearts: 1.2 times normal experience
  • 3 hearts: Occasionally survives attacks at 1 hitpoint. May trigger multiple times per battle. (Named the card after this effect. Sometimes survives at 1 hitpoint depending on your Guts stats. Raises that stat a huge amount with the Sudden Guts Pill.)
  • 4 hearts: Occasionally avoids attacks. Occasionally removes status at the end of the turn.
  • 5 hearts: Increases critical hit chance
Gives every newly hatched Pokemon 2 hearts immediately from now on. No more than that, barring more Sudden Guts Pill cards. Note that the Sudden Guts Pill card only gives these Pokemon 1 additional heart in Pokemon Refresh.

Ah right, the only two hearts only increase the amount of experience received. I asked because I vaguely remembered some pretty powerful effects, but it seems those only appear from 3 hearts onward. Thanks for the explanation!

Since my uni life is slightly calming down i've been taking the time to play Earthbound on the 3ds virtual console so I'm starting to understand the references more. With my meager knowledge I'm surprised that you didn't go with BubbleMonkey for the Mankey's nickname, that being said I don't know what or who Monkonna is yet or how important they are.
Nonetheless! Its hard to get me genuinely excited to read a playthrough, so keep up the good work! I hope the cards dont screw you over too much!

Gave Bubble Monkey to Panpour :panpour:. Cannot technically learn Bubble or Bubble Beam. Treated it as close enough.
