The sun had set by the time they approached Rubie City. Bulbos had grown tired and opted to return to his Poké Ball two hours ago; Hansen had no such luxury and began to understand why so many trainers invested in bicycles.
He barely had time to sigh a breath of relief when the two eggs began glowing.
Hansen quickly backed around the corner, staying close to one side of the street and away from any lights. "Do you know who those people are?" he quietly whispered to Jesus, his body on high alert but his voice still steady.
The Litten perked up as well, twisting his head towards the nearest unidentified source of noise.
Hansen let out an exhausted sigh and slumped against the wall of a building, closing his eyes to allow himself a brief moment of respite. When he opened them a few seconds later, he looked at the Litten, then the direction of the Pokémon Center, and then finally the way they came from.
"If the entire city's been taken over, then it's likely that the Pokémon Center and gym have fallen. We can camp out in Mt Bronz and return to Sivil City at daybreak."
Hansen did a quick survey of the surrounding area before nodding his head in agreement. "This'll do."
He placed the Litten down and began unravelling his sleeping bag. With all that happened today, sleep was off the table, but at least he would be able to lie down and rest for a bit. "What do you think those people were doing?" he asked aloud.
Hansen finished setting up his sleeping bag and finally laid down for the day. The Litten watched him before curling up elsewhere. Hansen was surprised that the two newly-hatched Pokémon were so well-behaved despite not having eaten anything yet.
