Verdant Cavern Trial Update

Spoiler: What Happened

Well.. disaster is an understatement for the start of this game. I lost the Inkay I caught on Route 1 to Ilmas Smeargle. It sucks, but no big deal, right? Well, I went on to the trial, and proceeded to lose my Popplio, Abra, ghastly, Zorua, and Spearow to the Totem Raticate. I squeaked out of it with only my Buneary.. Great.. I did catch a Zubat on my way out of verdant Cavern, so there's that. We'll see if I can pull out anything from this disaster.

As someone who does her own nuzlocke in Ultra Sun, I gotta agree with that. You'll want to go for an extra mile by overleveling your team and stock up tons of medicines and/or berries.

Yeah.. I've actually finished a few USUM nuzlockes before. I think I over estimated my Popplio (who was 15). And he took a Crit off the bat, which put me in a bad spot.

Ultra Moon Attempt 2.. First Update/Verdant Cavern.

Spoiler: What Happened

I rolled a Popplio again as my starter for this run. After dredging through all of the intro dialogue I made it back to Verdant Cavern without any issues. I took on the Totem Raticate with Popplio once again.. This time I opened with 2 rotom boosts, and easily took it down. Overall, this run has started a million times better. Fingers crossed it continues.

Brooklet Hill Update

Spoiler: What Happened

Hey everyone! It’s been a while but I’m starting to continue my run through Ultra Moon! I finished up the Brooklet Hill Trial this morning, so here we go!
I lost a couple of Pokémon between my last update and here, but nothing game ending. Golbat easily won this trial for me. With an X Attack, eating a bubble, and then a Supersonic Skystrike, I one shotted the totem Araquanid. In addition my Golbat leveled up off of the kill, and now I’m rocking a nice new Crobat. On to the next!

I think I’m going to go for an Espeon. Since I lost my Kadabra early, I think it will be the best for my team. I love Sylveon, but no need since I have Brionne.

Espeon is my favorite, with Joltean 1a and Vaporeon 1b. Don't really like any of the other ones (although admittedly I've never used Leafeon and Glaceon)

This was another fairly easy win for me. I went in with Brionne, and opened with a Z water. Unfortunately the totem Marowak opened with detect so it was a bit of a wash and waste of my Z. I followed up with a Bubblebeam and Aqua Jet to finish it off, then took down the Salazzle.

Kahuna Olivia Update

I spent some time rebuilding with some new catches and leveling up after the Lush Jungle losses. I was lucky enough to get a Larvitar in Diglett cave(due in no small part to the fact I already had a Diglett and Zubat) and a Gastly in Memorial Hill. Kahuna Olivia was tough but thanks to some timely swap ins I managed to not take any losses and finish up the Island.

I was able to make some good catches and replenish my team after Kahuna Olivia. I did some leveling and training in Maile City on routes 10/11. The trial went smooth. I decided just to overpower the totem because of its defense boost. Despite having nothing super effective, Gengar tore through the totem for an easy win.

How would you rate the nuzloke difficulty in Gen 7 games as opposed to other games?

Hmm. That’s tough. I’ll try ranking them based on my experience playing through them all. (Easiest to hardest)

1. X - It wasn’t my lowest loss game, but I wasn’t focusing a ton on the play through. XY have always been the easiest for me to Nuzlocke.

2. Omega Ruby - This run through ended up being cake with only two losses for me. ORAS have also probably been the games I’ve played the most challenges on so that may have helped.

3. Platinum - This was my first DPP play through ever.. even normally, so I wasn’t too familiar with anything in it. Despite that, the run went decent for me.

4. Soul Silver - This was hard early on because the lack of decent Pokémon I found/had access to, and the sheer amount of grinding I had to do. After the first 6 or 7 badges though, the rest of the game was a breeze.

5. Ultra Moon - While these games may be some of the easiest for Normal play throughs, I have a healthy respect for them on a nuzlocke. So far this is the only game I’ve wiped on(albeit it was pretty early on). So many of the trainers have Pokémon that just mess you up out of nowhere. Not to mention some of the totem Pokémon will destroy your team, even if you’re prepared.

6. White 2 - This was definitely the most difficult for me. Between tough grinding, tough trainers left and right, not reusing TMs, and not much variety in what I was finding, White 2 was every bit of the challenge I hope for in a nuzlocke. It was only through sheer luck that I made it through this game on my first go. Definitely the hardest I’ve played.
