:oricorio: One-Hundred Song Face Off: Version Eight :oricoriopompom:

Hello my lovely Marrilanders. Welcome to Version Eight of the One-Hundred Song Face Off. If you haven't played this game before, basically twenty members nominate some songs for the competition. I then randomize the songs, and then finally place them into twenty rounds of five songs each for you all to vote and share your opinions of each song. If a song wins, they move up to the semi-finals, finals, and they could eventually win the whole game.

Along with 19others submitting their own songs, I also placed five of my own nominations into the mix. If you recognize any of the songs I nominated, I owe you a bowl of delicious wasabi. So now that all that stuff is out of the way, it is time to tap our feet, and possibly sing our lungs out to our new set of one-hundred songs!

:oricoriopau: 100 Songs | 1 Winner :oricoriosensu:

:oricorio:✿ Rules of the Game ✿ :oricorio:

❖ All Marriland Rules apply
❖ New Rounds will start on [Tuesday] and [Friday]. What time? Depends on my schedule.
❖ Each round will consist of five songs for you to listen to, and you must rank them between 1-10. The songs with the highest average will be moved on to the next round.
❖ Wild Cards are determined based on their average score. The five songs with the highest average score but did not win their respective rounds would have a chance in the wild card.
❖ During the Semi-Finals, the Wild Card Round, and the Final round, you must rank the song using the following scoring system: -3, -1, 0, +1, +3. Each song gets only one of those scores. No making all the songs have +3's or -3's.
❖ Please be civil when posting your opinion of a certain song. You might hate the song and the person before you might enjoy it. People have their own tastes in music so don't be a jerk to other people for liking a certain genre. The point of the game is music appreciation.
❖ Judge the music itself. Not the music video or the quality of the video. Also please do give a reason on why you gave the song the score it did receive.

Time to begin the first round. Here are some things to keep in mind:

❖ You need to rate each song between 1-10. You may use decimals (5.5) if you like. You cannot give a song a score less than a one.
❖ Please provide a reason you gave a song that particular score. Make sure you base your opinions on the song itself.
❖ If you end up absolutely disliking a song, please do not be hateful. Saying that the song makes your ears bleed and that whoever nominated it has a trash taste in music is mean and we are all nice squid ya?
❖ Rounds will start on Tuesday and Friday depending on my schedule.

With that being said, let us start the first round~ ROUND TWO WILL START SOMETIME ON TUESDAY

My Thoughts:
Slipping - Cyroshell: 6/10 Eh nothing to complain here. Gives me some....Evanescence vibes I guess? It is nice sounding however, it just didn't really click with me if I were to be completely honest.
November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM: 8/10 This made my ears happy. Very groovy sounding. c:
Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack: 6/10 Was nice to listen to. Didn't knock my socks off.
breathin - Ariana Grande: 9.5/10 One of the major jams from sweetner and one of my favorite Ariana Grande songs in general. So ye. <3
All the Small Things - Blink 182: 8/10 Middle school me appreciates this song lots. I still enjoy it quite a bit!

6/10 | this has some rly pretty elements to it! the guitar in the back is my favorite part, very entrancing. the vocals aren't my cup of tea, but they aren't bad at all, they fit very well especially in the second half, overall they just felt a bit too uhhh,, downcast,, whiny? i don't really know how to put it but it kinda reminded me of my self-pitying younger years. still not a bad song tho, i did not dislike it!

November Has Come by Gorillaz ft MF DOOM
8.5/10 | love me some gorillaz. this song is rly good. has its own unique sound for sure, which gorillaz almost always pulls off amazingly. it's weird, it's kooky, and it still manages to be a really pleasant listen. used to have it on repeat often.

Everything is Alright by Motion City Soundtrack
3/10 | I don't like most songs like this i'm sorry! but i see the appeal. it's Quirky and Fun. but it gives off the "practicing with my high school band in mom's basement" vibes, if that makes sense, which has never rly been my thing. it sounds a bit like an opening theme for some coming-of-age show rather than something I would listen to for pleasure..

Breathin by Ariana Grande
9/10 | I recently took the time to listen thru Sweetener (finally), and it's a dam good album. this song is definitely up there as one of the best ones from it, too. say what you want about Ari she is talented as hell and makes some rly beautiful & catchy jams. still ain't my favorite by her (not even my favorite from the album), but it's still amazing and fun to listen to.

All the Small Things by Blink 182
3.5/10 | well, i never liked this song or blink-182. this singer's whiny yelly voice GRINDS ON ME ok. i do like some of their songs... (see: some stuff from neighborhoods, yeah i like blink-182 when they don't sound like blink-182 lmao) i'm sorry. also this song gives me very similar vibes to everything is alright, but at least it has the iconic factor. +.5 points lol.

Slipping - Cyroshell 10/10
This has a certain Lacuna Coil/Evanescense sound to it. Almost metal, but not the random noise kind.
I like the gradual build up on instruments, leading to the chorus having a lot of force to it. There’s something mesmerising about the vocals too. All in all, I can’t really find any fault with this.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM 2/10
I might be missing something, but I can’t make sense of the lyrics at all.
The chorus was nice, and the backing was okay, but the main rap vocals were not my thing at all. They just felt lacking compared to Gorillaz other rap parts.
IMO not one of Gorillaz best songs.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack 6/10
The singer sounded a bit strained, like they’re trying too hard to be Blink 182, and the vocals felt a little quiet and drowned out by the rest of the instruments at times, but the other instruments and tune were pretty cool.
It gives off a pre-breakup/reunion Fall Out Boy vibe, which is pretty cool. Overall, it wasn’t great, but it was above average, and it was catchy enough.

Breathin - Ariana Grande 7/10
The first verse felt like it was building up to something, then the first chorus fell flat.
The second chorus made up for it, finally bringing in the oomph that the song lacked beofore, and from that point on it was a pretty cool song, though the lyrics were rather repetitive.

All the Small Things - Blink 182 5/10
Oh, there’s actually a Blink 182 song in here. Shouldn’t have mentioned them earlier. :P
It might be because of how overplayed this song was, but I’m kinda indifferent towards it. Nothing really special about it, but nothing too bad either. The singer sounds almost off key at times, but it kinda works?

❖ Round One:
1 Slipping - Cryoshell
Very reminiscent of early 2000's pop rock which I'm super nostalgic for. Even still my fondness for its sound it is very derivative and overly produced. I probably couldn't distinguish it from similar sounding songs. 5/10

2 November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM
Doom shows off with a flurry of linguistically satisfying bars that ultimately make little sense besides the pure sound sex of their collection. Doom almost overpowers and makes the gorillas the feature, but the hook/production from Albarn keeps him at bay. A pleasurable listen but not a lot to it 7/10

3 Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
This seems to be a pretty well loved song from a genre I liked a lot in middle school. I really like it, kinda repetitive but I'm gonna replay a dozen or so times that it hardly matters. In really dig it, 7/10

4 breathin- Ariana Grande
I listen to the radio more than I ever have, so many popular artists I actively enjoy. Not grande, what a plastic ****ing phony. Overly affected vocals I just can't stand. Ariana Grande sings like Kylie Jenner looks. 4/10. Lotta money behind it but not worth the listen imo

5 All the Small Things - Blink 182
I always think of this song as the 90's transition to the 2000's, an anthem of a new pop-punk era. Like most anthems I'm guilted into liking it more than I actually enjoy it. 5/10

Slipping by Cryoshell
5/10
- I like the guitar loop coming in at the start, which is probably the most characteristic feature of the song. It actually complements the heavier instruments pretty well, which gives the song a pleasant sound. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals, although I will say they fit the rest of the song. While I would say it's a decent song overall, it doesn't particularly stand out, hence the average rating.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM
7/10 -
I'm really digging the smooth, groovy sound of this song. It comes across as very well-produced too. The lyrics seem like they were carefully crafted, but I can't make much sense of them, which doesn't have to be the worst thing, but which I always find a bit disappointing. Still, even if I don't really get the lyrics, the sound of this song makes it a really solid listen overall.

Everything Is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
7/10 -
I really like the sound of this song. Both the vocals and the instruments give off a very energetic, positive vibe and just listening to it makes me kinda cheerful. The song may be kinda repetitive, but it's pretty catchy too and makes for a good song overall, in my opinion.

breathin - Ariana Grande
4.5/10 -
Overall, I'm not a fan of Ariana's style of singing. It's too affected for my taste and kinda 'breathy' (for lack of a better word) from time to time. I think she's a little overrated, although I can see the appeal she may have to other people.
While I don't tend to like her music that much overall, this is one of the better songs I've heard of her. The song is pretty catchy and seems well-produced as well. Even though it's not my taste, I'll say it's a decent song overall.

All the Small Things - Blink 182
2/10 -
I can't really put my finger on why, but this song doesn't do it for me. I don't really like either the instrumentals or the vocals. Normally, I'm willing to give songs a second listen if I don't like them at first, but in this case, I just kinda don't want to.

Slipping-Cryoshell: 5/10. It's a decent song, but just sounds like a song you'd hear on the sound track of a generic sci-fi or action movie. It's just average. The lyrics, the singer, and the backing are all very average.
November has Come-Gorillaz ft MF DOOM: 9/10. I'm not usually a fan of rap, but this is really good. It has a funky beat, the rap is downright fantastic, and the Gorillaz compliment the rap really well. Love this.
Everything is Alright-Motion City Soundtrack 5.5/10. So this song came out in 2005. About 5 years too late. This song is drenched in 90s. The singer is trying to emulate the sound of those bands, and he doesn't feel entirely comfortable doing it. He seems like he's struggling at times. It's fun, quirky, and silly, but it's just a 90s song that came out far past it's expiration date.
Breathin-Arianna Grande 8/10. The more I hear from Grande, the more I honestly love her stuff. She has a fantastic voice, and I'm glad she's doing songs that compliment her voice. She has a smooth voice when she needs it, and can belt it out when she needs to too. This song does compliment her voice decently, but she doesn't have very many chances to just belt out, and that takes a bit away from the song. I'm listening for big moments in songs like this, and that moment just doesn't come. She sounds like she's being reserved at times when she could belt it out.
All the Small Things-Blink 182. 7.5/10. Oh hey, Blink 182, I was just talking about bands like you. This is the pure 90s cheese I was talking about earlier. Angsty, whiny, and silly. It's a time capsule to everything 90s "punk" bands were. I kind of have to love this, growing up in the 90s. It's not the best Blink 182 has to offer, but I still really like it. I don't remember if it was ever in a Tony Hawk game, but it sure as hell fits.

Man I don't know about this song. It started off in that really got me into it, but then as it kept progressing further I disliked it more and more, probably the vocals not working with the tune and I feel like the music and vocals were conflicting! Like as if the singer wasn't singing to the same music we were hearing.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM: 6/10
I don't really like them much in general...lol, like this is not the type of music I listen to at all so I'm just bleh. It definitely has an interesting sound to it and I can see the appeal, just not my thing, nothing wrong with the song itself

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack:
7.5/10
Okay I'm really stupid. I can't help liking songs like this for some reason!! The upbeat sounds really pushed me through the most of it even though this definitely SOUNDS like a song that's aged. The vocals and the music blended together well and it was fun to listen to! But I can't justify making this any higher lol

breathin - Ariana Grande: 7/10
I. have. heard. this. song. too. many. times. My sister plays Ariana Grande way more than I'd like and it's honestly pretty grating after a while lol, but I'll admit I like this specific song a bit. I honestly am not a fan of her vocals though, but they worked well with the music so I could tolerate it, but covers of this song are way more fun to listen to imo

All the Small Things - Blink 182: 3/10
Am I just too young to be a fan of this one? I think the music really veiled the vocals and I was struggling to understand anything and the music was kind of obnoxious lol.

Slipping - Cryoshell - 6/10
I liked the instrumentals a good bit, but I felt like the vocals could have been stronger in the choruses.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM - 4/10
I didn’t dislike it, but it didn’t click with me.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack - 6/10
It’s k. Everything is alright amirite?

breathin- Ariana Grande - 8/10
Overall a solid song. Not much else to say.

All the Small Things - Blink 182 - 7.5/10
I decently enjoy this, though I don’t go out of my way to listen to it.

I'm going to be ranking stuff a bit differently this time than I have in the past. Rather than giving a bunch of **** ratings between 6 and 8, I'm going to be grading stuff on a scale more exponential. Here are the rough notes on the scale if any of you would like to use it:
0 - Complete Garbage (Why was this made?)
1 - Pretty Bad (Still has some redeeming qualities.)
2 - Guilty Pleasure (I know it's bad, but I like it.)
3 - Below Average (I don't like it, but it doesn't offend me.)
4 - Average (I'm pretty apathetic towards this.)
5 - Above Average (I'll listen to this on the radio if it comes on.)
6 - Good (I may ask what the song was and who made it.)
7 - Pretty Good (I'll put this on my playlist.)
8 - Great (Not quite something I'll put on repeat, but definitely more than playlist filler.)
9 - Fantastic (I'll listen to this on repeat.)
10 - Banger (This song is just a jam. Absolutely love it.)

Slipping - Cyroshell: 5.5/10
This song kinda reminds me of Hearts Burst Into Fire by Bullet For My Valentine or I guess any Bullet For My Valentine song, but without as much explosiveness Tear's Don't Fall has. I just kept expecting the song to kick into a higher gear even though it really doesn't have to.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM: 10/10
I just am a giant fan of both MF DOOM and Gorillaz so this mashup is a bit of a dream to me. I love the vibe this song has and I love the message that MF DOOM has in the song. Overall, one of my personal favorites.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack: 8/10
Sounds like if Owl City (The Tip of The Iceberg-like feeling) got into Pop Punk to talk about his anxiety issues. I dig it.

breathin - Ariana Grande: 4/10
It sounds fine, but I'm just not a huge fan of Ariana. The hook and bridge also does nothing for me when I feel like it kinda should. The song overall kinda feels like it's taking a jog and is pretty generic. It sounds nice though.

All the Small Things - Blink 182: 7/10
I am... fine with Blink-182. My opinion on them changes every once in a while, but right now I feel more apathetic towards them. Even if I were feeling higher on them, I wouldn't give them that much of a higher score as I like many of their other songs more.

Cryoshell - Slipping: 7/10
I like the lyrics, and the instrumentals are good. It feels like a relatable song and like something I'd listen to if I needed a pick me up.

Gorillaz ft. MFDOOM - November Has Come: 3/10
Not really feeling it, but the instrumentals have a nice beat to them. I liked the chorus, but I'm not really feeling the rest of the song.

Motion City Soundtrack - Everything is Alright: 5/10
This song feels relatable, but it's not really something I feel like I'd listen to a lot. Maybe if this was middle/high school me replying to this, I'd enjoy it a lot more, but current me isn't really feeling it. It feels a little bit like one of those songs that if I listened to it a lot more, I'd maybe like it more, but I dunno.

Ariana Grande - breathin: 9/10
I feel like I've heard this song on the radio before, and I just didn't have a name to a song until now. I feel like I haven't really appreciated this song enough, especially the other times I've heard it, but I actually really like it. I liked it the other times too, before I had a name to a song, but I think this just gave me a newfound appreciation for it.

Blink-182 - All the Small Things: 2/10
I feel like I've heard this song on the radio before too because it sounds very familiar. The song itself is okay though, I'm not really feeling it. Thinking about it, if this was something I'd been hearing on the radio, I feel like it'd be something I'd have skipped over after listening to it for a minute.

Slipping - Cryoshell: 3/10
The instrumentals has me interested but the song itself feel flat for me. Kind of a boring song that I wouldn't come back to listen to again.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM: 6/10
I like Gorillaz's sound but this song doesn't really do it for me. The verses were just kind of okay and the chorus lost my interest.

Everything Is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack: 9/10
It's definitely my fiancée's influence but I love Pop Punk music and this song isn't an exception. I love catchy, up tempo songs.

Breathin - Ariana Grande: 8/10
I love Ariana and this song is really catchy. Only thing I'm not really a fan of is the chorus though I'll still sing along to it. Definitely a solid song.

All The Small Things - Blink 182: 7/10
I love the instrumentals in this song. The verses are a little slower than you'd expect based on the instrumental. The chorus is solid as well. My main gripe with this song is the lead singer's voice. I also made the mistake of watching the music video. It's not good.

Let's go! Very excited to see this back again. Thank you for hosting, Kaity!

Slipping - Cryoshell: 9/10
A couple of the sounds in the background stuck out as chaotic and out of place to me, especially when the main melodies dropped off. But overall, a very solid start to this new version in my opinion. This is one of the styles of music I tend to like best.

November Has Come - Gorillaz and MF DOOM: 1/10
Really not a fan of this sound. Painful to me.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack: 8/10
There's two minutes of dead silence at the end of the track? That's not just me? Anyhow, I like how this gripped me right from the start. Up-tempo is generally good, and I like the singer's voice. However, I reckon I could only listen to this maybe three times max before it would start to get really annoying.

breathin - Ariana Grande: 4/10
I like the music here, and the overall sound is not bad. I'm just not a fan of Ariana Grande, never have been. She always sounds to me like...hmm...like she's trying way too hard? Difficult to explain. There's some timbre or quality in her voice that doesn't sit right with me.

All the Small Things - Blink 182: 6/10
And then there's this. In my eyes at least this song is kind of a meme now. I don't like a couple of the stylistic choices (those weird layered-voices bits come to mind) but I could still jam to this.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM 8/10: the rap fit this song amazingly well
Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack 6/10: wasn't a fan of the vocals everything else was just ok
breathin - Ariana Grande 9/10: rly good song vocals are amazing
All the Small Things - Blink 182 8/10: Tom wasn't my favorite singer on this band but this is still a jam

Oh my god, somebody else remembers Cryoshell. I admittedly prefer their earlier stuff to this, but I still like this a lot, especially the singer's voice.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM: 6/10
Never thought I'd describe a Gorillaz song as "exactly okay", but here we are.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack: 7/10
Oh man, really appealing to High School Bones with this one. Neat, but nothing exceptional.

breathin - Ariana Grande: 5/10
Just not my thing.

All the Small Things - Blink 182: 6/10
This is the kind of thing that I wouldn't turn off if it came on the radio, but there's a lot of other things I'd rather be listening to.

Slipping - Cryoshell

5/10
- It isn't bad, but sounds like generic pop rock tbh.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM

6/10
- It's okay, I guess. I'm going to say it's interesting at least, but I'm not a fan of that type of music.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack

5/10
- Another generic pop rock song.

breathin- Ariana Grande

4/10
- I'm not really a pop music person, it's not really my thing.

All the Small Things - Blink 182

5/10
- Pretty much your typical early 2000s pop punk song.

The song itself sounded like it didn't have much energy and it didn't click with me. It actually sort of brought my energy down. But the intro and outro had a very calming and pleasant sound to it.

November Has Come - Gorillaz ft. MF DOOM
5/10
It's all right. Didn't feel much about the rapped parts but the sung parts were nice.

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
5.5/10
Groovy. Smooth rhythm, yeah? But nothing special.

breathin - Ariana Grande
5/10
It was pretty avarage. Nothing bad but also nothing that really catches my attention.

All the Small Things - Blink 182
6.5/10
I liked it. I wouldn't go searching for this song again, but the rhythm was catchy and the lyrics were interesting enough to somewhat pay attention to, except for the last part where I couldn't really tell the lyrics apart because they sounded jumbled.
