I think it's worse than that - imagine explaining to an alien that each day you went to a little blue screen* filled with words from other people. It doesn't physically exist bar a few electrons out there, somewhere, remembering all the 0s and 1s; it is all flat, and as you said if it did get wiped out by a solar flare, there would be no physical evidence of it existing.

Are Forums old enough that they're "retro" and coming back in style?

Sounds like a great idea for a general chat thread. You could turn it into a way to flex on us for all the experiences and memories us youngsters missed out on.
