I was able to get the games at 0800 AWST and am currently on my way to the 1st gym (had a bit of a nap).

My team currently consists of...
Lv. 16 Drizzile
Lv. 12 Pancham
Lv. 13 Nickit
Lv. 12 Meowth
Lv. 14 Rookidee
Lv. 11 Skwovet

My favourite new Pokémon is definitely Nickit. Despite all the hate the game got before release, it really is a very good looking game and I'm loving it currently.

I've been having a blast with these games.

I haven't made much progress into the actual story but I've done a lot of exploring, catching and participating in max raid battles. The latter are a great way to stock up on TRs early on!

My current team (all lv. 13-14):

These games have been a blast so far! The music in particular has been a highlight.

I’m on route 3 with all my Pokémon at level 12-15. My team has Scorbunny, Yamper, Wooloo, and that dark type fox Pokémon (I cant remember it’s name).

These games are so much fun! When I entered that first Wild Area I was getting straight Hyrule Field vibes, I loved it.
I probably spent a good handful of hours just running around the fields, doing the max raids, picking berries, trying to fight the "super strong-looking" Pokemon (and learning you can't capture any :upsidedownazurill:), and LOVING the camp feature. I also totally "splurged" on the free trial for Switch membership to go online and I'm probs not even gonna cancel.

I finally stopped for the night right before the first Gym leader/Gym town - Turffield?

I'm really debating whether or not if I wanna make a full Galar team. If I'm being honest, none of the designs are really wow-ing me (tbh, it's been that way for the past few gens rip). I don't think I've even had a full team of Region-only since maybe Black and possibly X-ish. The selection early game for creating a team is so amazing though, there's a crazy amount of choices. I'm having fun just kinda mixing and matching for now as I come across Pokemon. I think if anything I'll shoot for half Galarian/half whatever.
I think if I do go full Galar - Inteleon, Corviknight, Runerigus, Flapple, Toxtricity, Centiskorch. Although I do wanna try to procure a Galarian Ponyta too. :< so many choices
Axew, lv.20 - I was hype when I got Axew in one of my Max Raid Battles - he's been soooo good, so good it almost feels steamroll-y lul. I think I might swap him around for a Flapple when I get the chance - but his False Swipe/move set in general is so nice right now.
Yamper, lv.20 - I just kinda caught her and she's in my team. I might keep her around just to evolve into Boltund then try and swap for Toxtricity for the Galar team.
Mudbray, lv.21 - I dunno why I'm using mud horse, but I am and he's pretty lit. Not sure who would replace him in a full Galar team.
Eevee, lv.20 - I love Eevee and she's honestly a tank during Raid battles and in general, but her damage is starting to fall off and I'm not sure if I plan on using an Eeveelution in my playthrough. Maybe Sylveon or Leafon (cause Leafeon my fav), but if I can acquire a Galarian Ponyta - I might fill her in here.
Drizzile, lv.21 - my main boi
Vulpix, lv.12 - Just swapped her in from my Thievul (lv. 20), a fox for a fox. I don't really know what I'm gonna do for a Fire-type or if I'm gonna have one. I might consider using the Fire-Bug type if I go for a full Galar team. I kinda loved Thievul's design, but maybe I just didn't play with him enough to really enjoy the Gen 7 fox.

Beat second gym in one day.

Team is:

Hot Buns the Raboot
Chewbert the Dreadnaw
Snapple the Applin (yet to use as it is like Magikarp, useless til evolution)
Zip the Toxel
And Lance the Corvisquire.

Loving the games so far. Only complaints are a small bit of lag in wild area when loading trainers and I haven't had a major challenge yet. A couple annoying NPC trainers but it is maybe because I just have great type coverage. Plus Eldegloss gets an honourable mention as I used it for the water gym just for beating it quickly.

On my way to the fourth gym at the moment.

I currently have:
Eldegloss lv.28
Carkol lv.29
Thievul lv.29
Boltund lv.29
Corvisquire lv.28
Drizzile lv.29

I'm enjoying the game so far but I'm still annoyed about Dexit so I hope they add the pokemon back in updates ... yeah like that will happen we'll probably get Pokemon Full Sword and Full Shield with all the Pokemon for £60 no other changes made

I just cleared route 5 and am still loving the game. I've definitely been spending more time on catching and raid battles than the actual story though. ^^;;

Right now my team's looking like this:

Mochi the Raboot (Lv. 25) - Male - Rash nature

Buttercup the Eldegoss (Lv. 24) - Female - Bold nature

Gumdrop the Drednaw (Lv. 24) - Male - Naughty nature

Chantilly the Alcremie (Lv. 24) - Female - Modest nature

Midnight the Corvisquire (Lv. 25) - Male - Hasty nature

Blitz the Bolthund (Lv. 25) - Male - Adamant nature

I have a Toxel and an Applin in the PC which will eventually replace Eldgeoss and Bolthund but they need training.

Right now I am at the Galar Mine in Pokemon Sword (I do work ft and have a life so my progress may not be as far as others)

My current team is :

Chewtle M lv 16 (I do not give nicknames unless I am nuzlocking)
Gossifleur M lv 17
Nickit M lv 17
Yamper M lv 17
Raboot M lv 17
Rookidee F lv 17

This is not my final team but so far so good. Loving the game so far and can't wait until I get Shield at a later date. I also love that you do not have to go through the how to catch a pokemon tutorial as long as you have more than one Pokemon with you.

Okay so I've been having fun with this game. The whole gym challenge with the stadium set up really hypes me up, so I'm being propelled to finish the story. Still have not gotten a badge yet

Currently my team is looking like:

Mandibillia the Chewtle - Lvl 16, Female
Sparky the Yamer - Lvl 17, Female
Aphid the Dottler - Lvl 16, Male
Floruna the Gossifleur -Lvl 17 Female
Baleria the Nickit - Lvl 17, female

I just cleared route 5 and am still loving the game. I've definitely been spending more time on catching and raid battles than the actual story though. ^^;;

Let me tell you all the story of a brave little lv. 35 Polteageist who took down a lv. 60 Barbaracle in the Wild Area all on his own.

It was an unfortunate encounter which seemed impossible to defeat. The Barbaracle went for a powerful STAB Stone Edge, but Polteageist skillfully dodged the attack.

His nimble movements threw the opponent off guard as Barbaracle went for CROSS CHOP against a Ghost type. Hah. The idiot.

However, he soon regained his fighting spirit and went for Shell Smash. While my Mega Drain would do more damage now, a Stone Edge or water type attack would send my poor Polteageist to another dimension if it hit now.

As by wonder, the AI went for another Shell Smash as my Polteageist finished off the Barbaracle with Mega Drain.

And this is why Barbaracle is the worst Pokemon ever created.

The End.

Joined the ranks of Switch and Pokemon Sword owners. Avoided spoilers fairly well, based on the number of unfamiliar faces. Will confine thoughts to spoilers, for those doing the same. Wrote a lot, also, despite being after the fact.
Chose Sobble :sobble:. Refuses to be burned by a fire starter :incineroar: until given hope otherwise. Bet on the head fin (and not caring for Grookey :grookey:). Modest nature. Looks excellent for their stat spread.

First impression: Lurches forward quickly from very slight stick movement. Could just be the new controller. Shrugs.

Caught Rookidee :rookidee:. Remembers Corviknight :corviknight: from the trailer. Wanted that.

Lonely nature for Rookidee :rookidee:. Loses to Sobble :sobble: in almost every stat. Barely edged out Sobble :sobble: in Attack, despite having a beneficial nature over their negative nature. Screams Moxie later, between Power Trip and their Pokedex entry. Noted their pure Flying type eventually too. About time.

Passed on the good-looking fox for three reasons: 1. Should not fill up on team members on the first Route. 2. May share a Dark type with Rookidee :rookidee: later. 3. Expects them to be like Liepard :liepard:. Disappointed hard there.

Explored the Wild Area for a bit. Looks amazing for monotype runs. Definitely needs restrictions, though. Forked over ridiculous moves for level 10 Pokemon. Aura Sphere? Tri Attack? Potentially Earthquake with grinding? Acknowledges these to be one-use items. Remains no less crazy. (Might have had the foresight to prevent early evolutions from learning these. Cannot say for certain.)

Introduced the Wild Area too early, perhaps. Brings up the storm periodically to erase stat changes. Seems important to the plot. Maybe not.

Gladly accepts Wobbuffet :wobbuffet: for Max Raid computer friends. Pulled off Counter on Machop once. Lopped off half its health.

Added no new (permanent) team members from the Wild Area. Prefers a full team of new Pokemon (or new variants). Perhaps another playthrough, Hitmonchan :hitmonchan:.

Why does the game tease you with book stores? Wanted to enter. Could not.

...Oh. Expected to battle at the opening ceremony. Served to introduce gym leaders. Fine.

Deaths: 2. Happened while trying to catch a Corvisquire :corvisquire: one level higher (just in case of being wrong about Rookidee :rookidee:). Hits hard at +1 or 2. One-shot Rookidee :rookidee:. Cannot complain, due to rolling through trainers the exact same way.

Additional note: Figured out the whistle mechanic from Corvisquire. Told you about it earlier. Tried holding down the left stick. Simply moved down. Checked the Internet. Eventually found someone saying to press in the stick. (Forgives them for this. Did this to someone else in Smash Brothers. "Hold down B for the Final Smash.")

Snagged a Gossifleur :gossifleur:. Felt ambivalent towards it. Could use a grass type. Did not care for its evolution (known from a Direct) or its underwhelming assumed role (higher defenses, Rapid Spin, Sweet Scent, and Sing). Dug its own grave against a coal Pokemon. Missed with Razor Leaf four times at -1 accuracy. Whiffed another three times at -2. Off the official team.

Considered that coal Pokemon for a bit. Needs a ground type, however, not a rock type. Caught two anyways. Two Quiet natures. Never mind.

Stepped into Route 4, itching for a new team member. Discovered Galarian Meowth :galarianmeowth:. Is absolutely biased in favor of cat Pokemon. Looks a bit ragged. Somehow counts as Steel, though. Caught one to level in the background and maybe use.

Faced a Butterfree :butterfree: trainer on that route. Swapped in Galarian Meowth :galarianmeowth: for the experience pinata. Kept them in for the favorable type matchup. Scored three criticals in four Pay Days. Welcome to the team. Prays for a good evolution. Please be like Torracat :torracat: and not Alolan Persian :alolanpersian:.

Learned about what will probably become the ice cream Pokemon from a trainer. Spent a while searching for it. Looks...bad (for the main story). Came with the ability Sweet Veil, plus Aromatic Veil and Sweet Scent. Might as well be Galarian Spritzee :spritzee:. Respects them in doubles, but not here. May not remain on the team.

Cleared the first gym. Set up three Hone Claws on Corvisquire :corvisquire:. Opted to showboat and not Dynamax. Missed the one-shot on Dynamaxed Eldegoss :eldegoss:, as a result (only 90% of its health). Finished the fight without issue, regardless.

Worried about the gym mission being a minigame. Replaced the usual gym gimmick instead. Views that neutrally.

Edit: Dislikes Sobble's :sobble: first evolution, also. Added colors where they were not welcome.

Forgot some smaller bits yesterday.
  • Playing on Set. Provides a pleasant bump in challenge for casual playthroughs.
  • Stayed reasonably close in experience to enemy trainers thus far, despite taking detours. Fought Milo's level 20 Eldegoss :eldegoss: with Corvisquire :corvisquire: and Drizzile :drizzile: at 21. Prefers having control over the experience share, however.
  • Move Relearner: Placed them everywhere. Learned from Sun/Moon.
  • Hop: Less annoying than Hau. Harped about protecting smiles late, however.
  • Marnie: Expected them to be a lot stiffer. Comes across as casual with words like "goin'".
  • Mum: Grew accustomed to American English. Noticed the spelling immediately.
  • Clothing: Withholds judgment until seeing both genders. Seems okay for now.
  • Hair Salon: Copy/pasted Sun/Moon's. Added bits and bobs to disguise it. Approves of the hair preview, though.

Chose Sword for one reason: Farfetch'd :farfetchd:. Requested it to get something in Generation 8. Stunk since its inception. Buffed it over the years with excellent moves (Leaf Blade, Night Slash, Brave Bird, and First Impression), a good Hidden Ability (Defiant), a special item (Stick), and an Attack stat increase.

Made zero difference. Why? Its awful statline. Could not do anything with its best base stat (Attack) at 65 during X/Y. Increased it to 90 with Sun/Moon. Weighed in at 377 total base stat points then. Pushed it above Magby :magby: (365), but not renowned powerhouses like Sableye :sableye: (380 non-mega), Kricketune :kricketune: (384), and Onix :onix: (385).

Found that glorious bird on Route 5. Took quite a few balls to capture. Actually hit for damage during that time too. Welcome to the team. Thought it was supposed to be Fighting/Flying. Works out better this way.

Swapped unofficial team members around. Feels blasé about them. Took Toxel :toxel: from a breeder, most notably. Resisted electric. Made Weedle :weedle: look strong in terms of stats, though.

Traditional gym puzzle at the water gym. Returned to form quickly.

Led with Toxel :toxel: versus Nessa. Nuzzled and Growled their Goldeen :goldeen:. Switched to Corvisquire :corvisquire: to set up Hone Claws. Nearly went off the rails due to three Water Pulse confusions. Burned three items (two Super Potions and one Persim Berry) in the process. Only hit itself once, fortunately. (Risked it hard at the end with ~5 Hone Claws and three turns of confusion.) Secured the one-shot on Dynamax Drednaw :drednaw: with a Power Trip. Marks another Gym victory without Dynamax.

Entered Galar Mine #02 on the lookout. Must contain ground types, right? Yes...but not new ones. Gives Stunfisk :stunfisk: half credit with its new Mimickry ability.

Liked the Fire gym mission. Fought three battles against a trainer and a wild Pokemon. Awarded one point for defeating the wild Pokemon and two for capturing. Needed five points. Would have been more interesting with the other trainer attempting to catch it too, but oh well.

First critical capture against a Fire gym mission Vulpix :vulpix:. Broke out. Tossed another critical capture. Succeeded.

Stopped messing around this gym. Fielded Ninetales :ninetales:, Arcanine :arcanine:, and Centiskorch :centiskorch:. Handled the first two with Drizzile's :drizzile: Water Pulse -> Sucker Punch. Hung on at 4 hitpoints from Dynamax Centiskorch's :centiskorch: attack (not from full). Switched to Corvisquire :corvisquire:. Laid the beast low with 6 hitpoints remaining and in a Fire Spin. Still no Dynamax during a gym battle.

Specifically mentioned more Pokemon available in the Wild Area. Considered checking back anyways. Discovered a Leftovers and Impidimp :impidimp:. Evidently purchases the Surf TR (one-use TM) here too.

Remembered seeing something about Farfetch'd :galarianfarfetchd: evolving oddly. Looked it up. (Used Roggenrola :roggenrola: back in Black/White. Tries to avoid that situation now.) Saw "3 crits". Treated it like a hint. Three total or all in one battle? Shrugs. Counted crits all of today. Did nothing on the third. Returned to Serebii. Three in one battle.

Checked for Stick (now Leek). 50% drop chance on Galarian Farfetch'd :galarianfarfetchd:, up from 5% before. Okay then. Caught three to get a Leek. Bought the False Swipe Technical Machine. Cannot learn it. Of course.

Plan B: Just picked up a Focus Energy TR. Bought X Defends and X Special Defends. Picked fights with big Pokemon in the Wild Area. Landed three criticals on a similarly leveled Mudsdale :mudsdale:. Hit really hard for being at +6 defense, but whatever. Discovered that Focus Energy stays active for multiple attacks, also.

:galarianfarfetchd: Evolved :sirfetchd:. Grabbed First Impression from the move relearner. Kept the Leek on, despite no text indicating it still works.

More evolutions:
  • Meowth :galarianmeowth: to Perrserker :perrserker:. Became...a Skyrim Nord? Does not overly care for it. Feels unable to complain due to no radical change (unlike some :sobble: evolutions :drizzile:).
  • Toxel :toxel: to Toxtricity :toxtricity:. (Forgot which color.) Not bad, not good. Hates trying to spell it, though.

Called it after reaching Hammerlocke and flitting into shops. Currently around level 31.

Deaths this update:
  • Toxel :toxel: to a wild Drednaw :drednaw:. One-shot from full by Bite.
  • Corvisquire :corvisquire: to the Gym Mission Litwick :litwick:. Triggered Flame Body. Chose Hex that same turn.
  • Farfetch'd :galarianfarfetchd: to Wild Area trainer's Drizzile's :drizzile: rain-boosted Water Pulse. The only trainer death thus far. Survived it with 1 health from full on Corvisquire :corvisquire:.
  • At least one to a tough-looking Wild Area Pokemon. Remembers Toxtricity :toxtricity: to (another) wild Drednaw :drednaw:.

Other thoughts:
  • Commends Game Freak for the creative and somewhat logical evolutions. Who would think to do this naturally, though? Attach a sweet to Milcery :milcery: and spin for five seconds. Becomes Alcremie :alcremie:. What?
  • Where are the new ground types? Accepts something doofy at this point. (Saw several old ones, like Mudbray :mudbray: and Baltoy :baltoy:.)
  • Is...is Galarian Farfetch'd :galarianfarfetchd: actually decent? Did they finally do it this time? Held its own so far.
  • Fixed the TM situation in Sun/Moon. Received status (Will-o-Wisp and Thunder Wave) and mostly weaker attacks (Swift, Payback, Retaliate, Whirlpool, ...) so far.
  • What is going to happen to Drizzile :drizzile:? Learned Sucker Punch and U-turn this update. Is it going to become Bug? Dark? Something else? How bad is it going to look?
  • Why does the team know so many Dark moves? Knock Off on Sirfetch'd :sirfetchd:, Sucker Punch on Drizzile :drizzile:, Power Trip on Corvisquire :corvisquire:, and Payback on Perrserker :perrserker:.
  • Enjoys the game well enough so far. Compares it to Sun/Moon, but with less ugly tutorial. Feels like tons of available Pokemon too. Cannot recall any dragon-types, however, save for a trainer's Grass/Dragon Applin :applin:.

I beat the main story many weeks ago, and despite not playing very frequently, I am now working on both filling out the Pokédex and completing the ranks in the Battle Tower. So far, I’m Master Ball Tier in solos and Great Ball Tier in doubles.

My main strategy has been using the “Tough Team” rental party and I have not lost a single match yet so I will most likely stick with it lol. As far as the Pokédex goes, I’ve only caught 60 Pokemon so I’ve got a long way to go.

:rillaboom: :corviknight: :sandaconda::boltund: :coalossal: :zamazentahero:
That’s my postgame team. All of them are in the 70’s level wise. Other honorable team members that have since been boxed: :drednaw: :orbeetle: :grimmsnarl:
